- KeithDumb enough to call.
Not smart enough to leave message.
Until just recently. Actually stupid enough
to leave a collection related message, with someone elses
information on MY cell phone voice mail.
Which does give my first name only.
Says to call back, at whatever extension.
Will state reason for call, upon a return call.
Need to figure out HOW to make contact, and state their illegal calls.
As well as file the required complaints where necessary.- Caller: CGI
- john anderson replies to Jessica SullivanI am currently being garnisned for student loans for the federal government through this agency and it is indeed legitimate. It can be verified through the student loan locator line from the government. If they are calling you it is probably a good idea to respond. I am a collection agent myself and have been for over seven years and I never actually borrowed the loans I am being garnished for .I ended up losing half my check after a seven year dispute even though there is no proof anywhere that I recieved any funds except for the federal grant money. Any other debt would have been removed from my credit and would have been cancelled but when your dealing with the feds they play by a different set of rules.
- john anderson replies to dear 'friendly' bill collectorIf they continue to call your underage childs cell phone after you have requested no contact you have a valid law suit against them. There are attorneys who make a great living doing nothing but suing collection agencies call one and see if they are interested.
- john anderson replies to jennyThats, not true. Once an account is delinquent and in collections they are not required to accept anything less than balance in full on the account. Any payment arrangement at that point is done just as a courtesy and if the amount is to small they will still garnish you, I know I collect on student loans at a different agency. Consolidation isnt a bad idea but you should try to get a forbearance or deferrement first. If you do consolidate it actually helps your credit as long as you keep up the payments because it will rereport as a current loan.
- john anderson replies to Gunslinger| 7 repliesYou are an abrasive moron, the federal government doesnt have to take you to court to obtain a judgement in order to garnish wages for past due student loans. They automatically get a default judgement because once again the feds play by a different set of rules.
- John Anderson replies to Cheyenne PechacekOf course they do if you are in default, and once again refer to the prior post. Once you've reached collections they do not have to accept anything short of the balance if they dont want to. If you wish to not be called at work you have the right to make that request but expect that they will indeed garnish your checks if you dont work with them.
- John Anderson replies to VernonThis is a direct violation of the FDCPA which prohibits deceptive debt collection practices. Bill collectors are allowed to call relatives for location information only if they do not have a current number and they are prohibited from disclosing to third parties the nature of the call. They can not lie to people in order to obtain that information
- John Anderson replies to andersTypically you would be correct but for Federal student loans there is no statue of limitations and if it remains unpaid the can garnish your ssi when your retire
- fightfraudnowOK. So I've read all posts here and what none of the "debt collectors" have failed to mention is: "What are people who DO NOT OWE supposed to do?" True enough, many people avoid paying their debts on time or even paying at all which is extremely irresponsible; however, here's a question that maybe one of the debt collectors can answer: "When we KNOW that what we are being called/harassed for is NOT our debt and our credit report PROVES it, WHY do we continue to get these ridiculous calls?" Seriously, if a person does NOT owe, that person will NOT pay!!! I am writing this on behalf of all the people who do NOT owe what CTI or any other company alleges; I mean, is CTI capable of fabricating information? Don't you collectors think that an outstanding, overdue, defaulted student loan would show up on an individual's credit report? HERE'S A NOVEL IDEA...IF THE PERSON'S CREDIT REPORT DOES NOT SHOW THIS INFORMATION, HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU PLAN TO GARNISH A PERSON'S WAGES? OR DOES THE GOVERNMENT HAVE THE POWER TO HELP YOU COLLECT DEBTS THAT ARE FABRICATED?

- Fed~UpI received a call form them on my job; asking to speak with my brother. I informed the rep that I was not him and told her that I would not give her any info on myself. I then stated that I was recording the call turn on my phone voice recorder and it went something like this...."Reps (Name ~ Ext. 3138 ~ Reference # ) "I am not the person (Name) that you are looking for and you are not to call my job...." and then the phone went dead she hung up. All you have to do is inform them that they have the wrong person and that they are being recorded and began the recording and they will leave you alone.

- sickofit replies to john anderson| 6 repliesYes they need to take u to court to garnish
- moiraCaller ID said "Collection Tech" The person asked "how to get in touch" with a neighbor. Said they were calling me because we both served as officers of a club (true, but at different times). They must have googled the neighbor and my name came up concurrently. I offered to take the name and number and pass it along rather than give out info on my neighbors. Person calling gave a name and number but did not state business.

- DLHuge scam, just stop calling them back. What a waste.
They told me they were looking into a reference from a friend. Asked me to call them back at 800-620-4284 and left a reference number. I'm obviously not calling them back. - Casw replies to lisa marieIf it is a guaranteed student loan, the collection efforts may never end. You cannot dismiss this debt through bankruptcy. If you cosigned for a student, it is your debt.
- monstermanThey finally identified their company as CTI - definitely a bill collector

- FDCPAman2011 replies to billTHATS NOT RIGHT. when it comes to a federal loan there is no statue of limatations. you would know that collector but it looks like you've only collected on credit cards. federal loans stay with you for life if unpaid. you people make me sick, crying about people calling you about a loan. it doesnt matter if you 18 or 90 years old, if you take a loan out PAY IT BACK. if you gave one of these agencies who sevice loans for the department of ed a chance you might be suprised on what they can do to help you. try going on the department of ed web site, check out the programs and options that are there to help students, its a better option than getting garnished for 15 percent until the loan is paid off, or getting your taxers taking from you every year. thats something mr BILL COLLECTOR DIDNT TELL YOU ABOUT, you cant file bk,and for the last time to the idiots who think federal loans are forgiven over time, THERE NOT!
- fdcpaMAN2011 replies to sickofit| 3 repliesACTUALLY WRONG AGAIN. all they have to do is send you a couple of letters, verify employment, send the federal wage garnishment order to you job, then your job sends you a notice a week or two in advance before you get paid letting you know your about to be garnished, your right about going to court, IF THIS WASNT A FERERAL LOAN YOU YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT, next time do your research before you lie to other people trying to dodge there bills, guess what ?? dont answer the phone, hang up on them, tell them your refusing to pay, see how easy it is you get garnished for 15 percent until your loan is paid off, all this info i got is on the department of ed website, instead of crying about getting calls, PAY YOUR LAONS BACK. WHAT YOU THINK ITS RIGHT TO HAVE THE GOVERNMENT PAY FOR YOUR EDUCATION AND NOT PAY IT BACK? I WISH YOU PEOPLE KNEW HOW MUCH OF OUR NATIONAL DEBT IS CAUSED STUDENT LOANS THAT ARENT REPAID. id work a option out if i was you before they garnish you for 15 percent.
- FDCPAman2011 replies to andersplease tell me your really not that dumb? alot of your posting seems like its comming from a 2 year old. try educating your self about federal loans before you talk about them, try that rookie instead of stating facts that have nothing to do with federal loans.
- trish replies to sickofit| 1 replyThe federal government does not have to take you to court. They send you notice after notice, you know you owe the debt, therefore they get their money back. They also don't have to take little percentages, they will take your entire tax refunds and garnish wages, oh and wait for it....they can put a lien against property and bank accounts. How's that for a kick in the [***]!!??
