The IRS data base of listed 501 C charities does not a listing for this supposed charity... indicates a donation is no tax deductible.. most likely it's a fraud.. probably subcontracting to a telemarketing company to solicit.  Several such schemes have been found.. all with "cancer" in organization name. One so called "Breast cancer Support Fund"  was traced to a Cayman island bogus charity organization.  The best source to verify legitimacy is IRS database.. which allows search of all registered charities under 501 (C) which are ones that can accept tax deductible contributions.  I suspect the "ACF" is not legit on any level as they pose as a NY registered Charity.. yet do not appear in IRS database searched.  America... what a scam we live in.  As there is little can be done.. even if you report receiving solicitations in mail to USPS, they do nothing.'

Best advice:  change home telephone service to include solicitation call blocking.

Cancer Fund of America Support Services
    BBB Wise Giving Alliance Comment

Despite written BBB Wise Giving Alliance requests in the past year, this organization either has not responded to Alliance requests for information or has declined to be evaluated in relation to the Alliance’s Standards for Charity Accountability. While participation in the Alliance’s charity review efforts is voluntary, the Alliance believes that failure to participate may demonstrate a lack of commitment to transparency. Without the requested information, the Alliance cannot determine if this charity adheres to the Standards for Charity Accountability. A charity's willing disclosure of information beyond that typically included in its financial statements and government filings is, in the Alliance's view, an expression of openness that strengthens public trust in the charitable sector.

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance reports on national charities and determines if they meet 20 voluntary standards on matters such as charity finances, appeals, and governance. The Alliance does not evaluate the worthiness of the charitable program.

These home intruders call around dinner time at night. Phone carriers should be fined for aiding and abetting scamming operations. The CEO and his family should get a real job. They are trying to destroy the peace and quiet of family time for hard working Americans. Do No Call Registry is useless.

Just got a call from them this morning.  Didn't pick up and no message was left.  Interesting to read that others said it was for cancer research because I just got a call from another number (866-825-2728) claiming to raise funds for cancer patients.

They said they were calling to get a pledge for cancer patients. I asked how they had my number. They replied thru a national calling list. -I am on the do not call list.-  I told them: 1) no $$ from me; the cancer patient should go to Mexico/Europe where cancer is cured and 2) take me off the list.

The problem with all these good strategies is that keeping up with them is a full-time job and costs money in fees which do add up.

So sick of these calls from 800-390-4812.  I've been receiving these calls for several months.  You hurry to the phone, say hello, then they hang up or if you don't answer they don't leave a message.  This doesn't seem to be like a good way to get donations.  I just called them back and left a message,  repeated my number twice and ask them to get my number of their list.  My guess is this won't take care of it.

Most phone solicitations for charity are by professional telemarketers, and they often keep about 50% of the donations, and many of the charities that show up on this list only spend 50% or less on "program services". So if you are happy with about $5 out of $20 actually going to the "need", then feel free to donate to these folks.
Personally, I don't answer the phone unless the calling line ID shows someone to whom *I* wish to speak. I get two or three calls a day from one 800 service or another, they never leave a message, so I don't worry about it.
If you choose to talk to these people, get the actual full name of the charity, and look them up on Charity Navigator (www.charitynavigator.org) or the Washington Secretary of State's website (www.sos.wa.gov/charities). See how much of your money would actually go the to stated goals.

I am so sick of this number calling my house. I take care of my parents, they are immigrants who dont speak english very well. The woman at first kept asking for them and would not tell me who she was or why she was calling. The second time she called I interrupted her and told her my parents dont speak English so I will take the call for them. She explained she was a charity organization for cancer bla bla bla. I told her we will not be donating this year even though she claimed adamantly that my parents had donated previously. Its interesting that she would say that because I am the family member who handles donations for charities that we give to from our family business. I know each organization name by heart and deal directly with specific people each year. When I told her we wont be donating she got nasty with me. She keeps calling and its the same rude woman. Tonight she called and said "OK YOU DONT HAVE TO BE SO RUDE!" My gosh, these people are insane.

This # has called 5+ times/day. Answered around noon and it was dead air so I hung up.  Answered tonight and asked for  "Mr S (our last name". I asked which Mr. S since our son is here. They said "G"--seriously, no name, just the first initial of my husband's  first name. When I asked who was calling she replied, "one of his charities.". Since we never donate to anybody on the phone I just said he wasn't here. Between these and other bozos (like Share Group, who go on calling jags) it's frustrating. And don't get me started on the collection agencies that call asking for other people!

I found the following info on the Privacy Rights official website:

    http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs5-tmkt.htm#part9

Privacy tip: If you want to take action against a company that continues to call, send a certified letter, return receipt requested, demanding to be placed on the company's do not call list. Keep a copy of the letter and the return receipt as proof. Also, keep a log of all calls and of your requests for the company's do not call policy.

I personally have a msg on my machine stating the following: 'If you are a telephone solicitor, representing any company, charity, or political orginazition, please hang up now & don't call this # again." Helps to a point. Still do get a few calls. Not as often as previously. Now if I can just get rid of all unsolicited junk snail mail, I'd be happy.

They even have links on how to stop junk Snail Mail from being delivered to you home address.

    http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs4-junk.htm#getofflist

A Tip For Unsoliced Junk Snail Mail: I started putting "Return To Sender" on junk snail mail & "Please remove this name & address from your mailing list". Then putting it out on my mailbox for the mailman to take. If companies want to keep wasting $ on postage sending mail to people who keep returning it unopened, then go ahead. I've got all the time in the world to spend returning their junk if they want to keep wasting theirs sending it. I figure they'll get the msg sooner or later, & if they don't then at least I have the upper hand at keeping them running in circles.
