I am from Ontario Canada and my story is Much the same as many have reported. I received a call from a man with a heavy Indian or Pakistani accent trying to tell me that my computer was sending out error messages. When i started to ask questions, he became confused and then he hung up.
Ther should be a way to shut him down, as obviously he has no scruples.

A woman with an Asian accent said she was calling regarding an update of my Microsoft software.
I said it was attempted fraud, and she responded: How do you know?!!!

If she ever calls back and asks how you know it is a scam tell her because Microsoft says so:

I have received this type of phones nearly daily in the past half year, now from the mentioned phone nr.
My question is where do they get our phone numbers from? They seem to know which computer and system we have, do they have access to sale lists of PCs purchased  over the net e.g. Dell?

The person calling from this telephone number is trying to take control over your computer. In addition to trying to cheat you, he is also extremely stupid.  I was talking [***] with him for more than an hour, without him understanding that I was mocking him.  And when I finally hung up, he repeatedly called back.  My question is: Who is paying for these extremely expensive overseas telephone calls?

They just never seem to learn.  Not going to get an answer.  Keep calling and stay on line long enough to register as message, then get a mechanical voice saying "Good bye", but no other message.  Stupid! Since they have never left me a true message, don't know what they are selling or even care.

They asked for the person in charge of the main computer. When I told them that was me they proceeded to tell me that they had detected a virus had been downloaded to my computer. When I asked them if they could tell me my IP they said no. So I asked him for his name He said John (something), with a foreign accent. When I asked for the company name again he hung up. He originally said he was from Windows.

Received phone call this morning, wanted me to turn on my computer.  I live in Arizona.  Asked him how he knew their was a problem on my computer, he gave me some explanation that of course I had no idea what he was talking about.  He had a middle eastern accent and said his name was John, ha. ha.  So I asked him if he found a problem on my computer what would the cost be and he said first he wanted me to turn my computer and check out the problem and if there was no problem there would be no cost.  I told him I didn't have a problem on my computer and so therefore I didn't need him and again he asked me to turn my computer on and and I said no thank you and hung up.

Got a call from this number on 2/19/13 at about noon. I didn't answer but a message left on answering machine was only an automated woman's voice saying "good bye".  I am trying to block these calls by using some instructions I found that says:  After the call has ended, get a dail tone & dail *60, then follow the prompt.

I live in Switzerland and I have just been called today by this phone number 001 402-875-9195.

An indian speaking man, annonced to be Cedric W. (something), with noise of other people speaking in the background, told me he was calling from Microsoft.
He told me that they discovered that my computer had a serious virus. I thought that this was fake but I allowed him to continue to speak to know what he would say.
He explained for about 3 to 5 minutes why he was calling.
I was more and more upset and told him that he could not know about my phone number as I didn't provide it to Microsoft, and wanted to hang up. He said that I could not hang up. I then said that he should never call again. He said: "but we will anyways call you back, as we must warn you.". I then asked for his full name again. After hesitation he said: "Shut up", and he hang up on me.
I forgot to mention that he already tried to call 3 times before that, but I couldn't get the call at that time, I just saw that it was a USA phone call.

Why is USA gov. doing nothing against him. Wasn't there enough people hit and proofs?

    Thanks to do something.

Same to me. I'm living in Germany.
They tried to call me the whole week when I wasn't at home. Yesterday they got me and told the same story - some defect with my computer. Told me, they were Microsoft Service Center calling from London. Why that? There is a Microsoft Service Center in Germany, too ... I hang up. Today they tried to call me again ...

    wasted his time
Just got this call.  Watched tv while he went on and on about my computer sending errors over the internet.  Told him he was right and my  computer was slow and would take a long time to turn on.  Put him on hold, let him do his heavy accented talk, blah blah blah, then once he started asking to get into my computer I told him I was happy to have waisted his time, that I knew it was a scam and that I was happy that he  was not able to phone anyone else while I waisted 10 minutes of his time.  He told me to "Shut-up" and in his crappy English said "I f$% you" about 5 times, very angry, hahah.  I laughed and told him that his response had just verified how bad he is at this scam.  IT IS A SCAM but I had a little fun for today
