Thank you all for reporting. I did not answer but I went to check my amazon account and it would not let me on, and when I checked my email, someone had changed the email. and I had 2 unknown charges on my bank account. Froze account and they canceled orders, now just waiting for fraud to call back.

Pretty sure this is not Amazon.  Received this call a day after ordering a laptop.  They had my name and asked to confirm if I had bought a laptop.  I said yes.  I gave them no further info and they didn't ask for any.

I felt this to be odd so I googled and came across this.  I called Amazon first who confirmed they DO NOT MAKE THESE TYPES OF CALLS.  I have changed my password and have also added phone verification.

I logged into online banking - no dodgy transactions showed up, so called my bank to check.  All the pending transactions that showed up were legit, except a £1 Amazon charge (on top of the £550 that was my legit order).  The bank lady didn't seem too concerned with that one but I am not convinced, so am going to keep my eye on my balance over the next few days just to make sure.

I don't get the angle on this scam.  I gave them nothing they didn't already have, so why make the call and make me suspicious??  It would make so much more sense not to call me

And since I called Amazon, I have now received an email from them confirming again that the call was not from Amazon.co.uk

Lordy people! This caller is NOT AMAZON!!!!! Call the real Amazon Customer Service number and ask them about this number!
Or don't....and be prepared to get ripped off with unauthorized purchases and then you can cancel your credit card, change your Amazon password and have some stressful days.

I just got off the telephone with Amazon after receiving two calls from this number.

PDX, you are soooo very wrong! I just got off the phone with Amazon and they are investigating this telephone number for FRAUD!
Since you are validating the call, you must be involved in the fraud.

People, call Amazon Customer Service and ask them about this number. Let them tell you they are investigating numerous complaints of fraud concerning this telephone number.

I ordered a rather expensive item from Amazon this am. Shortly thereafter I received a call on my cell phone which I did not recognize. I entered the number and read the 800 Notes comments. Some say not fraud, some say it is fraud. So, I called Amazon for clarification.

Amazon Customer Service says emphatically that this call is NOT from them.  They also said they are investigating these calls. I question the posters who say the call is legitimate, for it is not.

The best action you can take is call Amazon yourself. Tell them you got a call from this number and they will tell you the truth about this fraud.

I too got a call after placing an Amazon order. I called Amazon and they said the call is fraudulent and not from Amazon. They are investigating. The recommended the changing of Amazon password and monitoring debit and credit cards.

Yes, I affirm that it is not Amazon, but a fraudulent scam.  They told me to change my password and watch my credit card for charges. What they could not tell me is how this is happening and how criminals are able to access Amazon information. They are investigating.

If in doubt, please call Amazon.

This is not Amazon! I got a call from this number after placing an order with Amazon. Call seemed suspicious, so I called Amazon customer service. Amazon said they are investigating numerous attempts by these criminals to do credit card fraud by impersonating Amazon.
I hope you hung up on these criminals.

This call is NOT from Amazon! If you received a call from this number call Amazon Customer service and tell them you got a call. They will tell you they are investigating the caller/phone number for credit card fraud due to the caller impersonating Amazon.
If you are posting and saying this phone number is associated with Amazon, you are either ignorant, or a part of the fraud...or both.

I live in Belgium and for the story I bought this morning a Samsung galaxy s6 edge plus for my mom's birthday with my dad's credit card on Amazon.fr.
Shortly after i received a call from the same number as you all originating from Washington. The woman on the phone spoke a perfect french and asked me if i was my father. I told her it was MY account and MY FATHER credit card. She didn't ask anything more. She thanked me and wished me a wonderful afternoon.

I was a little bit confused so i call Amazon France customer service (yes, no amazon in belgium, but France is so close to us it doesn't matter) and the guy on the phone had a worse french accent than the woman from Washington.
I asked him what was that call and after a little bit of waiting time, he told me it was nothing to worry about and that it was just a credit card check and that my order would be shipped shortly after.

He send me a copy of our call so i got a proof of what he said just in case.

So, a possibilty is that the call was really just a check, OR the amazon France guy told me [***] on the phone and just didn't know what it was.
At least i got proof if it blows in my face.

I changed my amazon password after reading your comments cause this all thing is pretty weird.

I will keep an eye on my amazon account and tell my father to keep an eye on his credit card statement.
If it's a scam and Amazon France isn't carefull enough, i will make rain [***] on them :)

Just saw this caller attempt to contact my phone.  I did not answer, but contacted Amazon immediately.  Someone had gained access to my account & tried to purchase electronics through my account.
They were attempting to have it shipped to:

Called three times one right after another. Blocked before they could call again. Caller ID "SEATTLE WA".

I also received a call from this number (which I didn't answer) shortly after ordering a pricey camera lens from a third-party seller on Amazon.  I called Amazon Customer Service to report it, and they weren't interested in hearing about it -- just gave my bland assurances about their security precautions and didn't even bother asking for the phone number.

I just got a called from these criminals trying to be Amazon. I gave them no information and hung the phone up.

Bought something expensive on amazon and almost immediately got the call.  Did not pick up and contacted amazon customer service - they did not seem to know any history associated with the phone number and assured me that they did not initiate the call.  My question is how are they getting personal info  (phone number, order history) from amazon's "secure server, blah blah blah"??  Doesn't make me feel very safe.

Last night I was purchasing a video through my T.V. when a notice came up on my screen that because a large purchase had been declined soon before, it would take a little time to confirm the video purchase. I thought it was odd, but the purchase went through and I was able to watch the video.

Then, today, I receive a call from this number and look it up like I do every number that I don't know. I found this page, and I'm glad that I did. What has happened is that I used the same email address and password with a different website that was hacked last year, for my Amazon account. I really thought that nothing would ever happen so I didn't bother with changing the information. Well, it appears that the people who have this old email and password are accessing the Amazon website to try to make purchases based on your information. Since they are logged into your account, they see all of your personal information and previous orders. If you confirm that you received one of your orders, then you are confirming the address that they have for you, which means that now they know for a fact that your billing address is correct so they can now place orders without triggering fraud alerts on your credit card. Well, they then try to place an order with your account. They ship to a new address, which trigger's Amazon's security measures which makes them enter the credit card information. If they don't have the credit card number, then they will ask you to verify it. Once you verify it, they can place the order. They don't need to enter a real shipping address; they only need an address of someone who will not likely be home when the order arrives so that they can swing buy and grab it from the door--remember, they have the tracking information.

If the order doesn't go through, and you are not willing to verify any information, then the "hacker" simply deletes the ship-to address and removes all traces that they were in your account. When you go to login, and you see that nothing is wrong, you may be tempted to leave the password the way it is; however, you should absolutely change your password. If there are devices attached to your account, make sure that they are your devices.

So, the call is NOT from Amazon. Your password is compromised. Change your Amazon.com password now.

Literally made an order and they called 5, min later .  From Washington . Didn't answer  hoe would they get my number so fast ?
