I received one today and I  am not late on a payment. The lady wanted me to confirm my address, home, cell and work phone number.  I turned around and tried to call the phone number back. When I did, I received a recorded message that the phone number is not a working number.

This number keeps calling my phone and never leaves a message they call sometimes three times a day. If I don't know the number I don't answer and if there is no message I can't call back.

That number is the collections department of Citi. I'm like 4 years behind with them, so it's no surprise that they're raging mad at me. But, why do they call themselves "Citibank University"? Odd name indeed. Once you get as deliquent as me, then the gloves are off. Arrest warrants and such start getting into the picture. I might even go to federal prison before this is over. Which makes me wonder. If I end up going to the can, how do they expect to get paid at that point?

Actually you cannot go to jail for being in debt. The only time they can arrest you is if they issue you a subpeona for court and you don't show up. THEN they can arrest you but that's because you didn't show for a mandatory hearing, not for being in debt.

Like all collections departments, citibank university is a low down bunch. Yeah, I haven't paid them in 4 years, but to threaten jail time? WTF? As soon as they bring up jail, they are in violation of the law. But, try telling them that.

how about you all just pay your bills.  They wouldn't have to keep calling if you paid your bill on time.

This is a debt collector for citicard. In this case for HP. On top of the tight money situation in this country, they give you a speach like if you were their kid. They call all day long, and you are not safe in the weekends

I checked and I am up to date with my payments so I am not sure why they would be calling me. Today is the first call that I have received. I answered but as I did not recognize the number I said I was not in and offered to take a message.

Citibank University is also the people who administer the Home Depot credit cards.  I had some purchases questioned as to their validity (and they were), so be aware, they aren't just calling for debt collections!
