Some other interesting information:  Meade and Associates were the only debt collection agency to express an interest in pursuing the parents of school aged children, who hadn't fully paid their lunch fees.

Bought it in 1998 for $220,000, with an estimated mortgage of $1,055 a month.  Estimated current value is about $284,000.  Some appreciation there, congrats Brian!

The first time they called, I was at the mall. The woman immediately said "I am collecting your debt, how are you paying today?" To which I said, "...who is this??" She said she was calling for "medical debt" and I must pay her today, how was I going to pay? I asked for more information and said I'd like to call the hospital directly, especially since this company had an address on file that is over 4 years old and under my maiden name! Very sketchy. She started to give me a long acct number but as I was walking around the mall, I did not have a pen. I explained this and said I would call back later when I was able to write something down. She demanded my current mailing address. As I still did not know if this was legitimate, I said I would like to contact the hospital directly. She hung up on me. I called back later and spoke with someone named Sherry. She again immediately told me that I owed them money and what is my credit card number? I asked for my account number very politely and as she started to say it, the phone broke up and I asked her if she could repeat that first. Instead of repeating it, she said, "Ma'am! Ma'am! Do NOT interrupt me!! You are NOT to interrupt me!!" And I was like..."Okay." I got the account number from her and again, she asked for my credit card number. I said that I would be contacting the hospital directly as I do not know what this company is. She said that she is going to send it to my credit report and then when I said that I would be happy to pay once I contacted the actual hospital, she hung up on. I called back because that is INCREDIBLY rude. Before I could even say anything, the employee (who may have been a different one) said the mandatory legal shpeel about trying to collect a debt then said my name and said that I have to give her my credit card information to pay for this bill. I instead asked for a supervisor. After a while of her arguing that she would not send me to a supervisor, she (supposodly) did. I informed the supposed supervisor that I found Sherry to be incredibly rude and that she hung up on me, in addition the person I just spoke with was equally rude. The supposed supervisor (I believe he said his name was Justin or Josh) berated me for not minding my own business, how dare I get in the middle of his relationship with his employees and if I did not want to pay my bill then he could not help me. I asked to be transferred to HIS supervisor and was told there was no one. I said that a voicemail would be fine. He said that if I would not pay this bill, he could not help me. Then HE hung up on me!!! I then contacted the hospital and handled it all through them. For some reason the hospital had an address on file that I had not lived at in 4 years and did not live at during the time the service took place. I never received the bill. The end. Anyway, all that berating and rudeness for a $25 bill?? That's TWENTY-FIVE, not $250000! I didn't even have an issue with paying, can't imagine how these people would treat someone who had massive medical bills and dire financial straights. Meade and Associates disgusts me. They are predatory. Shame on EVERYONE who works at this company and equal shame to the organizations that contract these people.

They have violated the FDCPA in many ways, and you are entitled by that law to sue them for the harassment they put you through.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Remember it is incumbent upon them to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it.  Not the other way around.

Note the BBB complaints seem to indicate that they want the debtor to prove they don’t owe the bill, in violation of the FDCPA which requires them to prove that the bill is valid and actually owed.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

They just called and asked for my ex-daughter in law.  When I explained she is an ex, not living at my address or having my phone number the man, who was nice, said he would update their info.  Told him she has been giving my name, address and phone # to ALL her creditors.  Asked him again to remove all my info from her file.  Hope it works.

I just got a call from them concerning a debt with a hospital for my daughter. It is Meade and associates. The lady I talked to was professional, answered the call with "meade and associates". I took care of my debt and that was it.

I called Meade & Associates back after numerous calls from them. They never left a message and I had never received a letter from them in attempt to settle my almost insignificant claim. I have to say as annoyed as I was with receiving these calls, they actually weren't rude at all when I called back. I did owe the money and I paid it with no problems.

I am actually offended by this comment. You have no idea the struggles some people have. I am trying to fix my debt. i do not have the money right this second but I want to pay this back. I am not buying cigarettes, movies, and so on. I am buying groceries (so my family can eat) and pull ups and things that are needed. Just had to do an oil change for my car or I could not have gone to work to make money to pay them back. Not everyone is doing that. I have had a debt collector before tell me that they do not care if I did not have the money. Burrow money from someone. So not every company is willing to work with you.

They call me on my cell and my work! Very rude!

I received seven calls from them today on my work cell phone. I told them they had the wrong person and they didn't believe me. They asked that I give someone a message and I told them I do not know the person. Her reply, "we will find her." and hung up.

These people are rude, and call from several different numbers it is illegal to harrass someone during thier work hours! Period! I've had one law suit with a collection agaency, so I know how this works! STOP CALLING ME!

These people just called me asking for someone I do not know and basically called me a liar.  I have had the same no.for over 30 years.  If I get another call I will seek harassment charges. Then will see who has to pay

Meade and Associates need to be shut down. I dont owe them [***] and they keep calling for 3 different people with automated messages with no option to stop them. Call them back and tell them to stop they always just hang up.. And keep calling and calling .  sometimes late at night and sometime 4 in the f#cking morning. They are unlawful at the point of harrassment. They need shut down!!!  Awful awful group of crooked lawyers running a shotty 2 bit operation now that I have researched their history. They buy out peoples hospital bills that are in a bad place in their life for pennies on the dollar then harass people  Screw Meade and Assos. Hope they all get burned in a fire. The fires of hell. Because they are evil. Besides that I am ready to SUE them.

They constantly call to harass me. I called them one time to get my account number to pay off a small medical bill - i paid it online and now they are still calling me constantly. Trying to tell me my money didnt go through when it did. They call from several numbers actually.

If you researched their history then you know they do not buy debt, but are collecting for medical facilities! FYI their office is closed from 8pm to 8am m-th and closes at 4:30 on fri, ALL this information is fact! GOOD luck with that law suit, Mr. doesn't know fact from fiction

History of questionable debt collection practices on 800notes.  Threats, telephone harassment, refusal to ID themselves.  Calling, never leaving a message.  Extraordinarily rude employee/callers..  Calling and giving personal information to co-workers.  Seem to specialize in medical collections.  Often their information is incorrect and they call the wrong parties.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
