Got a call at my work (not phone # associated with my credit card) from accented person at this number asking if I'd authorized a Dell purchase on my Discover card.  I said no.   Person kept asking more questions & wanted to confirm my cc #.   I refused to provide any additional info or to confirm or deny any cc numbers.  I told him I'd already said I did not authorize any Dell purchase and that's all the info I was going to provide.   He said he'd cancel the order.  Many phones ringing in background through all this.

I received a call too.  I did not answer.  I also do not own any Dell products.

If they are asking for a credit card number on a purchase you never made, then it sounds like a scam.  If this is really a Dell phone number, it sounds like someone is spoofing the caller ID or hacking into Dell's phone system, because some of the calls, like someone farting or asking for social security numbers, does not sound legit.

This is Dell CS. I had a problem with my computer yesterday and called to fix it. They called me back later in the evening to discuss further. While I don't have a huge problem with the Indian CSRs (though they are difficult to understand, yes), I do have a problem with the hard drive problem that was the issue with my computer - only being 6 months old at that - and a problem with the high pressure to buy warranties. Total crap. I have been resisting Macs for years now and I may just have to make the switch to save my sanity.

Received a call on my house phone from this number claiming to be Dell Tech Support, and after listening to some guy with an accent drone on and on about discounts, he wanted to ask for my Social Security number and mother's maiden name. I simply hung up the phone, as this was NOT legitimate! I did purchase a laptop from them last year, but if they were a legitimate Dell spokesperson, they would not be asking for my Social Security number and mother's maiden name. SCAM.

Dell's tech support called to follow up on a support issue from yesterday.  Just calling to make sure that my computer is still working properly.  It is.  They helped.  No problem.

Does anyone know the reason behind Dell technical support reps ask for social security numbers? It is outrageous. How about the issue "not being able to log on" in a brand new Dell computer? Apparently the solution to this issue is to sign a one year contract with Dell, for a hefty fee, to get a resolution to this simple and basic software problem that is problaby caused by a defect in the Microsoft operating system.

Conclusion: Dell offers inferior products and lousy customer service.

    "perchesd"

Really?  Is this a joke post?

I think you might have correctly spelled 1/4 of the words you attempted.  You might also want to take a course in grammar and punctuation, as you used a total of zero periods (ellipses don't count...) and zero capital letters.

    Sad.

Yes, it does..  They called me back to confirm an order.    I wasn't going to answer it at first because I thought it was a nuisance call.

I own a Dell computer and on 17th Dec 2009 my computer had a virus infection, so I had called Dell On Call (now known as Dell Solution Station) and I paid $239 for 1 year total software support and they remotely accessed my computer and completely removed all the viruses ... later during the year, I had a few other software issues, also once, an internet connectivity issue and Dell Solution Station helped me again, to my total satisfaction.
Yes, most of the time, my call ends up in India, but I get great service and support, even better than what I would get from a North American technician : by the way, I am a North American, myself.
And, this year, on 16th Dec 2010, Dell Solution Station called me up to get my subscription renewed, I am so glad they called me before my subscription expired, because if I renew it before it expires, I pay only $110 for the next 1 year, if I renew it after it expires, then I pay $239 again.
So, I gladly renewed it for $110 for another 1 year, upto 17th Dec 2011 : I am so happt with Dell Solution Station.
Let me inform all of you complaining here : if your computer gets a virus, then it is not Dell's fault : a virus gets into a computer due to the user's carelessness, when online ... period ... and most of the software issues are due to user mistakes or due to 3rd party softwares ... how can Dell be held responsible for these ???
Infact Dell and all other computer manufacturers charge to resolve such 3rd party issues, hence such a charge is indeed justified.
When you call Dell Solution Station, be courteous and polite and calmly explain the issue, be ready to pay for their support and they would resolve the issue. Your other option is to contact a local technician, who would charge you even more and leave your computer messed up.
Well, in my opinion I have never had any bitter experience with Dell Solution Station, and they give me every dime's worth for what is charged.
