Interesting story!
Unfortunately, there may still be some problems:
1) Some NON computer savvy folks might think a regular restore point will undo any damage the bad guys caused.  It won't.
2) If your virtual machine was not totally isolated from your other processes, there might still be some interaction between the bad guy and your data.

For any lurkers who encountered this scam ....

Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised the ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused

What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1.  Pull the cables on the computer, so it cannot access the internet.
2.  Change ALL  passwords stored on the computer
3.  Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4.  Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything
5.  Inform your bank and credit card companies
6.  Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7.  You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
8.  Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you
9.  Plug in the computer only AFTER all the above have been done
10.  Change the passwords on all online accounts.  Even better - access a "safe", uninfected  computer, and chance your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.

Just got a call from 716-200-4864. Mike asked for me by name which was a little strange. I just hung up on him. Tried to call the number back and no answer.

Got a call twice from this guy Indian accent said calling about windows computer guy sounding like an idiot don't answer next time it's a scam!!!

I got a call from these clowns and knew it was a scam right away and had some fun with them as well. I called them liars, evil, shameful thieves and said I hope they spend their next life as a bug. Nothing! , They just got louder and more insistent that I should just press some keys, and let them access my computer, and fix my computer. By the time they hung up on me, the fee went from free to $250.00 and they passed me from Mike to David to Ryan and back to David"

I imagine that if they call 10,000 people, at least 100 will bite.

Just got a call from this number same  story as others  according to him "your computers is showing a lot of errors and some one is hacking into your computer"  I asked him where he was calling from and he replied from San Diego California.   I then asked him if he meant San Diego Arizona.  He wasn't sure.   This won't eliminate him from calling again but you can sure have some fun. I once convinced a caller who said he was calling from Charlotte  North Carolina that he meant Pennsylvania .

Got this same call on ll/20.  Same message

got a call from a heavy accented guy saying my computer is sending him messages.When I got belligerent with him by asking him what the f--- are you talking about, he hung up on me.

Just received a call from this number. Just like the others, it was a male voice with a thick accent claiming to be from a help desk. After asking him to repeat himself, I hung up...

Scum scammer trash are still at it

Got a call from this number around 12:15 today. I immediately recognized it as a scam, not having anything to due today, i decided to take up as much of his time as possible. After about 20 minutes of I can't understand you, I don't know what you mean, what is a windows key, what is Google, he got ticked-off and threatened to burn down my house, made derogatory remarks about 911, and to burn down America. Mentioning Ben Laden in his tirade. Does anyone have a link to report him to Homeland Security.

Received this call, no conversation then a goodbye from a recording.

Just like the others, received a call from this number regarding my computer and Microsoft software.  I listened awhile and then hung-up.  

Got the same,   on do not call list,  second time I told him
I don't have a  windows system and maybe he should go back to india or pakistan and mate with a  mule.   30 min later he called back.   Knowing it would be fun , I answered...   He told me    "  right now I am F--king your mother and wife"   I replied "   as my mother is dead you are very sick.....maybe I could interest you in one of my hogs"      Sadly he hung up.     Time to have fun with them...  too bad that there are soooooo many morons that fall for it..

I too received a call from this number.Heavy accent saying he was with Windows. He said my computer has been hacked.haha I messed with him for a bit. I spoke loudly and said someone needs to help me.He said it would cost me $159. to fix. haha After messing with him a few minutes and letting him think I couldn't find the keys on the keyboard,and acting really stupid I had enough fun so I let him have it.Cussing him out and all.haha He couldn't take it, he hanged up. haha Have a little fun with these people. They'll get the idea we are not as stupid as they think and take you off their list. haha

I too have some fun with the scammers when they call. haha It makes the reason to answer these calls a reason to have some fun and turn the tables for a change.haha

I get this call a lot, sometimes once or twice per day and the same scam as everyone else. Would love to block it but sometimes they use different numbers. You would think there would be a way to stop this one. Hanging up, or talking with them, or yelling at them to take you off of their list, does not stop them. So frustrating!!

I've received repeated unwanted calls regarding my computer from 1-716-200-4864 New York Asian female accent!
I said "take your scam down the road" and the line went dead
I said "NO" and the line went dead!

I had some lady call me with trying to get me to update my computer an they had called me everyday for atleast two weeks calling unknown  an i finally picked it up with my boyfriend an we both realized it was a scam right off the bat an he had her on the phone for 20 mins just totally messing off with her I was dying laughing and after 20 mins she hung up lmaoo haven't got a call since ;)
