Today I received a phone call from the "774-221-8770" stating that they (National Legal Corporation) were going to post a protection order on me, and that I should forward the message to my attorney. The caller did not specify their name, or location, which is standard protocol for a law office.  First of all, I traced the number to in, or around Auburn, MA. It is a cell phone number! But I was unable to find out at the time what cell phone network provider was being used. I know no one from Auburn Massachusetts, and was perplexed by the stupidity of the phone call/ message. I live in WV, and if someone (s) wanted to file suit against me for any reason, which ever district said person (s) filed said claim would forward it to my local jurisdiction, thus resulting in me being served by a law enforcement official from my community. This is true for everyone everywhere. I was stressing out about this ordeal all freakin day, but I am glad to find that the call/ message holds no merit. I would advise anyone who receives a call, or message to contact your local law enforcement agency, and at the very least file some sort of complaint. As of now, I know not the intention of the person (s) who made the call. If it is supposed to be some sort of prank I did not find it amusing in the least. My only guess is that they were going to try to extort money from me, for they said that I only had 24-48 hours to settle the claim; also nothing in the court systems anywhere ever move that fast.. God forbid  they get a hold of a Senior Citizen and try this routine. They had my grandmother fooled and upset, Senior Citizens are full of an abundance of knowledge, but are often times too trusting. I would like to state for the record that I am not an attorney, or  associated with any position pertaining to an attorney. However I would advise that no one give any information whatsoever to the caller (s) if they would happen to catch a live person on the line i.e. Birthrate, address, alternate addresses, or banking information. I realize that no one would probably be so foolish, however you never know.

this was the same name on my caller ID Edna Chaney..they left a message not only at my home # but also at my mom's house in another city.pretty much the same thing as everyone elses..civil investigation, restraining order involved..very careful not to say it was against me..24-48 hrs to respond..

This is not the first time a bogus threat has been made, but instead of me it is a family member.  They said civil suit and restraining order. I immediately pushed 1 for a connection to a person instead it hung up.  Then went and googled it and found out it was a scam!!!  Wish I could turn them in and stop calls designed to scare people.

called both at my home and my mothers who doesn't even live in the same city..stated they were with the civil investigations unit..making it sound as though they were law enforcement
that i was a respondent in a civil case where a restraining order was involved...sounded very official..had 24-48 hours to respond..
this was very upsetting to my elderly mother...and me too..
Emma Chaney is listed on caller ID...why can't something be done about this...there seems to be numerous complaints on this number......i don't like people messing with my mom..plus we are both on do not call lists..

Scam Phone Call wanted information.

I, too, received an automated call from 744-221-8770 at 8:20 this morning. The "threat" of a restraining order within 48 hours and my former son-in-law or his attorney were to contact a certain number was the same as previous writers.
They hit someone today who really didn't care about their message! However, I do care about what they are trying to do!!! I agree that it should be reported to authorities to try to get this stopped.

It's none of these things. Civil suits, debt threats, restraining orders, all these things can be handled and fought by their respective protocols. I've been coerced into a different situation, next week they'll be calling it something else, something it isn't, and there's nothing I can do. I forget your face. This is a real problem.

Emma Chaney called with a message threatening legal action with regard to a restraining order.  The message said I must appear in court. There were no  instructions except to get an attorney. I tried to return the call to  tell them they had a wrong number, but got a recording saying the mailbox was full.  
I WILL BLOCK THIS NUMBER FROM ANY FURTHER CALLS.

I recieved this exact message as well as my mother today !? I spoke with a man that refused to give me his name, refused to verify any of my information was rude as heck told me I owed 1974.34 today ...  and told me I would be served  soon to an address that I do not live really what the heck ? He went on about a restraining order against my bank account, granishment of wages etc etc I told him I would call back before 7 pm tonight as I have gotten no answer.. crazy crazy I knew I didnt owe a credit card debt and the name he was calling me was not correct !!! how can these people get away with this ?

We have tried numerous times to return a call to this number, it appears to be false. The message is very threatening!

got a call saying I had a restraning order on me never done anything in my life then got a call from them saying and pay up my credit card I hagainave a prepaid card that I know its fake

pending court action on my business line,...not for me but very aggravating.
I will notify other federal agencies.

I retrieved a message on my cell this morning from # above 774-221-8770- civil investigation unit informing me that a complaint was filed against me for what appeared to be a restraining order referencing a claim #. The name of the person on the message sounded like a Cheryl L Dodd (as near as I can intrepret but could be wrong).  No extension # given!  The message also indicated I had been named as a respondant in a court action suit, that I must appear and had 24-48 hours for me or my attorney to oppose the cause.  My 1st reaction was they called the wrong # as I couldn't imagine who would be filing a restraining order against me.  It seemed odd but was alarming enough for me to investigate this matter.  I made multiple calls to # above and repeately got responses that mail box is full, cannot receive new messages and to call back later.  At one point I got message to hold for next available agent, stayed on call for about 10 minutes, was finally transferred somewhere but phone line kept ringing and ringing with no response so I finally hung up.  It is also noteworthy to mention that when you call # above it gives several options....option 2 is if you received a call regarding a pending legal matter (option I was using), option 3 is if you want to settle a claim in lieu of court action and option 4 is if you know your parties extension.....(as indicated no ext # given).  Option 1,2 & 3 indicate mail box is full.  I became very suspicious and went on line to get info on company name below and found all this information indicating a potential scam.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Has to be a hoax.  I actually held on for an hour on speaker phone while I did something else, just to test it out.  The authorities should have this number and put a stop to this.  To call and scare people with legal threats is unwarranted.  Besides, legal cases are not filed over the phone.

Ditto!  I got the same message a few days ago.  I have had this call before several months ago.  They are all scams.

I've received this called twice this week.  Same as everybody else civil action involving a restraining order.  Traced the call to Auburn MA listed as a landline.  Never talked to anybody when I called them back.

They're still at it. I got another call today, about 3:45PM. If they want to continue spending their money on toll calls, they're welcome. Caller ID is a wonderful feature, and I use it to determine who I will talk to, and who won't have that luxury.
