- Scam Fighter| 1 replyGot a call from this number today. Identified on the phone as Amazon. Wife took the call as I was not home. The Amazon account is in my name with no reference to her. Caller asked for me but I wasn't home so she proceeded to quiz my wife for information. Wanted her to verify the last numbers of the credit card which she refused to do.Not being the cardholder she shouldn't even be asked that. The caller got into a bit of panic and insisited that this had to be done now. My wife stood her ground and said they would have to call back when I returned home. Theyu wouild not give a call back number.
When I returned home I immediately Googled the phone number and foind this site. I also checked my credit card info online and all appeared to be correct. As a precaution I called the credit card company to verify if any purchases had been attempted. They said not but as a precaution I cancelled the card and asked for a new one. I then contacted Amazon and was told that no fraudulent attempts had been made to purchase on my account. I also asked him to verify the phone number and was advised that the number is NOT an Amazon number. Interesting thing is that the scammer number was identified as Amazon on my phone but when Amazon actually called me the ID only said Washington which is typical of calls from the USA to Canada.
So after doing all that the scammer did actually call back. Tried the same trick with me. Wanted me to verify and she mentioned a @hotmail email address which I don't have and she said the last two numbers of my credit card were 60 and they are not. When I asked he to repeat the info she refused. They talk very fast and are quick with the reply. Very slick. I told her she was going to hell for stealing and hung up.
There seems to be a bit of conflicting information in this thread with some saying the number is legit. I am convinced it isn't and would urge you to take precautions to avoid being scammed by these bottom dwellers. Amazon told me that they do not make such calls.- Caller: Amazon???
- Scam Fighter replies to Scam FighterSorry about the typos in my post.
- TravisI received a call from this number, hey asked my identification by name, I asked what the call was in regards to. They asked if I purchased an HDMI cord, I said yes, and I asked them why, then I became a little paranoid, they also had the information of some other big item purchases that I had made within the last half hour and he listed them all off, he asked me if my address was accurate, he gave it to me, didn't ask anything about my credit card, then told me it was to verify the order, I called my cc company, they said they ahd a fraud alert for the cord, the cs rep for my card said there didn't appear to be any suspicious activity, there was a 1$ charge for Prime, I'm assuming it is because I accepted the Prime trial and then canceled it right away. There was no request for personal information. But after reading the stuff on this site I got super paranoid. Now I feel a little better because I know my cc company has my back. plus I pretty much maxed out the one card so there isn't much room for fraud, happy holidays everyone. I'll follow up next Thursday after my last package is scheduled to arrive.

