- Kate| 1 replyThe call I received was legitimate. I had just purchased a computer, which spurred suspicion I guess. The automated call asked me to confirm my zip code, which I did, then it stated the purchase location and dollar amount, and asked me to press 1 to confirm I had made/authorized the purchase. They didn't ask for my card #, SS #, or any other private information. In my case, the call was authentic.
- Caller: PNC
- IJ| 1 replyIt is a scam, I was just on the phone with PNC. This is not one of their numbers.
- Steve in Seattle| 1 replyThis is NOT a scam. Repeat, it is NOT a scam! This is PNC Bank's card fraud department. They called me to confirm whether there were fraudulent charges on my PNC Debit card. Not only did they know my full card number before I gave it to them, they also accessed my debit card charges to confirm that they were real.
- Caller: PNC Bank
- Steve in Seattle replies to IJEither you were not on the phone with PNC or the person you talked to is an idiot. I just got off the phone with this number and it IS PNC Bank's Card Fraud department. They were able to access my Debit card charges directly to confirm whether they were legit. This is NOT a scam!
- not Michael replies to Steve in SeattleIf in doubt call the bank's 24-hour fraud line. The phone number is on the back of your credit card and on your bank and/or credit card statement.
- Steve in Seattle replies to Chase| 32 repliesNOT, NOT, NOT a scam!!! This is PNC Bank's Card fraud hotline. I just got off the phone with this exact number and it IS PNC Bank. They were calling to confirm charges on my Debit card that triggered their fraud protection system. We were able to confirm that the charges were legit. They already knew all my info and did not ask for any personal identifying information. Repeat, this is NOT a scam!!!
- Sir Bedevere replies to Steve in Seattle| 7 repliesEven if this is a legit PNC phone number it may still may be a scam because criminals can fake their Caller ID information (it's called "spoofing") — in other words, both scam calls AND legitimate calls may come from this number (or appear to).
If you get a call from this or any other number about problems with your bank account or credit card you should HANG UP immediately and call your bank using the number on the back of your credit card. - Steve in Seattle replies to Sir Bedevere| 3 repliesCriminals can't fake access is my banking transaction information. And if they already have access - which the person at this number did - then they have no reason to call me. It's called common sense. People should try using it.
- whoami| 1 replywhoever is claiming that this is legit is either part of the scam or they got scammed and didnt know any better i just called pnc after getting a call from this number, i found it suspicious so i called 1800 PNC BANK, they checked the number for me and they definitely dont have this number on record as being theirs ever dont believe any statements on here saying its legit always call your bank to verify.
- Mike replies to Steve in Seattle| 5 repliesNOT a scam. It was PNC Bank. 2 Fraudulent charges on my account. NOT a scam!
- Sandra MolnarThis is not a scam. This is PNC bank checking on debit/credit charges that they are suspicious about. If you don't call them back or answer the call they will sometimes put a block on it. I deal with them regularly because I attend festivals and such and when I purchase things there it looks like I am buying things all over the country in one day. They have saved me several times when someone has gotten my number and are using it. Just call them back and tell them if what they are questioning is your purchase. No big deal.

- MammaJo4242Received three calls from this number today, ignored the first two calls, until I found this website. On the third call, they stated the last four numbers of my check card! I followed their instructions until they wanted to confirm my purchase of $130.00 today. Strange, it was just a couple of hours after I made an online purchase at Barnes & Noble for $130.00. PNC is closed now, anyone else having this problem should read the previous post that they want to confirm your last few transactions so they can call your bank and act like they are you! If you are unable to reach PNC, sign on and go to the Customer Service Tab, then the Debit & ATM Card Preference, check edit choices, and remove any accounts associated with that card.
- Mammjo4242Yes, this is a legitimated phone call from PNC Bank as I confirmed that today with their VISA department. Though I have been very satisfied with my experiences with PNC over the years, I disagree with the fact that they are using an automated voice system to confirm possible suspicious account activity at this time. A couple of years ago, when I made an emergency trip to Atlanta, Ga., I received a phone call from a REAL person within 24 hours after making airline, rental car, and motel reservations to ensure I made these transactions.

- cmoney replies to Linda| 2 repliesI just got this call as well. I hung up and called 888 PNCBANK. The 2 people I spoke with didn't recognize the number, but the second connected me with the fraud department. I had made an out of state purchase, and there was a fraud alert raised. This is a legit number, but be safe and call the number on the back of your card. Ask to speak directly with the fraud department, as regular customer service may not have anything flagged on your account.
Be safe people! - PNC CUSTOMERMost certainly is a call from PNC. I was skeptical, and called PNC directly. I was transferred to the security department. They verified a duplicate had been made and my card was used in North Carolina to purchase gas twice.
I live in the mid west, and have not done any travelling.
I am always a skeptic when it comes to personal banking information. Whether it be online or over the phone, I do not wish to speak with an automated system. If you are in doubt, hang up and call your bank directly. In this case, the call was legit, I am thankful the bank contacted me before more damage could be done.
PEOPLE ARE THE WORST. The guy who steals your credit info over the internet or via swipe stations at ATMs and gas pumps, doesn't have the balls to rob you directly in person. These cowards are thieves of the worst kind. We cannot defend ourselves and must rely on banks and merchants to protect us.... I won't count on it. Carry cash. At least I know I can defend myself from a real thief.- Caller: PNC
- MikeI'm unsure as to whether this number is a scam or legit. I had just purchased a game on Steam and 5 minutes later got this automated message. What CONCERNS ME is that after getting through the IVR with this number, the agent on the line asked me right out of the gate for my FULL name and FULL debit card number... which I refused. To the Agent's credit, she advised me to call the number on the back of my card to ensure I was speaking with PNC. So... if this indeed is the PNC Security/Fraud Department... why would they ask for my FULL NAME and FULL CARD NUMBER... this is RED FLAG number ONE for stealing info! Why not a 3 step verification process using things besides the FULL NUMBER. Or a Text/Email Code sent to the customer to verify their identity before speaking about the account. Really SILLY policy in my opinion if that's this was PNC.
- Caller: PNC (maybe)
- KelseyI received a call from this number last week. They only asked to verify that my phone number and last 4 of my debit card were correct. No SSN or any other personal info. Once I got thru to the rep, he asked me about the transactions that triggered the card and a few others in my history to see how long my account had been compromised. He told me my card would be shut off, effective immediately, and a new one would be sent to me. After seeing all of these other posts, I called 1-888-PNC-Bank and the fraud department rep was able to verify that someone did steal my number and I was contacted by their fraud people and my card was in fact cancelled with a new one on the way. I would say that you should be able to trust this number if they do not ask you for personal info. If you are still concerned however, tell them you would like to call the bank directly to verify your account has been hacked and then call or visit your branch or use the 888 number on the back of your card.
- Caller: PNC Bank
- Kelsey replies to whoamiI just called my the 888 number for PNC and they told me my call was a legitimate one. I think that there is a scam involved with people copying the phone number and claiming to be PNC but the number does belong to them. The woman I spoke to confirmed that my card was shut off the day I got the call saying there was fraudulent activity (because there was) and my new one is on its way to me.
- Ghost RiderNot a scam, just got to las vegas and used for rental car, food, gas, and called to confirm the charges.
- Caller: PNC BANK
- BrittanyIt's legit. I called the number on the back of my card though and asked for fraud security. In fact, they do ask for your ss# through customer service too, which is creepy, but legit.
