- momThis company keeps calling my daughter's new cell phone. She is underage and has been receiving these calls for several months. I have called to ask them to stop. They said they would but didn't. No one in this family has ever had a student loan. They are running up my cell bill and harassing my child. If it continues, I will file a complaint with the FCC.

- bill replies to collector| 1 replyThere is a statute of limitations on student loans made before a certain date. If an 80 yr old parent had a student loan in, say, 1947, they are no longer liable for the loan.
- Bill| 5 repliesIf these companies violate fair debt collection practices acts, (calls to work, after 9 pm, calls to a child, etc., they could be liable for damages. Most lawyers will give a free consultation; call one.
My lawyer successfully sued Van Ru (in Connecticut) and I got a cash settlement from them. I had tried to negotiate a settlement some ten years ago. The collection agent, Mrs. Bailey, demanded terms that I could not possibly honor, called me every name in the book, and refused to consider my counter offer. Those tactics do not work well with me; they never got a dime. I decided that I would let them sue me. I figured a judge would treat me better. They have not sued, to date.
I was thinking I would like to settle this matter, (CTI now has my file) but from what I have read, CTI is no better than Van Ru. It is probably too late to deal directly with Dept of Ed. I should have contacted them before they turned it over to CTI.
Anyone out there have any thoughts on this?- Caller: CTI

- stop calling| 1 replymy man was going to school and he drooped out, he had a loan that was for like 10 or 15 thousand he has not been in school for at lest 17years and to date he owes 60 thousand dollars this is very retarted, how do you go from 10 or 15 to 60thousand dollars how do someone tack on that much, they say they gonna garnish his wages but he has no job and is not gonna get one any time soon, so they need to stop calling if they havent got the money in this long that should tell them something for someone to be that dumb to pay back 6 thousand dollars is just dumb now if they would say the amount that he owed then ok but this isa very outrages, these compaines need to get a grip and stop trying to get thousands more than what people owe, its hard already and they make it even harder. when someone attemps to pay them back they try to f... them over , they gonna be screwed now that obama in office, they need to try and work with people instead of trying to hurt you . the reason why the bill collectors are so hard on people when they call is because they dont make that much money and they make they money off of the collections they get some of them dont make more then 7.50 to 10 a hour so they try there hardest because they can make like 1500 to 8000 aevery 2 weeks, they really need to get a life. good luck to all you people out there that is trying to make it in life and you got shade a.. compaines maken hard for you,

- dear 'friendly' bill collector replies to your friendly bill collector| 2 repliesIf you would like to use foul language, at least learn to spell it. Then, take a look at the post in regard to people who have no student loans in the entire family, for which CTI continues to call an underage girl on her cell phone, and refuses to stop when notified properly of the situation. Then, shut up, and stay shut up. Best regards!
- Tom replies to Bill| 4 repliesI called CTI and offered to start making regular payments of about $150 a month. I'm finally working again and wanted to start catching up on this outstanding loan. I ended up in a big argument with the 'manager' because I was unwilling to give them 3 'references', which is really friends or relatives numbers they can call and harass if they can't get you on the phone. I offered them my mother's number but that I would now let my private financial issues be discovered by friends or other family members.
They refused to take my offer to make regular payments and threatened to garnish my wages instead, which would be a lot less per month than I was offering. What kind of sense does that make. I told them to garnish, and that when they do I will have a lawyer ready to contest it in court because I made a legitmate offer to make regular payments without involving my employer.
These people are nasty and dirty. The people on the phone act like it's their money they're collecting. - HR Director| 1 replyApparently this company is using a new phone number. I received a voice-mail from a Nicole Wilson, who claimed something about federal garnishment orders and also left a file number to reference when I return her call to 877-522-6898. They answer CTI. I did some checking on-line about the company and found you folks. No one has yet to call me back.

Google student loan rehabilitation.
in order to get on that program it is required that you fill out a full and complete finacial statement which includes 3 full and complete references. The collection agency collecting the information can not contact your refercences and tell them you owe a debt . The references will be used only if they can not contact you. If the application is not complete your account will not rehabilitate and you will stay in default .
Also if they do decide to garnish you wages you will not be going court.
All they are required to do is make 5 attempts to reach you after that they can send the order and you wages will be garnished without your permission or going to court
I hope this helps you good luck - KMDI got a call from this phone number and refused to answer it because it did not identify what company it was. I decided to "google" and came upon this website link which was extremely helpful! Keep the comments coming! Thanks!

- KMD| 1 replyI received several calls from 800-620-4284 on my cell phone but I never answer them as there's no identification of what company or person's name. Now - here's something interesting - I NEVER give out my cell number to anyone because I am HEARING IMPAIRED. Where the heck did this company ever got my cell phone number to begin with?? I believe they got it from Sprint whom I have my cell phone coverage with. I wonder if Sprint actually sells people's cell phone number listings to companies like this phone number and possibly violating our privacy?? Some people are correct about "do not call" registry as I did sign up all of our phone numbers with them, yet, where did they get my phone number from? That's something I plan to investigate with a lawyer to talk with Sprint to see if they violated the cell phone users' rights?? Hmmmm... anyone of you have Sprint coverage for your cell phone? If so, take this my interesting perspective being Deaf and never giving out my cell phone number to anyone because how can I communicate with someone if I can't hear?? What a joke... I have my cell phone for email, Internet, text messaging, etc... NEVER for voice calls!!

- tom replies to does not matterYou sound like you work for them... almost a word for word response from what they told me over the phone.
I'm sure it's just like this company to search out message boards like this and try to print misinformation.
The 3 references they want are 3 names of people they will in fact harass if you decide to not answer your phone for whatever reason. They won't tell these people you owe money but your reference will certainly wonder why they're being called on a 'business matter' relating to you and want to know why. One way or another they are forcing you to tell 3 people about what financial situation you might be in. This is a privacy matter, and you should not be forced to divulge anyone's private information that have NOTHING to do with your debt.
I've chosen to have my wages garnished, because I simply don't have 3 people who are close enough to me that I am comfortable explaining my financial difficulties to. - dnicemr Bill colector, if I have no job and no income, how do I pay it?

- Susan| 2 repliesSame as so many others - They call my work number and leave a cryptic message. When I call back and ask them what kind of company they are, they say they can't tell me that till I identify myself. And what kind of person would be dumb enough to give their info to a total stranger who originally contacted them? I do not have an outstanding Student Loan. Never did. I have absolutely no debt. These people are continually calling me and harassing me. I have contacted a family attorney to call them and will keep you posted as to what happens next.