- TOMReceived 2 calls today but did not picked them up. Lots of marketing calls for vacation travels. Don't ever even consider a vacation timeshare - I didn't sign up for 1 but was curious about what deals were available. After that, they have your contact info for life and will keep hounding you. These are supposed to be reputable brands like Hilton, Marriott etc - all the same, desperate marketers trying to meet their quotas and don't care about laws or decency.
Anyway... since I didn't pick up the phone, I have no idea if they were from Amazon - but I did buy 2 gift cards on Amazon yesterday. So... it is possible that it's Amazon calling to confirm the order - which was received fine without an issue.
But regardless, if you do pick up, ask them to confirm the details of your order and don't give out any personal information. It's easy to spoof phone numbers now and hence, still be vigilant and never give out any personal information over the phone. If you want to be sure, tell them you will contact Amazon yourself and confirm the order.- Caller: I think it was Amazon
- Den3 calls Tonight, I don't have an order pending. No fraudulent transactions pending either.
- NA| 1 replyJust a few minutes after noticing several charges on my card that were not made by me, I received a call from this number. The person on the phone asked if I had authorized a $75.00 purchase to amazon. I told them no and they apologized and said they would reverse the charge. I called my bank and they canceled the card, but just a few days later another charge came through, this one for $98.97. Even though my card had been canceled the charge was approved before that had happened.
- Travis replies to NAFollow up from previous post. It's been about a month now, I received all of my purchases from Amazon days after placing the order and getting the call. No extra charges on my card or suspicious activity to report.
- CarolI received a call from a woman who did not identify herself, from an international number from Bangalore, Kanataka. She wanted to verify my purchase of a laptop that I had made from Amazon within 20 min of my placing the order. I told her that I did purchase the laptop, she had my mailing address, then she wanted me to give her my VISA account number. I refused and told her if someone from Amazon really needed my credit card number again that I would only give that information if I called Amazon directly. I hung up on her then immediately got a call from the 206-508-4014 number; it sounded like the same woman, who again did not ID herself, said she was calling to verify the purchase from Amazon and once again wanted me to give her my VISA acct number. I hung up and called Amazon, the customer service representative couldn't tell me anything about the caller, said they do not ask for acct numbers over the phone, and told me my purchase was under review.
- Just got a call from this numberJust got several calls from this number. Here's how it played out:
Didn't answer four calls very early this morning, caller ID showed up as Amazon. I called the number back after making coffee.
The person who answered answered as Amazon and asked what can I do for you today? I said I was returning a call from this number. He asked me for my email address and billing address for verification so he could find out why I had been contacted. Not having finished my coffee yet, I actually answered him. And he said to hold while he verified the information.
In the meantime, I thought I'd pull up my Amazon account, just in case. He returned and said that they just wanted to verify that I had received all my orders over the holidays. Seemed reasonable, but it also struck me as odd especially after four attempted calls, and replied, "that's all?"
That prompted him to mention my last order, for aspirin, and asked if I had received it. I said that I had, and asked why I had been called four times before 8 am to very an order for children's aspirin. He said it was just a customer service call and asked if there was anything else he could do for me today. I said no and hung up.
As I already had my Amazon account open, I checked my orders, and remembered I had made a couple more purchases since then, which he didn't verify, and made me suspicious. I usually use my Amazon credit card for Amazon purchases, so I checked it online. I saw two charges for $1 each, first from Amazon, then from Amazon Prime, made this morning.
I called Synchrony Bank, which manages Amazon's credit card, to ask about the $1 charges. The customer service rep I spoke to asked the same questions the "Amazon" rep did: name, email, billing address. She then asked me to verify the last transaction on my account. I told her the last time I used the account was before the holidays and asked about the $1 charges made today.
She responded that in addition to the $1 charges, there was an additional charge of $19 that just posted as an Amazon purchase. Did I just purchase anything on Amazon? No. I asked if it might be some service fee that Amazon charges? She said I should contact Amazon, and that she would provide me with their customer service number. In the meantime, she was going to flag the charges made today as fraudulent and issue me a new card and account number.
I check my Amazon credit card transactions again and there it was an additional $19 charge on top of the two $1 charges labeled as another Amazon purchase. I check my Amazon account: no new $19 order, no pending orders, nothing showing up as unusual.
I call Amazon. Same verification process as fake Amazon: name, email, billing address. However, she was able to verify all my purchases after the aspirin order. She sounded horrified when I told her everything that had happened up to the point I had called her. I gave her the 206-508-4014 number and she told me Amazon's customer service numbers all start with 866 or 888, and that the number I had given her wasn't listed in the system as a valid CS number. She seemed more put out when I said the number came up as Amazon on caller ID.
She's making a report and told me I'd be contacted if there were any updates or if they had any further questions. Don't think it'll amount to much, but if you're looking this number up and reading this: BEWARE!
My guess is these scam artists take out small amounts and at varying/later times so as to fly under the radar, especially with folks who buy a lot from Amazon.
They must've gotten my info during the security breach around the holidays (found out about that via Google) which had my latest purchase at that time. I believe they call to make sure the info is still up to date before they try anything so as not to trigger any fraud alerts, but I think my doubtful manner on the phone made them act immediately in case I cancelled the credit card (which I did).
Call them back and give them (guidelines say to watch my language) if you want, send autofaxes their way to block their phone lines, but don't allow them to verify any info about you. They are NOT Amazon.- Caller: NOT Amazon
- JohnWoman with Indian accent asked for me by name and asked me to verify that I ordered "computer stuff" (which I did, just a few minutes earlier). I said yes and told her the items I ordered, then she said okay I just wanted to verify the order. Am I at risk if I didn't give or verify any sensitive information?

