James Bernard is trying to reach my ex-husband's wife.  This is the 2nd call in a month.  Have explained I don't know how to reach them and I have nothing to do with them.

Got a message on my work phone in Honolulu, HI. It was a female caller on behalf of J. P. lawfirm. Guess they are trying to collect for someone's name that I did not even recognize (no one I know and it pisses me off that they have my work number, there is no way I will be picking this one up).

This number 602-274-9911 called my home today.  Did not answer the call.  They rang my number at least 12 times before hanging up.  Caller ID said "Pezzulto-Joe Law".

He just called me and left a message - making fun of my first name and started laughing so hard he had to hang up.  Ediot.

Continue to call and will not give reason for call, very rude.

They can't garnish your wages for unsecured debt... you really shouldn't have listened to the dumb [***]...  They think they can bully people around, but they really are just organized crime!

Just had a message from this same company.  Trying to get contact info for my ex mother in law.  Don't know how I would even show up as a skip trace connected to her. I could be vindictive and call them with her info, but it really isn't my place to deal with her creditors.

Most likely the individual you spoke to is not an attorney.  You spoke to an agent who works for a third party collector and they are paying to use the attorney's name.  You may get sued and have a judgement against you but they cannot throw anyone in jail for failure to pay a debt.  They can garnish wages or attach bank accounts once they have the judgement.  In fact it is a violation of the FDCPA to make such a threat.  If you'll notice none of the threats come in writing because it's tougher to prove.  Go to the FTC web site and file a complaint.  Send them a certified letter stating you want them to cease and desist.  It won't stop them from taking legal action but they must now quit calling and or writing.

I can always tell when someone from an agency posts here.  You are very quick to pass judgement on people and yet the industry does not feel the need to give full disclosure.  The person is correct.  It will still negatively impact their credit.  The may habe to pay taxes on the difference via a 1099.  If you're going to berate someone as a "Professional Debtor", be willing to give full disclosure.

No need to identify yourself as a collector your note gives it away.  You're right about skip tracing of course.  Now tell the whole truth.  You can only contact a third party once unless they give you permission to do so and who's going to do that?  You talk about settlement and yet you don't disclose it's stil ahit on their credit and they may end up payin gtaxes on the difference.  There's so much more but you think you're so smart it wouldn't do to expose your nonsens any further

You want them to stop?  Tell them you want proof of the debt.  They must by law stop trying to contact you until they provide that proof.  You want them to stop contacting you?  Send a certified letter of cease and desist.  Are they contacting friends and relatives?  FDCPA says only one contact with a third party unless that third party says they may contact them again.  They may not threaten any kind of action they cannot take such as throwing you in jail and they may not threaten you with any action which is legal but they do not intend to take. To be fair they can sue you and then start garnishment.  The courts are so full of these kind of actions it will take months.  If you feel you are being harrased threatened or otherwise abused by the agency,go to the FTC web site and file a complaint.  Additionally there are law firms out there which live for this kind of thing.  If you have a legitimate gripe, they usually take your case at no cost to you because they can ask for their fees to be paid by the agencies they are suing on your behalf.  Come on people! Fight Back!  Know your rights and GOOGLE the FDCPA regulations.

Some [***] lawyer from the same firm did the same thing to me.  You would think that Law school taught him how to listen to an answering machine to determine they weren't calling the right person.

Basically, this is the 2nd time they've called me.  For a debt that I owe, or did owe, not sure which.  I took out one of those "un-secured loans" AKA, Cash Advance, a few years back during some rough times.  I paid most of them off, just don't remember which ones.  So far, they've been unable (or unwilling) to provide me with a contract of the original loan.  They keep saying "it was done online, so there is no contract".

Until they can provide me with adequate proof of debt, I'm going to ignore their calls.  My credit is already horrible from my stupid teen years.  It can't get much worse, it can only get better.  When/If I come across this on my CC report, I'll deal with it then.  For the time being, it isn't there.

You are aware they aren't REALLY lawyers that call... There is one attorney and I'm not sure if he's currently licensed in Arizona to Practice Law.  Otherwise, when they ask when a person will be home and you state they are out of the country for a month, they state they will call back continually and daily for the month the person is out of the country.  That's obvious harassment, they would know under the fdcpa they aren't allowed to harass or be degrading or to call at inconvenient times, etc...

thank god she paid the bill though
