Please go through the legitimate website like homeaway.com to find short-term rentals in NYC (you will see the real price of the real NYC apartment...not $50, $65, or even $100). We as a property owner had to go through a lot of paper works to proof that we really own the place. That's a good thing for you, the renter. Please...if it's too good to be true, it's probably not. Use your common sense!

This is a scam! Avoid it at all costs!!!

I am based in NYC and was trying to find a short-term apartment for someone else. Yes, as people have said they are scams. I got responses from Jane Synovec and Andrew Mcintosh. I googled Synovec and found it was a scam. I then checked the email Long Header - where you see all the information about where the email has come from - the first !P adress - the lowest down in square brackets [ ] is the IP address of the sender - I googled their IPs - they are both based in Lagos, Nigeria. I wonder if the money is being picked up there rather than in the US. Synovec also apparently uses legitimate holiday rental web sites as well as Craigslist - so be very careful. Do not send money via MONEYGRAM or WUNION. Asa  guide most holiday rentals will start at $1500 pw  in Manhattan - for a place way uptown, JT

same here, transferred 350$ to the accountant money of Sherri Gordon, a few days ago. Havent heard from here since, and the money has been taken already.
But then i wonder, why doesnt craigslist remove Sherri Gordon and all those others from their site.
Or are those people just able to post again and again on the list?

adding myself to the long list of ppl scammed by janina richardson, cynthia moore, jeff gibbson, wayne kelvin. as soon as they mentioned wiring money I told them I was no longer interested. glad someone else caught onto them too.

Thankfully I was about to give over the western union transfer money number to NICHOLARS SMITH but got to this website first. Thank GOD I didn't transfer any money, his apartment was too much of a deal @ $45 a night. Don't trust this guy. He also seems very professional and trusting too, talking very intelligently and answering any questions. DO NOT GET AN APARTMENT with this guy on craigslist!!

same here, got an answer from a guy supposedly called Brian Williams for a studio loft in Manhattan for $100. Sounded anyway too good to be true. As suggested above, I checked the IP address location from the email longer header. The sender IP adress was 41.138.185.147, from Lagos, Nigeria (You can use this website to check: http://en.utrace.de/). Also received an answer from a Cynthia Justin, same trick, this time from Malaisia (175.137.77.231).
HowTo check for yourself:
- open the 'longer header' of the received e-mail (you can probably find how on the web)
- copy the last IP address in the header. Will look like:

Received: from [41.138.185.147] by web112811.mail.gq1.yahoo.com via HTTP; (+date)
X-Mailer: YahooMailClassic/11.2.4 YahooMailWebService/0.8.105.277674

- paste the IP address to http://en.utrace.de/, and be amazed at the result and relieved a previous poster suggested this way of exposing the scammers...

its 3619 miller road, Los Lunas, NM 87031-8872. i know someone who was a victim of this scammer and he lives in New Mexico, he recently has gone by Cynthia Justin. He pretends to be an unsuspecting female and uses his own identity to cash the checks.

A word to the wise: Never NEVER wire funds via Western Union or MoneyGram as payment for anything advertised on Craigslist (or eleswhere online, for that matter). On every page Craigslist includes the following warning: "Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! Beware any arrangement involving Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, or a landlord/owner who is out of the country or cannot meet you in person."

The apartment deposit scam is very common. Anyone you encounter online who asks you to pay for something via a wire transfer service is a scam artist, and the odds of you recovering your money are very slim.

We almost got scammed too...can't believe I was so naive! I got the same email from Sherri Gordon!! I think in this case definitely if it sounds too good to be true then it definitely is!! I am only going to book from a reputable company/agency from now on and I will be very wary about using craigslist again! Thanks for this post (a friend pointed it out...I am soooo glad!!).

I recently stayed here and found the space to be perfect for my four-day business excursion. The Apartment was arranged beautifully with enough space to entertain guests, a great patio area, nice bedroom and even a moderately stocked fridge (a bonus). The roomer were immaculate and the owners were wonderful

—pleasant and accommodating. A fan of the Manhattan NY, this rental goes to the top of my list of places to stay when traveling to Midtown. Highly recommended
