- anonymous replies to 'TageSo what if this is a legit number for WF? Who cares? It's completely irrelevant. The rule is this -- people must NEVER call a bank number given to them by a stranger but must always call the regular number they use to conduct business with their bank. Problem solved! Potential scammer avoided!
- anonymous replies to Mom2ChaseYour post is senseless. If transactions were declined, how can you "hope that someone steals your card and spends every last penny of your hard earned money!!!"? Transactions were declined!!!
- anonymous replies to JenWhether this number is a scam is irrelevant. No need for worry and hand wringing. People should call the number on the back of their cards. Problem solved! Potential scammer avoided!

- Johnson| 1 replyNot a scam, I made an online purchase over $200, and was called immediately to confirm it was not fraud.

- Jimmy replies to JohnsonI received two calls from this number. I work for Wells Fargo and thought it was fraud. I called the # on the back of my card and someone WAS trying to make a fraudulant purchase. They cancelled my card and are sending a new one. Just call the number on the back of your card to make sure.
- puppetGot a call from this number, 800-704-0855. I do NOT have ANY Wells Fargo accounts... never have, never will. Total SCAM, and not even a very good one. Now it's August 2012, and they still haven't "gone down" yet.... WTF?
- Caller: fraudulent "wells fargo"
- Ron| 1 replyIt is Wells Fargo fraud dept.
I made a bunch of purchases on my debit card and they call to see if it was me. The problem I have with this is that it is my money. They act as if it is theirs. I am fully capable of logging into my acct and checking my balances and if something is amiss, I will call them. They don't need to call me. - cutejnnyIt is Wells Fargo reporting fraudulent activity. My card info got stolen, but I just called the regular WF number and found out what was going on.
- Brenda| 3 repliesThis is a LEGITIMATE call from the WELLS FARGO Fraud Detection Department. A computerized voice will ask for your billing zip code only, then list off your 5 most recent transactions. If the transactions are yours, press 1, if the transactions are not yours, press 2. I received this phone call after having multiple transaction at the spa and at Groupon - outside my characteristic spending patterns.
