The company that has called me several times from 1-800-620-4284 is called Collection Tech. Inc. (CTI) in L.A. CA.
They claim to be a collection agency for the Dept.of Education and are trying to collect student pass due loans.
The person they ask for we do not know and certainly does not live here.
ai have asked them 3 times to not call my number and have filled a complaint with the National DO NOT CALL.

I talked to them about a student loan a few years ago.  It has since been paid off yet they still try to call me about it every couple of months.  I am thinking they are trying to play stupid and still try to collect the debt.  I am just blocking their number from now on. I have proof debt is paid in full to the US Government.

    I hate collection agencies...
I keep getting calls from CTI.  Most of the time they are abusive.  I keep telling them this is my cell phone and I don't know the person they are calling for.  They really have to enjoy harrassing people.  Why would you keep calling the wrong number?  I have no bills in collections and I pay everything on time.  How do I get rewarded?  By being harrassed for someone else's past-due bills.  They suck!  I hope CTI finds a fiery hole to fall down.

    Vindication
My girlfriend received a call from a collection agency. The caller was not looking for her, but one of her friends that has an outstanding debt. My girlfriend is not listed as a reference. This person looked up her friend on facebook, and then decided to call people on her friends list. He called my girlfriend at work. This will prove to be a big mistake, and I will personally see to it that they realize this. If the caller is reading this, yes it's a threat. You crossed the line, I will see to it that you regret it.

    Mad Facebook User
Just got a call from this CTI today at work. They were looking for one of my Facebook friends! They wouldn't say what it was about, just that they looked my friend up on Facebook and saw me as one of her friends with an easy to look up work phone number. I'm super pissed and just updated the privacy settings on my Facebook page. How is this legal?

"Miracle" from CTI left me a cryptic message about a financial situation that was going to affect me and needed my attention.  I called her back, she asked for my SS and DOB, I gave neither.  Asked her to tell me what she had on file, neither was correct.  Asked what this was about, she said garnishment of wages.  Asked what for.  Couldn't tell me.  Told me a letter was going to my manager.  Asked her to tell me again why, when the info she had did not match my SS or DOB, she couldn't answer and told me she would send a note telling my manager she had the wrong person.

    Wrong Number!!!
I received a call from this number today. They are trying to reach someone who used to have this number before me. I know this because I get calls for her all the time. The woman from this collection agency that left me a message was stuttering and was obviously going to say something illegal / confidential before she stopped herself and said something about, "it would be against the law for me to say." When I called back, she pretended it was her "manager" that had called my number (um, hello?! I have YOUR voice on my voicemail!) and asked what number he had called. I told her the number and then she asked for my first name. I did wind up telling it to her (it's not even close to who they were trying to get a hold of). She said she would "remove me" from their "list." They better remove me from their "list" or I will be sending them an invoice for my cell phone minute usage.

    no bailout for the unemployed
I was paying my loan each month for years on an income contingent plan. credit was fair at the time had a new car. I lost my job just as the financial crisis hit the country and have been unable to find employment since. In that time I have had my car repossessed and my student loan fell into default and a coupla credit cards with balances and a bank account negative a coupla hundred bucks.
In that time the federal government gave billions of dollars to fat cat bankers who were the ones that caused me to lose my job in the first place with their greedy schemes.

They want us to pay our bills regardless of what THEY do to the economy. They will not forgive our debts but they will forgive the debt of those companies and banks that stole from all of us as long as they keep getting those kickback campaign donations from them.

The system is rigged to keep sticking it to the working class while the fat cats will always be bailed out if they run into problems.
They will get their damned money whenever I find employment again. I am sure they will take whatever they want.
I have learned from all this that I will no longer worry about the debt I owe. They can harass me all they want and I will scream [***] YOU to them at every turn. It is such a stress reliever to scream [***] YOU at one of those collectors and just hang up.

    Hey CTI Collector..

I would advise you of our rights as US citizens, and we are innocent until proven guilty. Your company thinks everyone is guilty, so maybe you should come on over to my court where I am judge and jury..

There is nothing I would like more than to get you in a court room, but you pansy [***] holes won't do it. Hmmm, you are pretty good at spouting off over the phone, but you won't meet face to face. What afraid of having Discovery filed on you, so we have your home phone number, address, etc. so we can give you some payback of our own. Or are you just scared to face some of the people you provoke over the phone and know you're gonna get your [***] handed to you in the courtroom.

You see, I'm one of those people who will take the assault charge while in the courtroom, so I hope we go to court, so I can take out all the crap you put my family through.

This goes out to all you collectors.. You're going to run across someone like me, who doesn't give a $hit and will hope to go to court, just so the tables will be turned. I have plenty of money, and am not in debt, but you've hassled members of my family and it will stop one way or another.

    Dear Student Loan Debtors:

You need to educate yourself about the laws of student loan collections before making the decision to just avoid the calls and hope it will go away.

Here are a few points you will hear when talking to a contracted company of the Dept of Education regarding your student loans:
Administrative Wage Garnishment provisions provide for the garnishment of your wages, directly from your employer, without going to court and without your permission.
Also, in the event of non-payment, the Department of Education may decide it is necessary to forward your account to the U.S. Department of Justice to file a civil lawsuit against you.
They’ve passed a law to extend indefintely the statute of limitations on defaulted student loans, which essentially means you will owe this forever.
Department of Education can add up to 24% in collection fees of your principal and interest.
And, they’ve implemented a program to sieze all Federal Tax Refunds and may seize State Tax Refunds in the near future as well.

This is not consumer debt, so the leverage collection agencies have for these student loans is ligitimate. BUT ... there are ways you can resolve the account and get some benefits.
Settlements are available where you can do a pay off at a reduced amount if you can do a 1 time lump sum pay off.
Rehabilitation requires you to make an approved payment for 9-10 months, then the account(s) will no longer be in default, cleans up your credit, and the collection and miscellanious fees get waived. You will have to update a complete financial statement 1st ... just like if you apply for a car or personal loan. You have so justify why you can not pay it off in full and that you can support a monthly payment plan. The references are used in the event the collector loses contact with you, these will be people who will know how to get a message to you. Your personal account information can not be disclosed.
Want to go back to school and finish your education? Ask about Title IV (Title Four).

Yes ... I am a collector, and I think it's important for all of you to know true information about student loans instead is nonsense opinions that some people post on these walls. Believe it or not, we are trying to help you resolve your account before the account gets forwarded for garnishment.

The choice is yours ... usually voluntary payments are a lot cheaper than 15% of your wages. If we can't reach you, you leave us no other choice.

    Good luck!

    billspaidinfull replies to CTI Hater
Love it.  Got several calls from these clowns.  What a bunch of maroons.  Thank you CTI Hater.  The president is William H. Leggett.  He can be cordially reached at william.h.leggett@cticollections.com.  Might give them a call and run through the Bart-esque crank calls to the bar.  "Is Mr Hunt there?  Mike is his first name."

BTW - my lucky caller was Liz Wyant.  Bless her shady soul.  Keep up the good work.  That sort of livelihood must look real good on a resume.

    Book'em Dano.

I got a message from a friend (via email) I hadn't spoken to in years. The message was that CTI was calling HIS MOTHER in Connecticut looking for me in California. First, I've never used this friend or his mother as references. I didn't know this friend that well. I called the number 800-620-4284 and all I get is an answering service requesting my number (which I did not give of course). A google search of CTI and this phone number led me to this site and few others similar to this one. What I've deduced is that CTI is some kind of scam because I don't have any student loans. I'm former military... retired... I've never attended college or had any student loans.
