- Mike-in-MD replies to gregincharlotteWhether or not this caller is a legitimate reseller/bundler for AT&T/Direct TV I cannot say. However, AT&T now owns Direct TV and is pushing their uVerse TV customers towards Direct TV becauaw the profit margin is higher since they no longer have to maintain the cable lines to residences that switch over to Direct TV. If you are interested in checking for new offers that can lower your monthly charges, contact AT&T direct at the number on your bill rather than risk being scammed by unknown callers.
- Susan replies to DaveTHIS IS A SCAM IN THE NTH DEGREE! DO NOT FALL FOR THIS! I too just received this EXACT same so-called "Promotion" ostensibly from DTV. Having recently required in-home service from DTV I initially thought this was perhaps a follow-up call and so I listened politely paying VERY CLOSE attention to every word that was said. Since my current rate is $160/month knocking it down to $100 for 24 months sounded enticing...... THEREIN LIES THE RUB!
I continued to go along with the caller noting every point of his promotion while knowing but NOT DISCLOSING to him that #1: I make my monthly DTV payments AUTOMATICALLY. They already have my billing information therefore it would never be necessary for me to repeat such private details over the phone.
Upon telling him that I would NEVER give out personal information over the phone he assured me that I would not have to disclose any information, ALL I HAD TO DO WAS PURCHASE A $300 AMAZON GIFT CARD AND PHONE THEM BACK GIVING THEM THE INFORMATION FROM THAT CARD!
That is the point when I told him what he could do with his wonderful deal and I hung up the phone.
As the old adage goes: "You can't get something for nothing" and rest assured, if you fall for this scam YOU WILL GET NOTHING IN RETURN except a $300 loss!

As the old adage goes: "You can't get something for nothing" and rest assured, if you fall for this scam YOU WILL GET NOTHING IN RETURN except a $300 loss! - PSI cancelled Direct TV, then got a call from this # Talked me into coming back and lowered my bill. Promised me a $100 VISA card which I never got. I have the person's name. Thinking about calling and complaining and asking where my gift card is. When my contract is up I am cancelling!!!!!
- Caller: Direct TV
- Gina PowersDirect tv said send them $300.00 and my bill would be lowered from 297.00 per month to 59.00 per month.
- Caller: Direct tv
- Norm WCaller ID said the call was from 800-531-5000. The caller was offering a too-good-to-be-true deal if I would pay $320 in advance with an Amazon gift card. The caller had all of my DirecTV account information. Sure looks like a data breach to me.

- CALL THEM BACKGot the same scam today. If you want to annoy them, lead them on and then call them back telling them that you have the gift card. If they ask for your social, make one up, they will tell you it is correct and proceed. Give them a fake Amazon Gift Card number and when they tell you it must be wrong, tell them that the jig is up and that they are going to jail. The guy today wanted to dispute it with me so after I eventually hung up on him, I called him back 3 or 4 more times at the number 888 342 6309 that they tell you to call with the Gift Card number. You get the 'fake' DirecTV recording and then choose option 3 and they act like it is real... I called back a few times choosing other options saying that I wanted HBO or Showtime and the guy [same guy at every option you choose on the automated attendant menu..LOL] told me TO STOP CALLING HIM. I thought that it was nice to finally have a SCAM ARTIST tell ME to stop calling THEM.

- AugieThis is. Scam, the worst part is when you call DTV they don't seem to care or have an attention plan for how someone got your information and acct info from thier company and what they will do about it. It's a joke.

- AnitaJust received a call from the number in question. Was offered the $69.99 special for 24 months plus ALL premium channels for free.
I was advised that in order to take advantage of this deal, I would need to pay 6 months up front that totaled to $350.
(Well that math doesn't pan out)
I advised him that I would have to discuss this with my husband first. He said that I could talk with my husband then call 888-406-4939 Ext 1 and mention the Amazon promotion. I never called the number. Instead, I researched this scam. Glad I did!
Thank you all for the valuable info. Even though some of you may have lost some money, you will definitely reep multiple times over just by sharing your experience.- Caller: DirectTV

- PonygalReceived a call from this number saying my Direct tv receiver needed software updates. Needed $120 now which would be returned in 6 months. Started to fall for this until I called Direct. They had my billing info and everything from Direct. Changed my card and when they kept calling back, told them I reported them as fraud. Online company registered in Belgium with office in LA. Everyone that I heard in the background plus the operators I spoke to all had east Indian or Pakistani accents but good old American names!

- Charlotte GirlI received a call on my cell phone this morning, supposedly from DirecTV, with an offer for Standard Service and all the Premium channels for just $59.95/month. They were working with Amazon to help promote Amazon's "gift" card. In return, Amazon was helping DirecTV customers to get a great deal. The catch? You had to call Amazon to purchase a $300 Amazon gift card, using an authorization number provided by DirecTV. You then use the $300 Amazon gift card to prepay your first 5 months, and you will receive this tremendous offer for 2 years at $59.95/month.
The caller had my home address AND correct DirecTV account number. They provided me with the "direct" phone number to their promotions and billing department (which was 888-765-3109). They also kept pressing me to commit to paying today and wanted the time that I would be calling DirecTV to take advantage of this wonderful offer. I was vague with my answers to keep them talking so I could get as much information as possible. They also tried to tell me the phone number they were calling from was 800-521-5000, but (hello, CALLER ID!) the number was actually 800-531-5000.
Don't fall for this scam!- Caller: "DirecTV"

We read a lot of your notes. Related to AT&T Direct Tv ?! I don't think so. Seems to me AT&T would have legitimate caller ID.
We've been with AT&T for over 35 years. By experience sends with our monthly bills new and alternative phone & TV offerings.
Example : When we converted from U-VERSE to DIRECT TV the offering came to us via our billing invoice.
We went to our closest ATT store - Forney , Texas. The AT&T store set the whole process in action. Went smoothly and we're completely satisfied.
We got a free Samsung 40" TV ( which the installer brought to us when he installed the DISH ) and $ 100.00 gift card that we received by mail 2 weeks later.
800-531-5000 must be an illegitimate (SPOOF) phone number.
Our family does not do business with unknown phone and mail solicitors. CAVEAT EMPTOR ! BUYER BEWARE !
Am passing this site to our attorney.
We wish you all the best. Be careful.- Caller: ?
