- jh1| 1 replyFolks this is a LEGIT, REAL number from the Wells Fargo fraud detection center. I can't believe how much misinformation and confusion has been posted here regarding this number. It's an automated call and they only ask for your zip code to verify it's you. The computer will then read the last 3 transactions to you so you can say yes or no that you made those transactions.
I got 2 calls from them in one day just because I got gas at two gas stations within 30 minutes using my check card so it was automatically flagged as suspicious. I don't have a problem with that. Better safe than sorry. Amex is also very good about calling or emailing if something seems suspicious. I guess it's common for thieves to fill up multiple cars with gas using stolen credit or debit cards.
Heads up that the computer reads the pre-authorized amount given by some gas stations. For example Chevron authorized a max of $126 of fill up which is what the computer read as the amount of the actual transaction even though I only put $4/one gallon of gas in to make it home. I wasn't actually overcharged.- Caller: Wells Fargo

- anonymous replies to Brenda| 2 replies"This is a LEGITIMATE call from the WELLS FARGO Fraud Detection Department" is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT! Who cares?
When a stranger human or robot calls you, you must *NEVER*:
1. Give out *ANY* information, even your zip code. Criminals need your card number and zip code to bang gas charges on your card so DON'T give away your zip code. DO NOT give out *ANY* info.
2. Call back the stranger using a number given by the stranger. Might be the bank but it might be a number to a criminal. Call the bank using the number on the back of your card, or from public sources like your local phone book or the bank's website.
ONLY SCAMMER SHILLS WANT VICTIMS TO GIVE AWAY THEIR INFO WHEN SCAMMERS CALL THEM. - anonymous replies to jh1"this is a LEGIT, REAL number from the Wells Fargo fraud detection center" is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT! Who cares?

ONLY SCAMMER SHILLS WANT VICTIMS TO GIVE AWAY THEIR INFO WHEN SCAMMERS CALL THEM. - ForWhatIt'sWorthI've have been receiving collections calls from Wells Fargo for someone who either used to have my phone number or has given it out fraudulantly. It is an attempt at debt collection. I've contacted Wells Fargo numerous times to tell them that the person they are trying to contact is not at this number. Calls stop for a period and then start up again from various Wells Fargo numbers. I'm not sure how it's connected but they are always trying to contact the same person.
- LMAClaimed to be from Wells Fargo Fraud Protection Unit .and left a message to call their "automated" service. Note, no doubt this automated service would be requesting account numbers be punched it.. Anyway, I called the Wells Fargo number that I have and spoke to a banking representative. He verified that the account that was referenced in the call was NOT flagged as having fraudulent charges and said the call sounded like fraud - I gave him the phone number and he said he was going to report it.
- nervousnelly| 1 replyNot a scam. This number did not ask for any personal information. Just wanted to verify transactions. "Yes" or "no" was all I was asked. Went to this site and saw the responses from people saying this was scam so I called 1800TOWELLS. They had record of everything that happened on the other call. So I really have no idea what those people are talking about unless there is someone out there spoofing outgoing calls from this number as this number does belong to WF.

