- Carol ScottKeeps repeatedly calling my phone
- Jeremy replies to Linda| 2 repliesHi, I just got a call from that number after attempting an online purchase. I didn't enter any info because I didn't recognize the number and because it was automated (Figured it was another scam call). I called 1-888-PNC-BANK and solved my issue. She also said the number is a PNC number for Card Fraud, so it's not a scam, but she did recommend calling the main PNC number as I did. So anyone else who quickly types in a number while it's ringing like I did, just call the main PNC number to sort it out!
- Stolmjust had a call form this number, robocaller, speaking in Chinese??
- Caller: Chinese scammers
- Call type: Unwanted
- TresaTHIS IS NOT PNC even though it is their fraud number. Do not give pin on the IVR as they suggest so they can send new card, or address and zipcode etc, even though they have it and will repeat back to you. I went to PNC to validate if it were real. They confirmed that was their fraud number but also confirmed they did NOT call. Not even a foreign voice. Do not fall for this, go straight to your local branch. They almost got me! They have called several more times in the past month.

- Erik Butzek| 9 repliesThis IS PNC's loss prevention. I've been a customer for about 5 years and have dealt with this a few times - usually when I have a new card or when I'm out of town. This is 100% legit, and I'm stunned how many people here could cluelessly be calling it a scam....?
- Caller: PNC
- Call type: Valid
- Tygerkat replies to Erik ButzekI'm stunned that you've never heard of phone number spoofing. I'm also stunned that you bothered to look up a known phone number.
- BigA replies to Erik Butzek| 7 replies
Then there would have been absolutely no reason for you to look the number up. Unless of course you are the lying scumbag scammer making these calls.Quote:I've been a customer for about 5 years and have dealt with this a few times - JP replies to BigA| 6 repliesAgreed! The number might belong to PNC but it is being spoofed! I knew something was up when I went to a local gas station’s air pump to fill up a tire. When I swiped my car it said “transaction declined, try different card.” Never in my life have a seen a machine ask me to try a different card. Not more than a few hours later I get the call from this number with the same story, asking them to enter my billing zip. That’s when I hung up. They called again a few hours later but I didn’t answer and they left a voicemail. That’s how I know it’s definitely a spoofed number - when the phone rang, the number showed up. But the voicemail on my phone screen says “Unknown” rather than the number. I’ve checked my account multiple times and nothing fishy on there because I stopped them. I think if they call again, I’ll enter a completely incorrect billing zip and see what happens...
- Tygerkat replies to JP| 2 repliesAir pumps take credit cards now? And how does one refusing your card connect to this phone number being spoofed?
- JP replies to Tygerkat| 1 replyThey have for years! Where have you been 😂 And with the quarantine I haven’t gone out in weeks/ used my card in weeks but suddenly the one day I do, this happens! Funny! When I called the police to report it, they said I was the second one this week and that they were sending officers out. Seems like a thief installed a device on the card reader that gets the info.
- MikeHuntleton replies to JP| 2 replies
Seems a bit far-fetched, as how would they know your phone number to call from just a credit card insertion into a scam device? If you did actually get an alert from trying to use your card, it would have been from the actual fraud alert notification system, not a scammer. Those skimmer devices don't gather your personal info or details of your account, only the card number to authorize transactions.Quote:Not more than a few hours later I get the call from this number with the same story, asking them to enter my billing zip.
Now you said there was nothing fishy on your account, so it couldn't have been from them either.
Story itself sounds fishy if you ask me..... - JP replies to MikeHuntleton| 1 replySorry you feel that way! Was just trying to share my story so others don’t also get scammed!
- MikeHuntleton replies to JPNothing wrong with sharing a story, but when it doesn't sound right, it gets questioned. After 21 pages, I doubt it will make much difference anyway. I am just pointing out how it doesn't quite work the way you told it.
- Tygerkat replies to JPOur local air pumps take quarters. And you still didn't explain how you connected this phone number to that incident.
- Not ImportantThis is a scam!!! They say they are pnc loss prevention...They are not if you block the # they have a program to override the block do not be fooled!!!
- Caller: Scammer
