I contacted AMEX via chat and they said It was a real number and that they should have left a voicemail.

    ADVISORY

    Readers:
    Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!

    https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/spoofing-and-caller-id

Read the above again, for understanding!

    Be Safe, Not Sorry!

YOU SHOULD CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Yes, definitely American Express.  They called me to work out an arrangement to catch up on a past due bill.  They were very nice and helpful with options that worked for my situation.  👍🏼

Got a call from this number saying it was about my AmEx Platinum Card (I don't have one - never did). They wanted my SSN or DOB before they would confirm any information. I hung up and called American Express to confirm that not only do I still not have an account with them (thankfully) but that this number is not affiliated with AmEx.

This number kept calling my work cell 2x/day. I do not mix business and personal. Probably is a scam. Blocked!

Well not sure what to make of it ... 800-592-1160 is the number left in a voice mail to call back.  I checkded caller id ... they called from 800-266-7073.  After looking up 800 notes entries on that number you might want to go view that too.  This is most likely a scam.  https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-266-7073

They say their American Express, they should get Americans to call so you can instant them. They should call the number on your application and not hunt for your land line to call. It gets annoying when you can’t talk to someone that you can’t understand them.

I called the number on my card and they verified that it was their credit market department, which they transferred me to.  When the call transferred, I got a message that my account was in good standing and I could hang up now.

I have received two calls in two days. The first caller ID as American Express with phone 1-623-492-8037, the second caller ID was Toll Free Call with the number posted here. No voice mail in either. I do not have American Express, never had and never will. Smells like a scam.

I've gotten several calls from this and other # saying that it's American Express but I don't believe that for a second. Idiots! I don't have and never have had an American Express card. I don't have any credit cards do they think everyone is an idiot like them? Furious!

Despicable,  bad enough calling after business hours,  AMEX now  calling on Sundays, like a second rate collection company.

What are "business hours"?  Legal times for a 3rd party debt collector to call are 8 am to 9 pm your time any day of the week.  Original creditors are not regulated unless by state law, which means that those rules would only apply in your state.

8005921160 Caller ID as Amex. I have never done business with AmX so it can't be any issue with a card. No message left. Have received MANY calls from these jokers. I doubt AmX would risk its reputation and brand image this way, but who knows?
After 15 pages of complaints its time to consider countermeasures.

I just received a call from this number both on my cell phone (which I never give out to anyone but family and friends) and on our landline.  The caller ID said American Express.  We do not even have an American Express card, nor have we ever in the past.  No message was left either time.  Most likely a scam, although I have no clue how they would have gotten both my cell and home landline numbers....

Why, why, why do these people keep calling us?!  We have NEVER done ANY business with American Express EVER and they keep calling us at all hours of the day and evening!  This has been going on for about 2 weeks.  They even called at almost 9 pm last night!  We have never had an American Express credit card or had anything to do with them at all.  These calls need to STOP!!!!

Well, there's your proof it's not American Express. If you've never had a card with them, they wouldn't call you so it's a scammer calling. Just block and ignore their calls.

I just got a call from this number at 8:00 pm!  Who in the heck is calling that late?!  Anyway, No message was left on my answering maching and after reading everyone's comments, I am glad I didn't answer. I have never had and never do plan on getting an American Express card. Don't know why they called me.

If you don't have business with AmEx , why would they call you? Short answer: they wouldn't. The majority of the posts in this thread indicate this is a scam call. Block and ignore the calls.

American Express been calling for over three months. Finally called American Express main office. Said, “Why are they always calling? I don’t have an account with them ( American Express). And take me off their call list.”
He said, “ That number is not affiliated to American Express.”
