- JenI believe it's yet another number for Portfolio Recovery, a collections agency.
- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
- jayseaeasttrash collectors....I mean, Portfolio Recovery!! I never pick up a call from area code 757 - it's always these scumbags. I have a mortgage and a car loan. I'm current on both and have NEVER had a bad debt.
- JoeJust got a call from this number and thanks to this review from here I was glad I did not pick up. They have been calling me everyday and not leave a message.
- Call type: Debt collector
- BoomerWells| 1 replyPortfolio Recovery.....scum of the earth. They call and call, and actually sent me a collections letter on one specific piece of old debt from 2001. It's long since been written off and I've paid taxes on the write off as income. Meantime, 14 years later, my credit score is in the mid 700's and I have a copy of my credit report and have nothing old, behind, or in collections. They prey on the weak and try and collect old debt that's long since been taken care of. Do not give in to them. The information they have was once accurate and that's how they have your information. In most cases, it's long past the timeframe that they can collect and it's been dealt with.

- Confused/AmusedThis is another number from Portfolio Recovery Services (Debt Collector)
They never leave a message and the one and only time I ever answered
the phone they asked for someone I dont even know. They have called my
phone over and over for the last 2 months with several different numbers.
I have only had this number for about 6 months, so whomever had this
number before me must be the owner of this debt they are trying to collect.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery Services

- ginny| 1 replyPortfolio...yet another new number. They seem to get a few new ones at a time. My cell doesn't have call blocking so I've made a contact that goes straight to voice mail. I add their #s each time a new one shows up (currently count is 17 lmao).

- dan| 3 repliesI've had one experience with those worthless thieves back in 2011. They hammered me night and day about an alleged medical bill that existed for an elderly woman in a nursing home in Iowa dating back to 1998. She had the same name as my wife and the nursing home filed a claim against our insurance based upon internet association of my wife's name. SSN, address, kin folks was of course all different. Naturally our insurance declined the claim, but that didn't stop PRA. I finally put a stop to it by contacting the Governor of Iowa. An assistant called me back and had it resolved in two hours. We lived in Texas. The patient was in her 80s. My wife in her 30s. Didn't mean jack to PRA. I hate them with my heart and soul, from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. The owners ought to be Tared and feathered and marched from town to town carrying signs reading "low life sewer Rats".
- BigA replies to ginnyYou need to send them a cease and desist letter by certified, return receipt US mail. Here is the information you need to do that:

BBB page with 1,320 complaints, a government action from the State of New York, and yet they get an A- rating? http://www.bbb.org/norfolk/business-reviews/d ... olk-va-51000164
Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- JW| 2 repliesOkay, answered the call finally because they KEEP calling and leaving NO messages. And they ask for my mom?? By her first and last name. First of all, I am not on a phone contract with my family at all so HOW DO THEY HAVE MY NUMBER? I said no this is not her and I don't live with her. She said ok can you give her my number. I said ok and who are you? Woman laughs for a good 15 seconds before saying her first and last name and hanging up. Um?? I HATE YOU.
- Alfalfa replies to JWIf they call again, let them know you are going to take them to court for intentionally harassing a non-debtor.
- new yorkNew York state attorney general sued these scum bags and got a lot of money out of them. If you live in N.Y. call and report them and get a complaint number and do the paper work.
- AnonGod I hate these motherf**king scumbags!! No matter how much you tell them to cease and desist, which is within my rights to do, they NEVER stop, in fact just recently they called me 5 times within ONE hour!! That's harrassment and illegal I do beleive but I dont think there is much I can do about it.
- Caller: portfolio recovery (d*ckbags)
- Call type: Debt collector
- Anon replies to JWThey deliberately searched your information, do you still share a last name with your mother? It sounds like you don't but that's the first step, other wise what they do is run searches to find anyone who might know the whereabouts of your mother since they're having trouble contacting her, a similar company did the same thing to my sister her friend was in debt and because they'd signed a lease together years prior they tracked my sister down and harassed her, it's totally rediculous! Report them to anyone who will listen! You have the right to your privacy and you are not the one the debt belongs to they have no right to ask you to have your mother contact them Or to bother you about her debt
- Jay| 1 replyWell what can I tell you? These guys (Portfolio Recovery) are genuine bottom feeders of debt collection industry. They buy old statute expired debt and through harassment tactics try to collect 10 to 30 cents on the dollar. Of course the minute anything is collected, the statute date resets to day 1 and their other outfits and ambulance chasers come after you. If you have noticed their letter of settlement is only for the debt with them, not original debtor or the next place they sell it to. The only way to fight these guys is to get with your state authorities. These guys know all the Federal loopholes.

- Olivia replies to 14-88| 1 replyI actually blocked them and once my "report" was registered, I got a voice msg. from a law firm saying they were filing a class action lawsuit against Portfolio Recovery and saw that I had filed a complaint against them. I didn't even know the number was registered to Portfolio Recovery, until the lady a the law firm told me. PF calls at all hours, even at 2:30 a.m. Good thing my ringer is on silent at that hour, I don't hear it ring. Am not sure if the law firm is a legitimate number or not....
- BigA replies to mildred primWhat they are doing by calling after 9 pm is illegal. There are several excellent posts in this thread telling you what you need to do and where to go to get information and make a complaints. Please read them.
