Caller said he was from Dish but needed to upgrade and needed more personal information, c card, pin# etc. Suspected a scam, called Dish headquarters and verified it was.

Caller ID showed a Dish Network number, but the foreign scammer said she was from Spectrum and needed to check my cable box.  She had me turn on my tv so she could check it.  She said my hardware was fine but the software need to be up dated.    This confirmed my scam suspicion since I don't have a cable box.

Received a call today, the caller id said Dish Network but i don't think it was actually someone from Dish. I could hear someone else talking in the background and the guy on the line would cut out after speaking, like he was muting the call while waiting for my responses. He said that Dish was upgrading receivers and asked how many TV's we had. I said one and he asked if i was using it, I said no. He asked if i paid the bill or if my husband did and i said he did. He said he would need the receiver id to see if we qualified for an upgrade. I went upstairs to the tv and pressed the button on the remote that he said would bring up the info. I felt suspicious of giving him the receiver id even though i wasn't even sure what he could do with the info. I was wondering why he didn't want to talk to the account owner, who was not me, and didn't ask for anyone by name when beginning the call. He also didn't ask for any account info to confirm who he was speaking to so it felt like a scam. I put him on mute to talk to my partner about it all then the guy eventually hung up and didn't call back.
