Apparently someone tried to call my house using this number.  But the phone never rang AFAIK, even though there was a message left on the answering machine(!); ironically, I had been on the phone earlier in the day with someone in Verizon Executive Services (but for FIOS), who had returned a call I'd left Corporate the day before, with a number to call back; and when I called back today I sort of bitched at the woman about how I wasn't really happy with EITHER company at the moment.  When I looked up the number, the first website that came up was one from about 7 years (!) ago warning people that if they got a call from this number it COULD be a scammer using a spoofed number (oh goodie -- the PHONE COMPANY is being spoofed?).  Now I had accidentally called the number and hung up immediately the other day, meaning to dial the number for FIOS.  But I honestly do NOT remember hearing the phone ring....  :-(  Because for the people who say "Don't answer if you don't recognize the number" -- THIS *IS* VERIZON'S NUMBER.  Doesn't mean it wasn't spoofed, though.  Which is DEFINITELY a problem.... :-(

Got a text message this morning saying they received my written request and to call this number to discuss.  They were posing as Verizon and included a Verizon-like link to click.  I didn't fall for it, texted back "?? I didn't send you any written request!" But i didn't call or open their link.

I am angry because Verizon is obviously not secure (How else did hackers get my phone #?) but worried because so many places (banks, phone, utility) require personal info to use automated services (balance checking, bill payment) or activate new debit/credit cards via phone.  Now I am paranoid that this hacker has access to ALL that info I have ever typed into my phone pad!!!

I was planning to cancel Verizon anyway and buy a landline phone because of Verizon ridiculously high "extra"" overuse charges each month.  This hacking and phony text msg was the last straw.  Now I will have to change ALL my account/cards and order credit reports via snail mail and freeze my account to prevent fraud & ID theft!! Thanks for the headaches, Verizon!!!   But good riddance to iPhones!  Landlines may be "uncool" but at least they are safe and affordable!!

That number, actually belonging to Verizon Wireless, was “spoofed” (i.e., fraudulently utilized) by the gear or software the scammer who rang you employs.

This is Verizon. A family member in another state got a new phone and couldn't activate it. I'm the account owner so they texted me a pin and called me from this number. It's a valid number from Verizon. 02/19/2021

This number called my business claiming I had just called them, after convincing him that I did not he stammered, asked if he called - and spewed a number similar to mine, but not mine.  He then apologized and hung up.

My cell phone rang I answered and the Asian man said he had a disconnect order for my phone.  I told him to get off of my phone and do not call again.  This is a scam to cheat people out of their hard earned money, Verizon should quit selling our phone information.
