- Me again! replies to zbrawomanI am getting the feeling that Google ,Microsoft and Verizon doing this, how you think that they made BILLIONS $$$? Phone calls! That how! You try to find out who called , you force yourself to go to your computer and try to find out who CALL by entering the phone numbers from the ID CALLER and they are in BIG BUSINESS,THAT HOW!!!
- BuffFlyerGot a call from this number this morning. Thank you called-ID! Easy to make this guy as a telemarketer, though until I checked here I didn't realize this was the "something's wrong with your computer" scam.
So I answer, "Hello Telemarkter!" A thick Indian voice said, "Are you a telemarketer?" I answered, "No, you are! You're calling to waste my f---king time!" He replied, "You don't want to buy something?" I replied, "From you? No f----ing way!" and hung up.
Usually I just blow off these calls, but occasionally they are good therapy. It's like a free down. A license to be rude. In a way it's kind of sad. Those of my age were raised to have good "telephone manners." But telemarketers and scammers have changed all that. Only a sucker would be polite to one of these [***] clowns. So, if you're going to answer, have some fun!- Caller: Unknown Scammer
- Call type: Telemarketer

- MCI just recieved the call today. Since I am an IT manager, I do know little about malware and virus protection. This person once again had an Indian accent, and he told me my computer was infected. I said really! I asked him if he had ever heard of donotcall.gov and immediately he hung up. Funny!
- sharonMy 82 year-old mother received a phone call from 212-000-3459 for the 2nd time this week. Caller ID listed "name not found". This time mom handed me the phone, & I answered pretending to be a "confused computer-illiterate elder person". The man with a very thick Middle East accent identified himself as 'Phil Adam", working for Microsoft, attempting to contact all new computer owners whose computers have been infected and compromised by malicious software. He asked if I recently purchased a new Microsoft computer with Windows 7 or Windows 8. I immediately began to record audio on my camera for the next 16 mins. I pretended to go along with him as he thoroughly instructed me, step-by-step through turning on my computer, entering 'www.showmypc.com ' in the 'Runbox.' He was kind, thoughtful, understanding, and patient as I fumbled through window after window on the imaginary computer. He repeatedly asked what came up on the screen, as I pretended to followed his directions to "click on the green circle with the white arrow" located in the left hand corner....Click x1 to minimize a windo... click x1 to install...open and save the program & temporary file" that would show & allow the repair technician to help me resolve the infected computer files". I then claimed to have another incoming call. I placed him on hold momentarily. I returned & asked this person what phone number I could call him back at because my daughter had an emergency. He refused to give me a phone number, reassuring he would call back in 10 min. I said it would take me 15-20 min with my daughter. He called back in 5 min. I answered the phone "Green Bay City Police Dept., How can I help you?" He tried to intimidate me by saying my (mother's) name repeatedly, asking "Are you finished talking with your daughter, your fake daughter....with your fake call? I responded again with "Green Bay City Police Dept., How can I help you?" He laughed and asked why I was claiming to be the police when he knew I was (mom's name). He said "I know you live at 1234 xxxxx St. in Green Bay Wi." I responded again with "Green Bay City Police Dept., How can I help you?" He said "Can you say anything else other than that...yes, no, maybe? I asked "What do you want? What are you calling for?" He responded "That was a lame excuse lady, that was a lame excuse...I've got...I can understand that."
I informed him the call was being recorded...which was the truth! He finally hung up. - CillaKeep getting this call from 212-719-2300,calleer ID has it as a Hotel in Times Square?? Got 2 calls and the latest was a t 8AM. Ok,so who's the genius behind this?

- Gerry replies to mattGot a cal today and my wife answered. the implied they were from Microsoft and needed access to my system to fix virus and malware. When I got home they were remptely controlling my machine. I immediately told them to cease and desist. I spoek to several Indian gentleman and was told they were providing this support to all windows users. While I was talking I went on line a looked them up and forud a rip off report that claims they are a scam and I could expect a bill for $299.
I argeued with them that I did not authorize them to do anything and the claimed my wife did.
They eventually agreed not to charge me after I told them I would notify the feds, adn well as a post on Facebook. - Not falling for phone scamsI just got a call from a guy with a heavy accent telling me that he was calling about my "computer repairs". I told him that he had the wrong number. He said, "well, this is ###-###-#### and you do have a computer, right?" I said, "yes, but I did not even call for any 'repairs'. Please take my number off your list." Then I hung up. My mother-in-law said they called our house yesterday and got hung up on when she told them that we were not home. I thought it was real strange that the number on the ID was incomplete... 23-456-7809 instead of it being a normal 10-digit number. Must be another trick of these [***], so we can't return the favor and call them and harass them.
