- JustinCase replies to AG| 1 replyPlay it safe and refrain from returning calls to mystery numbers. It's a live voice they're looking for as many of these pests are often unprepared for an automatic answer.
- DinaA credit/debit card phone phishing scam mostly happening in the midwest. Do not trust positive reviews because anyone can leave them. They're most likely from the people pulling the scam. They already have some of your info through social engineering (probably from digging through your trash, looking at your receipts, etc...) and they want to trick you into filling in the rest of the details for them so they can rob you. That's why you can't call the number back. Any real fraud department wouldn't have one way numbers and if it were real you should get some kind of website when googling the number. They just spoof the caller id and disappear with all of your money. Don't fall for this crap! Report it to the authorities. I even have actual sources.

- Jaci| 1 replyThis is MasterCard fraud alert. They called to ask about some charges that turned out not to be valid. They cancelled my card. I still had to call my bank and file the fraud charges and request a new card. These people don't sound legit at first because they use all nationalities in the call center. They had me on the defense. My debit card was compromised, I think from using a Valero gas station for fill up. I usually use the account for bill pay and seldom use the debit card except for emergencies so it showed up as unusual activity. They called three times without leaving a message.

Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,
CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD
Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD - Susan| 1 replyThis is a legit company. They call on behalf of your bank/credit union when they see unusual charges on your card.
- no nameTHIS IS A Scam. They called 3 times on a SUNDAY to my phone, no bank works on a sunday, and the last call was at 7 pm . On Monday I called my bank directly, and they stated they did not call and there was no unusual changes on my card. My bank did states that several people called stating this number called them
Do not listen to the people posting that this is legitimate, because it is not. If you get a call from them call your bank directly - Sarah SmithDo not want these calls
- Anne D.if it's legitimate, then why didn't they leave me a voicemail? We did make some overseas travel arrangements so I do believe it is a legitimate call...but leave a message for Pete's sake!
- Ram ManRec'd a call from something called First Data Group on8/23/16/at 4:02p. Did not bother to answer.
- Caller: First Data Group
- Doesn'tMatterGto call, no message nothing when called back except "Verizon this number does not exist".
ANY legit business would have an active number - so total, full, no messing around, 'We Want Your Info" scam - - kill it folks, do not answer. As 'Slim' above in thread states, if your concerned Call Your Bank Directly - do NOT believe this B.S. at all, and do NOT give them info, ever!
If you DO speak with these entities, and they say they are your brick and mortar bank, allegedly, tell them you'll see the branch manager, and ask for a case number. Ask for your branch managers name, because even if You dont know, its a simple thing to find on your banks website - and make sure you DON T tell them your bank - lol! - or they'll simply google it while speaking with you~
No Case Number = Not Legit, ever~- Caller: idiots
- ValerieGot a call from this number today. Caller ID said, First Data Corp. I think it was a spoofed number. I don't answer calls i don't recognize. looked here and saw where several said it was a legit call. i called back, from a different phone, and i got something like, "the call cannot be completed as dialed". I think someone spoofed this number on this call.
- cme replies to Rosie| 5 repliesIn 2010, I had my identity stolen and the person tried to buy something using a store credit card. I received a call around 8:30 p.m. from the company that services their credit cards. They were legit, so don't assume the time they call means it's a scam.
- Heinz57 replies to cmeI just want to be clear on something...your identity was stolen in 2010 and today 6 years later at 8:30PM you just received a call "from the company that services their credit cards". I am having trouble with that statement and timeline. What is the name of this company and who is "their credit cards"? Why am I having a hard time believing your statement? And when I look at the other posts, something doesn't add up.
- Elspeth replies to cme| 2 repliesSo you're saying you waited six years to post about a phone call that you say is "legit"? Scammers spoof numbers all the time, which is why the smartest thing to do is call the number on the back of your debit or credit card.
- Scam Alert replies to JaciAnother shill for the fraud posting lies here.
This is a widespread fraud - see the details on the BBB site:
http://www.bbb.org/council/news-events/bbb-sc ... edit-card-code/ - post pending moderator approval
- CWG40 replies to cmeMy suspicion is that the callers are not legitimate and you're part of this white collar gang that goes around trying to scam the customers of large financial institutions. A six year wait before you find out about a fraudulent charge? Not likely Shillage-spillage.
- CWG40This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial institutions.
Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
Of the over 35 posts in this thread, I count 11 or so, or about 30% as shill postings.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.
There is a similar pattern to other fake calls. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Sometimes their CIDs read Credit Protection Bureau or something like that. All with the same type of postings.
The shill postings often use the same turns of phrase. The same type of verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.
Never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If you have a problem with a CC or debit card transaction, call the number on the back of the card or the number on your monthly card statement.

- Jeff SmithI just received a call from this number 5 days in a row, a robo call telling me that 'Northwest Savings Bank' has detected fraudulent activity on my account and to please call a number they are giving me. I called Northwest directly using a northwest listed number, and had them look into the information. They said it is a scam call, that ANY automated call or fraud protection service regarding my card would come from an 800 number and they even gave me those numbers so I would know if they called. They also stated that it wouldn't be a robo call, it would be a real person.
She was very nice and double checked that I had no issues, and if there was fraud detected they would shut off the card first then call, whereas right now my card still works just fine. I was advised to continue ignoring this number and I also gave it to NorthWest so they could report it.- Caller: Fake/Scam/Robot - Confirmed By NorthWest
- Billy replies to EricaSame thing happened with me Erica, keep a close check on your debit and credit cards because I was hacked on both accounts about a week later.
