I was contacted by "John Alan". The letter was almost verbatim what has already been posted here.  He sent a couple more to follow up but I was increasingly suspicious and called my son, who works for the FBI in fraud.  He knew right away it was a scam and said I should go the FBI website and report it.  And so I shall.  We all should.

I just got scammed by Jennifer Garcia. Here is what she wrote:

I suspected there was something wrong with this so I wrote back just to see if there is someone on the other end watching how I responded. Here is my reply to her:

You said in the letter to send you pictures. What pictures? I posted 4 pics already? can you tell me what more would you like to see or know?

Same Jen Garcia deal.  Best bad bank check we've ever received.  Watermark, perforation.  RTN matches the bank in question.  Still, I know its bad.  They can stop payment on it after creating it.  They can say it was destroyed.  Check says its from IBERIABANK in LA but the fedex return address is from Durham, NC.  Why would somebody from NC go to a bank in LA to buy a bed in Denver, CO?   No reason!   When they respond, did they mention the item specifically?  Folks with disabilities are well taken care of by our system.

I received 2 checks from this "Jen Garcia" in her effort to buy a $200 headboard. I was weary the whole time, but I'm not doing this for me - for my mom - and she wanted me to proceed with caution. I found this thread after searching her name and she sent me this message this morning:

"Hello,
How are you today?The check has been delivered via fedex,Thanks for your honesty towards this transaction so far.Well, the overpayment is meant to cover the cost of shipment for the item alongside my other properties including tax and insurance plus the movers and agent fees.
Please deposit the check today so that it clears tomorrow after the check has cleared,After clearance tomorrow all you have to do is go the bank and have the rest of the money withdrawn in cash and have it sent to the movers via Money Gram

I also posted an ad on Craigslist selling barstools.  I rec'd the following email from Kelsey Louise.  I reported the scam to Craigslist:

Thank God, I found this site!  I have been dealing with Jen Garcia also.  My emails look identical.  She sent me a check for $2400.00 for a $200.00 bedroom set.  I was very suspicious!  Investigated further and found this site.  My check came Fed Ex.  I am reporting her to Craiglist and sending her an email telling her I know it is a scam.  I am tearing up the check.   Check came from Omega Protein in Texas but the return address on the envelope says The Mosaic Company in Washington and the mover is in California.  Should I also report this to Fed Ex?

I received pretty much the same bizarre Craigslist request.  They fed exed me a check for $1,650 too much and wanted me to get a money gram and mail it to Alicia Tanksley (the movers).   They told me to keep an extra $20 to hold the purchase for them and an extra $40 for the hassle of getting the money gram.  I knew it seemed very sketchy- so I googled Alicia Tanksley and it led me to this page.  I read your letters and cannot believe how some of them were almost identical to mine.  I then called the bank the check was coming from and they told me it is a fraud!!!  This was my very first time to try to sell something on Craigslist.  Unbelievable!!!

The creep is still in business as of July 2011.  Same message and same info...wanted my telephone number...lazy piece of crap..you would think he would write a new message instead of cut/paste.  Thank God I have a PO Box and told him to send the check their as a cash note.  Never responded.

Ha!  I have wasted my time with replying to these pathetic theives and it almost makes it worse, as the scams became more frequent for me.  I wouldn't bother myself with it if I were you.  They have no conscience and are uneducated,(barely speeking english, unless that is one of there sly cover ups) so will most likely not understand your sarcasm.  I understand how you feel, though.

Seems like they are bottom feeders combing craigslist. We got one too. Felt it was a bit strange so decided to google the name Alicia Tanksley and found this thread. Can you imagine what losers they are sitting all day trying to scam people? Why aren't Craigslist cracking down on these guys?

Got the same bogus e-mail on an ad I placed for furniture on Craigslist, I was very suspicious and googled the email address from where the guy sent it - today is 8.13.11 so they are still in business (unfortunately).  Here is the e-mail address that sent me the email from "John":  trackyoursnow@googlemail.com  

I will go to the FBI website and report this - I hope they catch these people.  Thank goodness I was suspcious.
