I am a person with first-hand knowledge of these survey operations, so let me put some rumors to rest.

    1.  Yes, it's legitimate.  National Opinion Research Center is contracted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct the National Immunization Survey as well as the related National 2009 H1N1 Flu Survey.  See http://www.cdc.gov/nis/ and http://www.cdc.gov/NIS/h1n1_introduction.htm.  And http://www.cdc.gov/NIS/faq_h1n1.htm contains FAQ including questions about who NORC is.

    2.  No, it is not illegal to randomly dial cell phones.  Also, because this is a non-profit government venture that is not commercial (i.e. not selling anything), the "do not call" list does not apply.

    3.  That said, yes you can stop receiving the calls if you answer and inform the interviewer that you do not want to participate in the survey.  The should not call you again (if they do it is a mistake and you should inform them once again that you do not which to participate).  If you just ignore and never answer they will keep calling.

    4.  The important questions on the survey are, in fact, about immunizations and/or the flu.  The other questions about phone usage habits, etc. are there to ensure proper processing of the collected data.

I intercepted a call from this surveyor. There's a couple of solutions to keep them from calling back. When you answer the phone, simply act as though you don't speak english or can't hear them. There's no limit. Have fun and be creative. Tell them you have the flu, you can't talk. Or just start rambling random sentences when they ask you questions. Unless the caller has the patience of a saint, they won't want to converse with someone who is annoying. :) Enjoy your fruits...

Your "facts" have no proof and you are disseminating dangerous information.  The British doctor who "proved" that thimerosol causes autism has had his papers removed from the archives of the lancet because of poor research and invalid conclusions and has had his medical license revoked.  'nuff said.  Of course, people like you probably think that that is another conspiracy!

Received a call from a woman saying they are doing a nationwide survey on cell phone users, and my number had been selected.  I just cut her off, said no thank you, and hung up.  This is my company-provided cell phone, so it is particularly annoying.

Furthermore, no vaccinating your children is DANGEROUS for them and others in your community. Perhaps you should read about the days before vaccines when children often died from measles, rubella, mumps, polio and influenza. Read more and you will come across cases of outbreaks of disease, like measles, in communities where there is a high concentration of stupid uninformed people, like you, who refuse to vaccinate your kids. Let them eat dirt and vaccinate them, their immune systems will thank you.

I have had numerous calls from this company and have requested they take me off the list.  Unfortunately, they are a telephone surveyor company and are EXEMPT from the do not call list:

    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm
“Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you’ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls.”

Your only recourse is to contact them directly to request they take you off the list.

You may want to mention that if they continue to call, you will supply the surveyor with bad data.  It would waste their time and poison the validity of their study.  It’s about the only thing that will hurt them.

I called the 800 number below:
    One North State Street
    Chicago, IL 60602
    (312) 759-5200
    1-800-993-0495

And asked to be taken off their list...
    The catch?
They will only take you off their list IF...they have called it.
You, evidently, may not preemptively remove you number -- only *after* they have called it.

    Suggestion,
-Put the number in you address book so you recognize it.
-Do NOT answer, but Call the 800 number from a land line and get you number removed.

Try polite first...the lady was quite responsive and took the already-called numbers off the list...
now we wait til the next phone is called... ... ...<sigh>

I received the survey call stating that they were from the CDC and that my cell number was 'selected' to receive this call. That immediately made me suspicious.  Asked me if I was 18 or older.  I replied yes. She then launched into whether I had a home phone and would it be likely to be answered.  Rather than tell her I thought she was lying through her teeth, I hung up.

First of all, they're using up my cell phone minutes without my permission, so forget them.  Second of all, they didn't ask my permission to proceed with the survey as any real survey organization would.

I'm fairly certain this is FAKE, and they are simply collecting demographic data to attach to the list of phone numbers they have for future marketing purposes, or possibly for obtaining personal information to scam people, or to case their homes to see when they are away so they can rob the place.

The people who have posted here that it is legitimate probably work for the scammers to fool us into thinking they are legit.

Don't believe them.  Survey companies, government agencies, and legitimate organizations don't operate this way.

It is a survey organization under University of Chicago and were awarded contract by CDC.
Which makes them contractors and not employees.  I have never heard of a survey company which is immune from government laws and regulations.
Here is a link for one of the contracts awarded:  http://www.norc.org/news/norc+wins+5-year+con ... cs+reach+us.htm

They claim that they are calling from CDC hence impersonating a federal employee, which is punishable up to 3 years in prison.  http://en.allexperts.com/q/Criminal-Law-916/I ... al-employee.htm

CDC is loosing credibility because of this organization.

    * Submit complaints continuesly to DonotCall.gov
    * Send an email to cdcinfo@cdc.gov explaining how you feel about the way survey is being conducted by the contractor.
