I received a call from this number and a guy who sounded Indian started to mention when I connect my Windows PC to the internet, I will get files loaded to my C: drive but I cut him off and before he said any more and told him antivirus software prevents anything getting to my PC and disconnected the call.  I could tell it was totally random calling as how would he know whether I have Windows PC or even use the internet?

I too get these fools calling several times a week, they say nothing then hang up. They are the same mob I'm sure that call in between calls from the 00 number, but the number comes up as private. I live in Victoria and for the life of me I don't get what their up to, it does make you suspicious, but it annoys the hell out of me also. I don't know who's paying their bill, but there must be some gain. I am on the 'Do not call Register' and I also have changed to Optus, in March? I would suggest they get a real job and maybe a life.

I had this number call twice today.  First time they hung up the second time they said they were Jenny from Microsoft and she was calling because they were getting messages saying I was downloading viruses from the internet.  SCAM!!! I asked if she had a contact number I could call her back on, which threw her a bit then she gave me 02 9037 2906.  But when I checked what number just called using *69 it said the last number that called was 0011976000.

I got a few of these calls just pretend to be doing as they say and grab a chair and hold your phone up to your smoke alarm and hit the test button ...That will slow them down they cant call anyone if they are deaf.

Jus' tell 'em to get stuffed. If they remain silent tell ' em to get naked on youtube. Thats one for the money and two for the show !

In Vic as well, got called by some guy. "david" or something. Somehow knew our names, asked him what he needed, and he said he was calling about government benefits. Told him, whoever wasn't home, so he said, i will call back. Seems pretty scammy.

Yeh, we have started getting calls from this number as well. It started 3 days ago, and has been happening every day now. They never say anything when we answer. They have been ring us on our 1300 business number. (I will need to check with our service provider as I hope this does not mean we are picking up the cost of the call).

I just hot a call from them 10 minutes ago & googled the number & all this came up. It was a lady with an Ametican accent & started saying something about accident insurance or benefits...didn't really give her the chance before I hung up!

I received a call this evening from this number 0011976000 and there was no reply when I said hello but after a few seconds it came back with a recorded voice saying Good bye

I live in Toowoomba Qld and just started receiving calls from this strange number.  Seeing the 0011 prefix, there is no way I am going to answer it yet alone respond or call them back.

Thought I would google it just to see, then I found this site.  Glad to see others have bothered to post too, it shows my paranoia is founded.  Not at the point where I think I can blame either the Chinese or Julia Gillard for the invasion of my privacy (yet).

Possibly some scammer verifying details. Sick of it. Telemarketing etc should be banned. Still have to wait 30 days for "do not call" to take effect so any one can still be hassled. Should be the other way around, if you want to be called go on a 'do call" register

I keep getting calls from 0011976000 iam with optus the person knew my first and last name they said they were from microsoft techincal support.

Got a call  today apparently for a none paid bill for my dead father for a contract to fix his computer....
Hes been dead for 3 years...

I am Australian and I am a telemarketer... I hope you realise that it is a real job and a struggling single mum is just trying to pay bills.... think next time about the aussie jobs you may be losing by your pigheaded thoughts...

Ive had this call a few times. Absolute ball busters hang up and save 5 minutes of your life.

This caller has called my number 6 times today, all within the last few hours from 4:29 pm till 7:19 pm. I'm in Victoria, Australia. I get about 2 calls an hour on average. For the benefit of the people on this forum, I'll answer the next call and record the conversation.

The call was from 7:54pm to 7:58pm. It was an Indian woman from "Solar Today" calling about the government giving a promotion for solar panels in my area. They knew my last name, which I also found very creepy. They probably got it from the telephone company I'm signed up on.

When I googled the company name, it came up with a legitimate website (http://solartoday.com.au/index.php). I successfully recorded the phone call for future reference. They wouldn't give out their number (which is common for companies) and insisted on calling back. Outsourcing the telemarketing people is pretty common for companies, so I guess that explains why I got an international number on my caller ID. Guess we'll see what happens when they call back.

I receive upto 5 calls a day on my mobile from this number, has been happening for weeks. I just set the mobile to block/reject the call. Problem solved. They can call it all they like now, and the phone just drops the call straight away. Have fun suckers!!

Yes people, you will not believe it. I too have been getting phone calls from this number. The only thing is, they have been calling my mobile number which is a silent number - work that out.

I have been doing some digging into finding out about this number, and you won't believe where it is from, Australia. Yes, it is from Australia, not any other country. How do I know, well, it came up with the prefix numbers = +61. So when you then see the number, it appears like this >> +6101976000.

Now, isn't this interesting to see.

I've been getting these calls for a few months now, & it really disrupts the household.  It is driving my wife crazy.
