This afternoon I received a phone call from (212-000-3459 that claimed to be calling people who are computer users. Claiming they are calling to walk you through protecting your computer from a Malicious program attacking your computer. I asked the gentleman (with an accent0 who he was calling on behalf of and he rambled some name off. I told him I was not turning on my computer a she requested and I wanted to know what company it was again. i told him that i was reporting this number and not to call again, at which point i was told to "F off " by him and he hung up. Company still unknown at this time.

Received the same today.  Sounded like a scam to me so I told him to send me something in writing and hung up.
Strange but this past week I was just a victim of fraudulant activity on my checking account as someone used my debit card to buy something online through woot.com.
Be careful and check your financial accounts closely.

The Do Not Call List is A JOKE!!!!

Here what you need to do.

Go to this website http://www.porticus.org/bell/recordedannouncements.html and download the SIT tones and messages if you like. I like WATSOutOfBand-.wav. Use this as your Answering machine message.  The SIT Tones will tell their RoboDialer that your phone number is not working and after a few times you number will be removed. SInce these pieces of garbages sell their databases (they probably also sell pornographic photos of their children) they will remove your number.

Same exact story. Man calling from India, wanting all the info he could get from me. DO NOT log on with these scammers so they can clean out your personal assets from your computer. These people are just scum. With no regard for anyone but themselves. Give out no personal info.

Got the same thing -, asked for my Mr (wifes name), we don't have the same surname, so I immediately know it's a scam.  Then asked me about my windows computer.  Told him I don't have one, some silence and then he hung up.

I received a call from them as well and it was clearly a scam about computers. When I asked them detailed questions they hung up. I could barely understand the caller because their accent was so thick,

Today, 03/07/12 12:50 p.m. PDST, guy called, obviously from a call center of sorts as other conversations could be heard in the background and talked about malware, viruses, etc. and wanted me to go to my PC.  I asked him other questions.  He stated he was in the "Maintenance Department" of OneStop Solutions ..., or something like that.  Obviously phishing for data from the PC; no doubt that this is a SCAM.  I let him talk & talk to waste his time, I had my dog bark on command to annoy him, and then let him think I was doing something on the PC.  He wanted me to go into the desktop configuration.

BTW, about a month ago I received a similar call but there wasn't a phone # that was available, but I am pretty sure it was the same.

They somehow know my name and my phone number.

Got the same call from a guy with a thick Indian accent just a few minutes ago.  He called me by name but I just couldn't understand what he was saying.  He did say something about computers and junk files and Microsoft.  Those were about the only words I could understand.  I told him I wasn't interested and hung up. Then I decided to look the number up.  I was surprised to even find it on here as the 000 prefix does not exist.  I am sure they are scammers, wish there was something we could do to them.

I just got a call from "Richard Anderson" who had a thick East Indian accent. Right. He was calling about our computers and supposedly a malicious virus that cannot be detected by antivirus software. He had our names and full address. He said he was calling from "one stop e solutions"  to help. I went along with his instructions for a bit to see what he was up to and he wanted me to press the "Ctrl" and windows keys on my keyboard. This brings up the "RUN" window. He wanted me to type "eventvwr" and run it to see if the virus was in the management area of my harddrive. I told him I was not about to run anything that a stranger who has called has asked me to run. He kept saying "trust me". He gave me a website to go to that will answer all my questions and give me comfort to follow his instructions. 1stopsolution.com. I told him to give me his number and I would call back even though he wanted to wait on hold while I check the website.  He gave me 1-888-458-9001. Thanks for the postings on this scam. Richard Anderson my a**!

    TrickTelemarkers
Same scam as above.  In hindsight I believe the best course of action is to keep them on the phone as long as possible.  Don’t confirm information and pretend to be doing what they are asking.

The more time they waste with you the less time they have to screw-up someone else’s life.  Someone who doesn’t know better or someone not as educated.

These monsters prey on the naïve.  So in the future, keep them on and pretend to be working on your PC.  Update they name and address info to "Joe Gee Eye".  Let them know you are working on your windows OS but have just recently installed the "Cobra Commander" software and are worried it is the virus he is talking about.

Just waste their time, if we band together we can make it financially unreasonable to telemarket.  Don’t worry, once I become president, my first order of business will be to wage war against the telemarking threat we all suffer from.

In the meantime, have fun with the telemarketer.  If you hang-up quickly, they just autodial another number and eventually get what they want.  Don’t hang up for any reason.  Keep them on the phone, put them on hold, and waste their time.  Remember, their time is money.  They have calculated that people who will not fall for the scam will hang up quickly.  Change the calculation by making a stand.

FYI - All your info they are getting is most likely in a phone book.  Remember, yellow pages has your name, address and home phone.  And several other companies that take your name, phone and address also resell, have it stolen or lose it, all the time.  This is a downside of the digital age we live in.

    Good info Alex,
We have been called by this 212 000 3459 number several times in the last couple of weeks.  We don't answer it as it is such a weird phone number.  They never leave a message.   I googled  "eventvwr" that you mentioned they wanted you to RUN on your computer.    It has a name.  It's called the "event viewer scam".  Here is current info relating to this scam.

EXCLUSIVE: Telephone Tech Support Scams Hitting Missouri
These scams involve an unsolicited telephone call advising they are from Microsoft, Windows Support, Dell or some other large or legitimate sounding company.  The caller claims they need to help fix or clean your PC, and will guide the user through the Microsoft event log and show them “warnings and errors.”  These errors are common and have nothing to do with malware infections.  Sometimes the “technician” will also guide the unsuspecting user to look at the running services or processes, and claim that these are also related to malware.
Typically at this point the user is directed to download a remote access tool such as Ammyy or LogMeIn and allow the technician access into the computer.  The user is fooled into believing the technician is helping.  In the end important services may be disabled, and the user is asked to purchase a product or support to fix the PC.  The caller will ask a victim to disclose information pertaining to a credit card or bank account for payment, or for other personal information and passwords.
There are many versions of this scam.  Additionally, online tech support companies may also participate in the same types of scams.  The bottom line is to never accept technical support from anyone unless you initiated the call to a known company or software vendor.  "

Got a call today and several in the past, they are calling about once a week. Strong Indian accent. Said he was calling from the company "One stop E Solutions" obviously phony. They want remote access to get full use of your computer and all its contents. No way to trace, no way to stop. Best thing to do is waste their time as much as you can and string them along. Thinking of getting a spare junk computer to use when they call so I can mess with them as much as I can. Tell people you know to beware of these scammers.
