Web page with contact information: http://www.portfoliorecovery.com/contact_us.html
BBB page with 1,308 complaints, a government action from the State of New York, and yet they get an A- rating? http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164
Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

File a complaint at the NY State AG's Office here: http://www.ag.ny.gov/ - Kenny replies to BigA| 7 repliesThey might have had 1,308 complaints but they probably had a millions and millions of debt collections. So 1,308 complaints is not even a speck of the volume they do.
- BigA replies to Kenny| 2 repliesYou must be one of the scumbag criminals about to lose their jobs because the CFPB has slapped this criminal enterprise.

- Pudge replies to KennyOh, Kenny, baby, so you're saying they've been intimidating, coercing and scaring people into giving them money and getting away with it? Wow! Glad to see you're willing to admit it. That's a step in the right direction. Before you know it, you'll have a conscience. Keep it up, baby. Stay in school.
- BigA replies to MJGYeah this must be the number he uses to steal money from innocent victims and he got upset because he missed getting the 50 cent commission on some of them due to their reading this thread.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

- Truth seeker| 9 repliesPeople know that you dont have to pay back the loan so they take it out with intentions of not paying. If you never worked as a collector then you shouldn't talk shyt aabout us having a real job. Because most of you people are scamming.
- Slim replies to Truth seeker| 8 replies>> People know that you dont have to pay back the loan so they take it out with intentions of not paying. <<
Um ...
That is a rather global and all-inclusive statement!
How about some proof of that statement. Prove that ANY regular poster in this forum has taken out a loan with intentions of not paying.
Are you afraid that our educating people in FDCPA rules might hurt your business? - Truth seeker replies to Slim| 7 repliesP.S. You cant prove that someone is not looking to pay this back unless you use the tactics that we use. Prove to me that this company is a scam. Did they send you documentation? Let me guess after words you asked for a statement? Let me guess afterwords you asked for a street address? Most of these companies would not provide that info due to people like you trying to get a lawsuit out of them. Just validate the debt, make sure that you get a receipt and a number you can call back thats not disconnected, a email and make your payment. Get a payment plan so that you know they have to work with you. People are so air headed i swear!!!
- You've got it all backwards... replies to Truth seeker....the debt collector is REQUIRED to mail that dunning letter within five days of their first call. The debt collector is REQUIRED to mail a debt validation letter showing that the alleged debtor owes them money - per the FDCPA! You scam debt collectors are so air headed I swear!
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - Slim replies to Truth seeker| 2 replies>> But dont slander their name <<
What name?
Tell us the full ID of the company, so we can investigate it.
We do not "slander" debt collectors who follow FDCPA rules!
and, you really should learn what "slander" really means.
Remember, the debt collector must prove they have legitimate right to the debt. The supposed debtor does not have to prove to every caller that they do not owe the money.
FDCPA, all over again.
(I wonder why Truth Seeker's inane post looks so much like the other "pay yer debts" posts throughout 800notes. Must be a real thrill for them to get responses!) - Gunnar replies to Truth seekerDesperate little bottom feeder aren't you? Yes, people have caught on to your scams. Not that it was hard. All we had to do was inform them of their rights. Then the ignorant fools, like you, who work for the fraudulent debt collectors did the rest. People like you are so easy to see through. You hem & haw. You avoid any talk of the laws that are in place to protect the consumer. You think the FDCPA is some kind of an escape hatch for debtors. It's NOT! It's there to protect the public from being RIPPED-OFF by scum who think that preying on the naïve is an actual job.
You say that "most of these companies" won't supply an address because of people "trying to get a lawsuit out of them." Good work there genius! You've just admitted that you hide because you know if you're found you'll be sued. Of course, we already knew that. You say "Just validate the debt..." Well pal, that's not the supposed debtors job. That's YOUR job! By law! Which you are required to do with a complete notice of validation sent BY MAIL! Which your shop of frauds won't send out because you don't hold title to any valid debt & trying to claim bogus debt via the mail might very well land your rumps in very hot water indeed. The morons that work for fraud-shops like to use e-mail. Don't you? Educated people know that an e-mail or fax. is absolutely worthless. They are proof of NOTHING!
Most people are not "air headed". Sadly, almost all of the people that work for fraudulent and/or bogus debt collectors definitely are!
Skeff Ett Liv!
Gunnar - MidNYteStorm replies to Truth seeker>>P.S. You cant prove that someone is not looking to pay this back unless you use the tactics that we use.<<
The irony is that you cannot prove that the numbers this company is calling are out of date.
I know for a fact that debt collectors call outdated numbers since I have received calls from debt collectors seeking people I never heard of. Thankfully that is all in the past.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
