It may not be Amazon but it is a rep for them. WIth out their call today, I would not have known my CC had been tried to be used for an Amazon purchase of Camera Equipment. I called my CC company immediately and was able to stop the purchase. Whomever had my info had also tried to make a purchase on another website today as well and that was also stopped. Even though this call may not come from Amazon, it tipped me off to unwanted activity on my card.

    Fraud!!
Was flagged by my credit card for a "card not present" order it always does, except this time I didn't make the order. It was listed as "Amazon.com". Except I had just purchased from amazon the week before and the display was completely different. I had them cancel the card promptly and within a few hours I began receiving calls from this number. They called 8 times without leaving a voicemail, which I took to mean "don't answer". Then on call 9 I get a voicemail from a man with a middle eastern accent saying "Hi my name is Sam and I am calling for amazon to verify your credit card for a purchase on Amazon today. Call back at 18772432913 and refer to ### transaction number."

I just had 3 calls from this number, none of which I answered.  They never left a voicemail.  Seeing as I don't have an amazon account, nor have I made any purchases from there I highly doubt that it is Amazon calling...

    WATCH OUT
I have 5 missed calls from this number today and when I checked by credit card online, there was a $10.00 test charge on there.  Watch out for these con artists!

Caller was from Woot (an Amazon co) and wanted to verify an order I had placed 10 minutes earlier.  If he spoke clear English and better identified himself it would not have raised any alarms.  Order was for $2k so I guess better safe than sorry, but I've place many orders there before and its being shipped to my billing address...

So I got two calls back to back. I didn't answer.  I have some big Amazon orders coming up so I got worried. I called it back and the recording was Amazon. A woman answered and said she was with Amazon. I told her about the calls and she said "unless I had a problem with an order I could disregard them".

I read all these comments and still wasn't sure. I called back. They were very friendly and never asked for private info. I checked my order with my email address. Everything was fine. This is Amazon. But she also assured me they would email if there were problems.

It should be added, I changed some info on my order last night and it's a big order. I bet they were just verifying. Not only do I not think this is a scam, I think it's a safety dept. within Amazon. That's why the average employee does know why they called.

Received voice mail from this # & then looked here before listening.  They called to verify some info regarding a large purchase I made yesterday on amazon.com.  They said they will call back soon.  Seems legit, but will have to wait to see what info they are trying to verify before I can know for sure.

So I received a follow up call/voicemail from an unusual # & I assume it was overseas.  They had information about my purchase yesterday & they were verifying it was legitimate to give me a chance to cancel the order in case it wasn't.  The call back # they left in that voice mail was to Amazon customer service.  So I called that # & they didn't really know that I had been called, but they said it wasn't unusual for there to be a call like this for a high $ purchase.  I gave them to OK for my order & the lady at Amazon said she'd let the proper people know that I called to verify & that my order would be completed shortly.

I understand other people think this has been a sham, but in my experience this was 100% legit & I even am glad they did this.  Even though my credit card wouldn't have held me liable for a fraudulent purchase, doing this saves Amazon & others time & $ by not even completing a fraudulent order.

I received two calls from this # and the first two times, I didn't pick up because I never pick up unknown calls. So I Googled it & found this site. I had placed a large order on Amazon the day before so to find out it might be Amazon calling wasn't that big of a surprise. However, I decided to call Amazon customer service first to confirm & the woman I spoke with said my order was "pending verification" because they wanted to make sure it wasn't a fraudulent purchase PLUS my shipping address was different from my billing. Lo and behold, five minutes after I had called, the 206 # called back. This time, I picked up & they basically just wanted to verify the shipping address & that I was the one who put the order through. My advice: if you're not sure, call Amazon first.

My credit card had a fraudulent purchase after the phone call.  And I gave this number to Amazon and it was verified that this number is NOT NOT NOT Amazon.  They are verifying pieces of info, connecting name to card and bam they make a charge.  They have access to Amazon's order numbers and this scam has even been using the same number for over a year as far as these comments illustrate.  This disgusts me.

Three call from this number today.  Did not answer because I don't recognize number.  After reading these posts glad that I didn't answer.  ...  Received an Amazon delivery today, but it was a gift.  Not sure if there was any connection to that.

Got a call, left a message, got 2 more calls in a row immediately after I didn't answer. Said they were with amazon and verifying a purchase. I called back - they were requesting information to 'verify' a purchase. This information would not be asked for by Amazon. They even asked me if I had an Amazon account. Didn't give them any info, immediately hung up. They called right back - I blocked the number.
Checked my credit card immediately. Two fraudulent charges pending from yesterday. One test charge for $1 for a Mexico based cab company, and an unknown $95 charge through Amazon marketplace payments. Called my credit card fraud department right away.
