On 7-21-2015 I received a call from 800-624-9896 telling me that DELL had detected a malware on my computer that came from the Internet.  He asked me to let him "guide me through the steps on my computer so that he could remove the malware."    I would NEVER do this for a stranger calling me - he might use the "steps" to actually place malware on my computer.  He did have my correct DELL Service Tag number, which makes me wonder if DELL is allowing this.
   I said I'd had no indication of trouble and to call me back in 30 minutes.   I asked his name and he said "John Wilson" even though he had an Indian accent.   I quickly had my Anti-virus, Anti-malware, etc. program do a complete repeat scan and it came up with no problems at all --- and my building's IT manager said to just ignore the call and don't do it.
   When John Wilson from 800-624-9896 called after the 30 minutes, I told him that my computer did not have any problems .... and he quickly disconnected.
   It's always too risky to give information or computer access to someone on an incoming call.

BEWARE!!!!  Claims to be Dell Tech Support, but they are not.  They are trying to get remote access into your computer - DO NOT FALL FOR IT!!!!  They have been calling me 2-3x's each & every day telling me that they are getting error messages stating that I have been downloading malicious activity & they want to help clear it from my computer.  I advised them that (1) we have not downloaded anything, and (2) I don't have a service contract with them, so why would they be calling me?  Lastly, and more importantly, that I will not allow somone to "call me" and allow them remote access into my computer, and they quickly hung up.

Just repeat saying, "What do you want", a few times and they will disconnect until the next time these Asiatics call.

BTW, don't buy Dell.  Their products are of deminished quality and their support is mainly aimed at selling a service contract or another Dell garbage product.

I purchased a top of their product line for about $2K and am glad I have my good old HP when I need a computer that functions as a computer. The cursor jumps all over the array erasing the work I did.

This group has called me before. Twice now. They call saying they have been made aware of a virus on my computer and claim to be Dell. After logging onto my computer they try to sell me support. It is a total scam. If you let them onto your computer there is a great chance they will inject a trojan horse.

Tell the caller you want to call him right back and he will hang up immediately. Beware ...

They called me, I responded a few times  no response from their end, I hung up.

I get calls from 800-624-9896 every day. They say they are from Dell Tech Support but they can barely speak English and they tell me my computer is at risk. I don't go much further with the call because I know a scam when I hear one. I called Dell Tech Support directly and they told me they are aware of this problem. No one from Dell will call you telling you there is malware on your computer. You have to initiate a call yourself. Do not fall for this scam!

By the way they also had my service tag on my Dell computer. This tells me that my information was compromised at Dell. How else does a scammer get the serial number on your computer?

Also these tech giants are outsourcing there tech support. Then someone in India (or wherever) that handles your call turns around and sells your info to a scammer. Yeah. Companies are saving a boat load by outsourcing and now it's coming around to bite them in the ***. That's the way to go, save money, make profits. Thanks a lot. Next computer won't be a Dell I assure you.

Caller ID was listed 'Dell', so I answered, which I normally do not do.
The Indian voice introduced himself and asked how I was.
Very polite, so far....
Then he proceeds to inform me that my Dell computer is sending out viruses and the company's database has flagged me.
He wants me to go to my computer and help him resolve the issue.
Well, at that point I asked him if he was a scammer and a thief.
"Why no", he says.
I then politely told him that I wished him a long slow painful death, and that his children die in a fiery car crash and are then eaten by a herd of diseased cows.
He hung up on me!

The day after renewing a warranty on my Dell laptop, I got a call from 800-624-9898 saying they have been notified my laptop is infected and wanted to help rid the virus.  They knew my name, my cell, my home number and the service tag of my computer.  I almost gave in, but he was calling on my cell and I never use it.  I told him call on my home number.  An hour later he did!  It's been a week of these calls.  I've emailed everyone in Dell about this.  It's obviously some type of breach within the company.  This is really horrible...

