    Hi Everyone,

This same phone number just appeared on a transaction when I checked my online banking.  When I traced it I discovered it was associated with a pay pal purchase I made a few days ago for a WordPress plugin.

They never called me but the number is referenced as part of the transaction and it does seem to belong to PayPal.

I use PayPal quite often and they are NOT a scam! I have had problems in the past and PayPal has ALWAYS helped me resolve any issues. I like them myself! Very helpful with issues.

They have allowed many small businesses from home to be able to take credit cards and collect money online that they would have never been able to do if it wasn't through PayPal. Stop the PayPal scam BS!

If you think you have been scammed, they will work with you to resolve any issues to clear it up. We need to face it, their are "smart" theives out there that know how to manipulate the systems out there so be aware and be careful.

I just found a $1 charge from PayPal on my bank statement that included this phone number so I went to the PalPal site, logged into my account, and called the 800 number listed so I could find out if it was from them or if it was a scam test. I learned the $1 was a "test" withdrawal, initiated when I registered my new debit/credit card, and it will be credited back to my account within 7 days. While I was on the phone with the rep, I asked about the 402-935-7733 phone number which appeared behind the debited amount and he said that was PayPal's main number.

Hey Bunny.  Yes you are correct. The same thing happened to my bank account (CHECK CRD PURCHASE 09/04 PP*5837CODE 402-935-7733 CA ) and at first I was thinking some sort of scam cuz I didnt know who it was, but after a long while of thinking back and reading posts here I remembered that last month Paypal had me re-verify my account because I changed my debit card number that I use for the account. In doing so they told me that the would put a test debit to my checking account to make sure money transactions would go through correctly and that after I had replied to the confirmation email..that that amount $1.95 would be credited back to my account.  They did credit it back... but it went to my Paypal account and not back to my checking account.  So anyway...at least it turned out legit.

This number is listed on my credit card statement as the "City/Phone" for a paypal transaction from an ebay purchase.  The purchase happened to be a scam; I'm disputing now via ebay (and then my credit card company if ebay is too slow).

Long story short: This is a legitimate phone number, but just because caller ID or something else claims to be FROM this number doesn't mean a thing.  Caller ID can be faked, and so can most other claims of where a call/purchase is originating.  Only calling a known, trusted phone number yourself ensures that you're actually talking to who you think you are.

Phone # is listed here under "Report Suspicious Activity":

It's not a scam. I actually called PayPal because of a dispute I had with a company online. They were returning my call about it and this was the number that showed up on my caller ID.

I talked to PayPal today and the charge was done by someone in Nebraska that got my password and charged something from GMarket.  Most of the time it is from overseas when this happens. This one is US and is considered Fraud and should be Prosicuted (sp)(too lazy to look up word).  Of course it is against the law for PayPal to divulge the individuals Name (laws are made to protect the criminals).  That figures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway got it fixed by changing password.   I am not saying that some working for payPal didn't sell my user ID and password.  There are rotton apples everywhere.  Look a Martha Stewart!!!!!!!!

    Good luck

Definitely PayPal.  If you have any doubt, log into your PayPal account immediately and change your password just to be safe.  Oh look... you just got an email from PayPal confirming you changed your password and look what number is listed in the email: 402-935-7733!  Stop being dumb and saying it's a scam.

I receive 5 to 6 of these "402-935-7733" paypal debits on my master debit card every month. Everyone of these calls can be matched to ebay transactions that I have made during that same month or subscriptions that are being paid through paypal!! They look somthing like this on my card:

                                     PAYPAL *MERCHANT NAME 4029357733 CA
                                                                     or
                                               PP*2333CODE 4029357733 CA

Nothing fraudulent or mysterious about this at all.  If you did receive this and did not make a purchase then you really need to call paypal so they can help track it down. Paypal is not the bad guy and I doubt (although possible) it is any of their employees. More than likely it is a forgotten transaction or someone else has gotten ahold of your credit information. Hope this helps!!!

It's from PayPal. Here's my story: I got a PayPal invoice for $200 that I paid immediately. At that time there was only $11 in the PayPal acount at that time, so they took that amount from the PayPal balance and then used the Visa credit card account I had on file as a backup payment source for the balance, i.e., $189. So then I check my Visa statement and see this: Paypal *geo Watson 402-935-7733 Ca. $189.

I don't remember paying anyone $189, so I panic, but then go into PayPal and click the "Details" link on the line that shows the $200 payment to this guy. Sure enough, it shows $11 from PayPal balance, $189 from Visa. OK, so it's legit! Mystery solved.

Why that number appears I have no idea. PayPal never called me for any reason.

I had a charge for $689 show up on my credit card with the following merchant information:  PAYPAL *THE IMAGING 4029357733.  I did not recall making this purchase, so logged in to my PayPal account and confirmed I hadn't made the purchase.  In fact, the credit card to which this was charged is not even linked to my PayPal account.  Called my credit card company to report the fraud.

Bottom line is you need to always check your credit card transactions. Fraud is unfortunately a fact of life these days.

As a follow-up to my message above, after contacting my credit card company I called PayPal at the 402-935-7733 to report this transaction.  I was told my credit card number had indeed been used by someone else's account and they had already flagged this transaction for investigation as possible fraud.  So, good job PayPal on being even faster than me catching this fraud.

Charge appeared on my Visa statement for $50.00 and was a fraudulent charge that I did not make or authorize. We called the telephone number on 11/18/2011 and they were not able to provide any details but asked me for my Visa number, which I did not give them. I then had to call my Visa card holder and report this charge so I could get the charge removed.

I received a phone call from phone (402) 935-7733 claiming to be from Paypal . wanting me to give my full email address before the conversation proceeded to confirm who I am. I said I wasn't comfortable giving that to someone I had no way of verifying was really from Paypal. He gave me the tail end (domain name) of my email address "if that helps." I said I still didn't have any way of verifying he was from Paypal or that this wasn't a scam. "Well, then I'm going to be unable to discuss with you what I intended to discuss with you."

Sorry.  If that's the best he can do, I have no reason to trust him.  He's wanting to verify who I am, when I have no way of verifying who he is?  Fishy at the outset.  The number may well turn up on paperwork that really comes from Paypal, but I'm guessing there is a way for scammers to spoof the phone number they're calling from just as they can spoof email addresses to make them seem they're coming from Paypal, or even your best friend.
