If you see this number 801-578-9020 or 800-497-4988 it is a credit card scam.  They might already have your credit card number.  Call your credit card company and check your purchases and freeze or cancel your card.

Pacific Web Works is a middle-man company between freebie and email distrubtion companies. If you submitted your credit card through them for a trial (usually 7 - 14 days) make sure to cancel any trials before it ends.

They will usually charge you $39.99 - $49.99 per month for a product one of their sellers has sold you.

I did not submit my credit card info to them and I did not sign up for any thing and I did not get any thing in return except for a debit on my American Express credit card statement for "general merchandise". They fraudulently charged my card on 1/29/08 for 1.95 and then on 2/12 they debited me 59.90.  So I called American Express and had them remove these items and cancelled my credit card.  Now the 59.90 is still showing on my statement this month.  I'm not sure what to do now.  Is this fraud on the part of Pacific Webworks for making unauthorized charges?  Or is someone else using my account to get this product?  I tried calling the 800 number but they are closed now for the weekend.

when you call they ask you for your name and information, DO NOT give this out, it just gives them more info on you.  Contact your CC company and get them to remove the fees.  These companies are the reason why you have an insured card.

I got a weird charge of 1.95 from EAuction in my checking account. I looked up eauction and found a lot of forums saying that it is a scam. I immediately called my bank. I have to go in and fill out a form to dispute the charge but the bank gave me this number to call the company directly. I called and only gave them my last name. With that they knew my first name. I told them i don't know who they even are why they're charging me. They said that that i ordered a quickbook. I've heard of them but don't really know exactly what they are. I told them that this definately wasn't me. She said shed refund my money and gave me a cancelation number. I was also charged from RSLearning for 2.56 the next day. They might be in cahoots. I'll have to see if anything else happens.

I had this number show up on my account, they charged me 1.95 on 3/27, then within the last two days ago was charged 59.90.  I've also had charges show up for eAuction, Scholastic at Home, and My Funding Consultant - none of which I'm aware of.  The eAuction showed the number that I googled and reached this thread, I'm glad I called my bank now!!

I went to use my CC and was amazed when I was told it was cancelled due to a fraud alert from 800-497-4988.

One day was a $1.95 charge then 2 days later a $9.95 charge.

The woman from my CC fraud dept. explained to me that this is how they start.  First a small amount, sometimes only $1, to see if the card is active, then the amount gets larger and larger.

    Scammed?
No phone call.  Internet surfing I guess.  Charge of $1.95 on my bank card 04/09/08 from EAuction and on 04/11/08 a charge of $149.57 through a paypal account that was set up using my card number and a fraudulent e-mail address ?somebody?@g-mail.  Hope they enjoy the game that was purchased from Denise Cantrell cuz' I sure don't enjoy the charges and having to change my card account.  Just wish I could figure out how they got the info.

I did not submit my card info either, and when I looked at my statement, my Visa had charges from the same 800 number, plus Netflix and Blockbuster, Scholastic at home and a few others. I am now working with the credit card fraud department. What a hassle!!

I didn't get a call from this number either.  But I did get a charge for $1.95 on my credit card fraudulently on April Fool's Day (4/1/08).  I immediately called the credit card people & they closed my account & removed the charge off my account.  I also got more charges on that same credit card on 4/1/08 from other aliases of this same company with different phone numbers attached to them.  Other aliases are as follows:  RSLEARNING 866-441-8416 & something called EAUCTION 8004900.  RSLEARNING tried to hit me for $2.27 & $80.54 (repeatedly in the $80.54 amount).  EAUCTION 8004900 TRIED to hit me for $39.95 repeatedly.

According to the credit card company, this is supposed to be some dealer of children's software (both CD version & direct downloads).  They are in Boulder Colorado although one of the transaction line items on my credit card statement had the abbreviation for Utah on it also.  I got some address that shows them being in some industrial park in a nice building (who knows if that is true)...if they are really there, they must be ripping people off for a long time now to afford the rent on that building.  By the way, the credit card company actually reached someone there & they said that the merchandise had been shipped to my address, that didn't happen.  I never received any merchandise from anywhere or anyone.  Word to the wise, check your credit card statements carefully & report all charges that don't belong to you...even if they are small amounts.  We still have no idea how my card number got ripped off to begin with as I am not a person that uses a credit card hardly at all.

This company definitely needs to be thoroughly investigated by the authorities.  Who knows how many stolen credit card numbers they actually buy every day from the theives.  I'm sure they are making considerable amounts of money on robbing all of us.

I had pretty much the same thing happen, first a charge of $1.95 from PW EAUCTION 800.497.4988, then several $1.00 charges from a variety of unknown companies, then some childrens books from Scholastic show up on my doostep.  Haven't seen the charges for those yet because I cancelled my card immediately after seeing the first few charges.

My experience is similar to several others reported.  I first noticed a charge on my checking account from schoolastic, then blockbuster.  I called both companies and they canceled the accounts and marked them as fraud.  I then called the bank and canceled my debit card.  Then I rechecked my account for any other charges and found the 59.90 for eAuction.  What a scam, it is nerve racking to have people accessing your account.  I did also call the police and file an internet fraud report, the deputy that took the details said he had a similar experience and has now red flagged his account, the bank contacts him with any new charges before they send the money.

I found a charge from this company too for 59.90 they are defintely a scam when I called he tried to say he was the owner of the company they had their lines down on what to say they are experienced at this. They even said what was my cancelation number! before I told them anything! It was from Eauction Tools I went thru my points for the 1.95 charge to get 1000 points and found out later about the charge on my checking acct. I am now going to try and dispute it.

I just realized I've been receiving unauthorized charge from this number to my credit card for several months now. Each charge was for $49.90 although the exact name of the company would change from month to month.

I'm in the same situation.  I didn't receive a phone call, but I've been hit for $49.90 for two months.  The charge is listed from:

    DRI*8004974988eAuction 800-497-4988 MN

DRI is like a low-budget Pay-Pal charge card billing company.  DRI is legitimate, since I've bought software from companies using them as a middleman, but the eAuction part isn't.

As far as I know, I've never filled out anything from eAuction, but I've been dealing with a company called Adteractive that sells your name and credit card information to other companies saying you've signed up for a subscription.  I've been signed up for two subscriptions to Scholastic Books (which I never ordered) that was going to cost almost $400, a subscription to the New York Times, and a subscription to Sports Illustrated.  And now this.  Every month, I've been making phone calls to shut down these charges.  I may have to cancel the credit card I've had for 20 years.

An added note.  I found out that a company called Adteractive gets your credit card information and then tells companies you've signed up for various subscriptions.  That's why people have been seeing charges from  Scholastic Books and other legitimate companies mixed in with eAuction.  Adteractive was fined $1 million by the Federal Trade Commission last year for doing this, and now they're doing it again.  I'm going to try contacting them directly, because stopping these charges each month is driving me crazy!

    My poor mother.

She doesn't really know what she is doing when she is buying things off the internet. She bought some businesses cards and was so proud of them, then a day after she bought them, she stared getting this weird charges on her card. First, it was a dollar, no big. Then it was 5. Then it shot up to 50!

I was checking her card... wondering why she wasn't getting any money. They had been charging her for bogus things! One from a company that sells software. My mother doesn't understand these things....