Apparently this number is a real number for dell tech support, however this was a scam telling me there was something wrong with my computer and they could help me fix it. I hung up. Did research and found that people are now able to use legitimate caller id to look like the real company. Kinda like getting a fake id. Dell is not going to call you to fix your computer. If you are having problems they know you will contact them.

My Caller ID stated that this call was from Dell.  Caller stated that Dell had received a notification that my PC was infected with a virus. I stated I had Norton Anti-Virus on my PC and he stated that it was a virus only Dell could detect and that he needed me to access my PC.  I asked him for a number to call him back and he hung up on me.  I called Dell and Dell stated it was a "SCAM"  Do not give out any information or access your PC for them!  THIS NUMBER IS NOT FROM DELL!!!!

Received call from this number 800-624-9896 on Saturday August 22nd and 8:37 am pst.  From prior post it indicates it could by Dell howevever, I have never given them the telephone number in which I received this call.  Truly believe it's a scam since we have also been receiving calls on our other line to "fix our Computer problem."   They did not identify themselves and were extremely rude and threatening.  We told not to call they said they will continue to call as long as they wanted.

Would love for Dell to explain their data breach.... If you are worried your computer has a problem, you should call Dell do not except a "support" call.

This call is a scam attempt to gain remote access to your computer. They will claim there are viruses they need to remove in an attempt to break in to your computer.  DO NOT DO WHAT THEY SAY.

Alex said they were from Dell Support and that they were getting reports that my computer was causing problems. I had other callers like this that wanted to get on my computer so that they could fix my problem. I knew that this was a scam so I told my wife to call the police. The caller hung up.

I received a call yesterday afternoon and I told them to call me back since I wasn't at home. In the meantime, I called Dell Tech Support because I was suspicious. Dell Tech Support told me twice THEY DO NOT CALL CUSTOMERS to report issues with their computer. When this guy called me back, I told him I called Dell & guess what: he was a phoney, to NOT call me again, and I was reporting this. We'll see if he calls back.

This is a scam folks. Essentially what has happened is certain call centers who ask as outsourced tech support have rogue employees who steal the information and operate their scams on the side using proxy numbers and legitimate information. They will then usually delete a bunch of windows files/services to simulate a virus (warnings and such). After that they will try to sell you software to 'fix' it for a lot of money. No company will call you and ask for personal information or access because of these types of scams. This applies to banks, video games, everything.

Received call from Dell at this number.  Called to check if legit and was answered just like Dell.  Was suspicious but had service tag and express service code so I fell for it.  Stupidly gave over control.  Ended up being a sales pitch from Best Computer Nerds trying to sell me services.  Now I don't know if they still have access to my computer.

Received call from 800-624-9896 claiming they are Dell Concierge,  asking me  to respond to a service call request on my PC and giving me a call back number (not the same one) for me to initiate the request.
The thing is, I haven't  recently requested service for my PC.  I did request service about a year ago.  Had a computer virus.  Dell remotely corrected the problem and did an admirable job perhaps saving me from shelving my PC for a new one.
I did receive a call from the fake Dell number several months ago, claiming I had another computer virus and I should contact them to correct.
Yes, it looks like some rogues from Dell are out to make a quick buck.  I'll repeat what has been said already.  Never respond to a request like this period!

 The callers claim to be from Dell, even giving you your registration number and Dell Service Tag number.  They tell you they are receiving signals that something is wrong with your computer.  This is a total scam.  They just want to "fix" your computer and charge an outrageous amount, which will be doubled when you have to take your computer to a legitimate technician and get it truly repaired after they mess it up.  DELL-HOW IS IT THAT THESE PEOPLE HAVE ALL MY COMPUTER IDENTIFICATION DATA AND YOU HAVE NOT YET REPORTED A BREAK IN YOUR SECURITY?  This has gone on way too long.  You owe your clients the truth, AND a means of protecting us.  GIVE ME AN ANSWER PLEASE.  If you out these [***] they will stop calling.  You are too good a company to not be proactive against this scam.