- Ron replies to SteveThe number is Amazon's but the call is not. It is spoofed.
- they did it to me too replies to it'snotamazonI also got a call from a woman with a middle eastern accent this morning while getting my son ready for school. She said she was calling from Amazon and verifying that I placed an order for a gift card for $150 on my Discover card ending in ####. I said no I didn't. She then said thank you for that and when I tried to ask her a question we were disconnected. I figured I had lost the connection as I was on my cell, but as soon as I got home I called Discover and reported it and fortunately they assured me that all of the fraudulent charges are NOT my responsibility and that my card is now cancelled. People suck.
- AngryCall from a gentleman with a strong accent claiming to be from daipers.com (I guess people got savvy to the fake amazon.com calls...). He used my first name and told me someone was trying to buy giftcards with a credit card ending in xxxx. I recognized the last four digits as a card I use frequently. He wanted me to give him the rest of the credit card number to verify it was mine so he could cancel the 'fraudulent' charges. I told him I didn't have the card on me, but to go ahead and cancel the charges anyway. Then immediately called my credit card company and told them the whole story. In the meantime a flurry of fraudulent charges appeared on my credit card.
If this number calls you, even if you do not give them any information, contact your credit card company IMMEDIATELY. - BHGot a call today 1-28-16 from this number. Woman said from Amazon calling about my Chase card. Told her I have credit cards I use with my account but not a Chase card.

- Kayla| 1 replyOkay, so if anyone read this far into the thread then you're probably as confused as I was. I got two calls this morning and looked up the number and found this post. Now, it doesn't make any sense because some people swear it's a scam and others promise that it's actually amazon. So what is the deal???
Well, I just made a large purchase on behalf of my boyfriend and instantly got this call afterward. Because I didn't recognize the number, I didn't answer and immediately looked it up. Then I found this post and was seriously worried that I was being scammed. Then I tried to log onto my amazon account and I was locked out (even after changing my password). So, I called amazon, and they claimed that they had no record of my earlier purchase (all in the same day). I even gave the order number and they couldn't find anything. I asked if I should place the order again and the Amazon rep said yes, and that the issue might be because I ordered from a third party (not amazon) and the company was worried that my card was fraudulent.
So, I changed my password, again. After talking to the rep, this worked. I placed my order, again. (nothing happened to my bank account after the first order and there was no 1$ charge). And once again I got a call from the same number. This time I answered, being aware that I should absolutely NOT give out any personal information and it was a woman that clearly spoke English (did not sound foreign at all) and simply asked if I made a charge on Amazon for the exact amount that I had. I confirmed that I had made a large process and she said okay, because if not I can cancel it. I assured her that it was fine and now my order is processing and I have access to my account.
What I think is actually happening is that someone else (not this number) IS making fraudulent charges and this is a number that calls to verify any suspicious activity. So, yes, it's possible that some accounts were hacked, but not by the representative on the other line. Also, I suppose it's possible that scammers have a way to copy the number so it appears as if amazon is calling to verify a purchase.
Long story short, if you recently made a large purchase on Amazon, answer it. If not, check you bank statements immediately and change your Amazon password.- Caller: Amazon
- GrannyI received 2 phone calls from this number, back to back. I did not answer. I had ordered from Amazon yesterday. However I already have e-mails from them with shipping dates for the item and I have checked my credit card and there are no fraudulent charges, only the charge for the item that I ordered. No intention of answering any unknown # phone calls.
- not legitI got 2 calls from this number. I ignored the first one and answered the second. I hung up in a man with a heavy indian accent. I looked up the number and found this forum. I called Amazon and they told me that this number is not from Amazon and to BLOCK the number. Amazon said they if there was a fraud alert on my account they would have sent an email. I also have no pending charges or anything in my bank account thank God. Be careful everyone and IGNORE this number!

- TeeI got the call this morning from a lady with a bit of an accent. She kept saying my amazon visa card and I was like I don't have an amazon visa just amazon. But anyway she goes on to say that there was suspected fraud charge for $1410. I told her it's not my charge and she said she will go ahead and cancel the order and that I should contact my financial institution. She also said she will send an email to me about the call and I asked her what email do they have on file....she said for security purposes they are not allowed to see the email address. I did get an email 5 min later with the title:Recent charges from Amazon.com. The email address used is: account-alert@amazon.com and the email says:
Hello,
We believe that an unauthorized party has registered an account with your Visa ending in 40. To protect your information, we have closed this account and canceled any pending orders.
We recommend that you review all recent activity on this card and report any unauthorized charges to your financial institution.

That 40 ending is an amazon store card not a visa card and when I checked I did not see any fraudulent activity. So I am not sure if this is legit or not since she has my card as a visa card which it is not...but I will say that I didn't have to offer or verify any information just confirm whether I placed that order or not.- Caller: Amazon
