- Pizzer| 1 replyThey are a real piece of work, they buy old charged off debits and then call your entire family and threaten them to try to get to you. I do owe the debit I make no excuses for that. I can not pay, no job, no savings, no money. They talk big but can not back up anything that they say. They can not even keep their story straight when you ask them for details or to verify the debit. They didn't want to tell me where they were located, I told them that if they called my family again I would go to their office with a bat and clock the person making the calls. They did not like that much. If you work with this company they will screw you! they will offer a settlement on the phone but not put it in writing! DO NOT PAY ANYTHING OR AGREE TO ANYTHING WITHOUT IT IN WRITING!!!!!!!!!!

- bob replies to PizzerIf you are judgment proof-- no assets, no wages to garnish, no checking account to seize, just don't pay them anything at all. If they know you are judgment proof, they probably won't file a lawsuit at all. Even if they did file a lawsuit, they couldn't get anything. It would just cost them money.
Hang up on them when they call. Get caller I.D. and don't answer the phone when someone calls with a number you don't recognize. Ask your relatives to do the same thing.
My relatives know I have problems with debt collectors, so they are not surprised when they get phone calls from them. They just hang up the phone on them and go about their business.
Most debt collectors rely on being able to talk to debtors on the phone and get them to voluntarily pay their bills over the phone. If every debtor in the United States would simply stop talking to debt collectors on the phone, most of them would go out of business very quickly. The debtors who voluntarily pay collection agencies are the people who keep them in business and in fact encourage these practices to continue operating. Calling people on the phone is cheap, easy, and unfortunately too effective. Just imagine how much harder it would be for a debt collector if no one spoke to them on the phone? That's what they hate the most-- being hung up on-- because then there is absolutely no chance of an easy payday for them. - Bob replies to lIZARDNo they don't use their real names. Back in the early 1990s when I had credit cards charged off, they would sometimes use their real names, and I would look them up in the phone book in Phoenix, and call them at home. One time I called a man named Scott on his home phone number and I got his wife on the phone, and I told her how I didn't appreciate getting phone calls from her husband, and she was scared. Within 5 minutes, I got a phone call from Scott at work with a shaky voice screaming at me to never call his home phone number again and to never speak to his wife again. I said, well how do you like getting phone calls at home you ****, and he never called me again. That particular collection agency never called me again. This is why they never use their real names.
- BOB replies to ex husbands debtI have yet to hear from anyone saying they are actually being sued by this fake law firm. They huff and they puff and they try to blow your house down, but they are full of sh*t.
- AcctinTXThis is a debt collector for Bank of America. It is a scam involving overdraft protection fees that people aren't even aware of, and I'm sure there will be a class action lawsuit against Bank of America very soon. Lawyers love this kind of stuff. Unfortunately, my daughter in college became a victim. I told the debt collector if Bank of America could produce a contract that my daughter signed that allowed these fees, we would pay the debt. Of course, that never happened because my daughter never agreed to, signed, nor knew of the fees until the call from the "law firm". The credit agencies will erase this from a credit report if there is no signed contract. I advise anyone that has been victimized by Bank of America in this way to contact an attorney and their credit reporting agencies.

The settled for less mark on the credit sure beats a charge off and atleast he can get other loans as a result of paying it. Unreal. People sit around and talk about ways to not pay a bill they owe?? i DONT GET IT.
- Linda Young| 1 replyPlease stop calling my house for Terry L Young Jr. #859-879-9756.
He does not live here and I don't know where he is. - SWThey requested two unknown names. I returned their call to inform them that no persons are at the number. They were extremely rude and unprofessional. They are far from human beings. I request that they stop calling but said they would not remove my number from the system.

- IzofgreneI was making good money until my husband found another woman and divorced me, leaving me a single mother and a with drastically reduced income. I had my truck re-possessed. After several years, when I got back on my feet, I decided to pay off that debt that had originally been with Bank of America. Apparently, the Law Offices of Joe Pezzuto had bought my loan, as I had received a letter from them. Of course, over the last few years, I had received calls from various edebt collectors, which I ignored. I called the law office three months ago, arranged to settle for 50% off the original loan, and agreed to call back and pay that specified amount if I received a fax stating our agreement. I received the fax the next day, so I called and made my payment. They were pleasant and everything went according to plan except for two things: 1) I had asked for a letter stating they had received my payment and they were sending a letter to the credit burueas stating stating I had settled my account. I never received that letter, after two requests. 2) I am still getting collection letters from the original creditor regarding that repossesed truck. I have an appointment tomorrow at my finance office to get a copy of my credit report to see if that account is being reported as settled. If not, I am filing a dispute.

- ultra_violet replies to ELLIE"There is always ways"
Do I have your permission to put that ridiculousness on a t-shirt?? The money will go to a legal fund to help harassed people sue bottom-feeder 3rd party debt collectors.
Oh, and I'm putting "measley" on the back of the tee.
Thanks, Ellie. Kisses! - Texas| 1 replyDoes no one know anything about debt collections at all. Do a little research before you pay these bottom feeding debt collectors. They let you pay a lot less than what you owed because they have already been paid by the original creditor to collect the debt. Anything they get from you is pure profit for them. If you were so willing to pay the debt to them why didn't you just contact the original creditor and settle with them? The last time I checked it's not against the law to not pay your debts. YOU CANNOT BE ARRESTED FOR NOT PAYING YOUR CREDIT CARD DEBT!!! That's a scare tactic and it is extremely against the law for them to threaten you in that manner. Google "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" and get educated on this if you want to stop the harrassment.
- RECORDINGWhen I called there they said they record their calls. So I'm reading a lot of these notes and the info from a lot of people. I'm wondering how they would be in business if what is being said is true. That's probably why they still in business and most if not all of the people here really have no clue.

- amy replies to ex husbands debt| 2 repliesthey are not allowed to garnish your wages by law. my father is a lawyer so i know and my mother in law is a collections agent. The only people allowed to garnish your wages are the IRS and if its for child support. Otherwise they have to send you a lot of paper work first, and take you to court, which they are not going to do cause it will cost them more money to fly you where they want you to go. Or to come to you.
- LizYes, I get calls from these people about 6 -7 times a day. Not only at home, but at work, and my father as well who I haven't lived with in over 7 years. Its embarrassing!!