- RichardR| 2 repliesI received a message on my home answer machine 9/2/12 identifying herself as being from WF Fraud Prevention regarding " suspicious activity" on my ATM Check Card. I called the 1- 800-704-0855 as requested The only information requested by the lady I spoke to was my name and ZIP code. She reviewed the suspicious charges made, two of which indeed were fraudulent. She advised me that she was going to cancel my ATM card and have a new one mailed out. The next day I Googled " Wells Fargo 800- 704-9855" and saw the blogs of people claiming this number was fraudlent, a " scam", etc. Now feeling a little discomfort, I called Wells Fargo directly to explain what happened. A very nice lady assisted me, but was unable to access my ATM card account; I had to provide another WF account which I have to allow her to access. Low and behold, she checked and said my ATM card was cancelled and that a new card was going to be mailed to me per notations which she had read. OK, so much for believing the bloggers who talk and spread unsubstantiated misinformation. I particulary wanted to share this with the gentleman who said the number was a scam " because my wife who works at Wells Fargo agrees". Sherlock Holmes quote:
" The eye sees, but doesn't understand". How true.- Caller: Wells Fargo
- 'Tage replies to anonymous| 3 repliesClueless much? OF COURSE this is relevant! People want to know what this number is. That is the entire point of this website. "You couldn't get a clue if you smeared yourself with clue musk and danced the clue mating dance in a field full of [***] clues in the middle of clue mating season."
- 'Tage replies to anonymous| 1 replyYou have spammed this same comment repeatedly throughout this thread. GO AWAY SPAMMER. Quit your shill claims and go away. This IS Wells Fargo fraud prevention. It IS relevant because people want to know what this number is. YES... you should always call the number on the back of your card if you have any suspicions, and you should always be suspicious when someone you don't know calls you. But calling other people shills for saying this is a valid number is just ignorant. Who cares whether it is really Wells Fargo? Everyone who has come to this site to look up this number, clueless anonymous person. Who cares what you have to say? NO ONE. Especially when you spam your spew repeatedly on every page. Now go take a nap. You're getting cranky.
- anonymous replies to 'Tage"OF COURSE this is relevant! People want to know what this number is. That is the entire point of this website", while true, is a false assertion. I never said that people's search for the truth is irrelevant, I only said that whether this number is a WF number is irrelevant; the two are completely different things. You twisted my narrow statement (that 800-704-0855 is WF is irrelevant) into a broad false assertion (that people's search for truth is irrelevant). Having difficulty with logic, are we? And who profits from this illogic? Why, SCAMMERS of course, SCAMMERS who want victims to give away info to or call back on a FAKE WF number.
- anonymous replies to 'TageRe. "spammed this same comment repeatedly throughout this thread. GO AWAY SPAMMER", since defences against fake-WF-calling scams are rather simple (don't give away info to strangers, call WF using number from back of WF card), my anti-scammer posts are necessarily repetitious and copy/paste is the most efficient way of getting the message out. Unlike trolls, spammers and SCAMMERS do spam/shill for $profit -- can you describe how I profit financially from my anti-scammer posts? You can't? Well, then I can't be a spammer now, can I? OTOH, what's in it for YOU to convince victims... oops, I mean visitors to this 800notes webpage, that it is WF calling?

"Who cares what you have to say? NO ONE" is somewhere between unproven and false. Scammer shills definitely find my posts objectionable but I can't speak for others who visit 800notes. You apparently have no difficulty in claiming to speak for the rest of the world in condemning my posts.
Again, it's quite irrelevant whether 800-704-0855 is a legit WF number. Don't give away info to a stranger who calls from a strange number and claim to be WF. If you need to contact WF, use the number from the back of your WF card or go to the legit WF website and look for contact info. These 2 simple security precautions will save you from a world of potential financial hurt. WF does NOT expect its customers to call strange numbers. In fact, banks TELL their customers to use the number on the back of their cards. Only SCAMMERS want victims to call back on weirdo SCAMMER numbers. - mike replies to hypno| 5 repliesthis is wells fargo
- Ken B| 1 replyTotally legit! Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention caught and saved me nearly $3000 worth of fraudulent charges! When you call them back, they do not ask for any account information whatsoever. They need your phone number if not calling back from the number they called, and your zip. They will read your recent transactions back to you, and if you don't recognize some, they will make things right.
Definitely answer or call back this number, it could save you a lot of pain.- Caller: Wells Fargo
- anonymous replies to nervousnelly"as this number does belong to WF" is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT! Who cares? "unless there is someone out there spoofing outgoing calls from this number" is NOT believable because if this a legit WF number, then WF has NO need to spoof their own number, and if it's a SCAMMER number, the SCAMMER will want victims to call him back so spoofing is needless. Spoofing is not believable.
When a stranger human or robot calls you, you must:
1. NEVER give out *ANY* information, even your zip code. Criminals need your card number and zip code to bang gas charges on your card so DON'T give away your zip code. DO NOT give out *ANY* info.
2. NEVER call back the stranger using a number supplied by the stranger. May be the bank but it why be a SCAMMER. DON'T call the strange number -- why take chances when you DON'T have to? Stupid and senseless, isn't it?
3. ALWAYS call the bank using the number on the back of your card, or from public sources like your local phone book or the bank's website.

ONLY SCAMMER SHILLS WANT VICTIMS TO GIVE AWAY THEIR INFO WHEN SCAMMERS CALL THEM. - Jill| 1 replyThis was a call from Wells Fargo telling me someone was trying to use my card at a place they had never seen used my card at. I was trying to use it. I appreciated their call to try to keep my card safe. Even though it was me and I was using it out of state - I feel safe knowing they were that on top of things. All I did was give them my secret question answer - (no personal information - they had all that) and they okay'd the transaction. (They asked the question I had written out) I actually appreciated it. I went into Wells Fargo on Monday - told them what happened - they said that was their fraud department number and I wanted to thank them for keeping me safe. Sometimes we need to say how much we appreciate things and not complain. I am a teacher with not a lot of money - so it was nice knowing my money was secure.

Called Wells Fargo (the toll free number on my statement) and it was verified that this number is bogus. The robocall, the music and the fact that they're asking for information that they should already have is a strong indicator of fraud." - anonymous replies to JillREALLY?
