- atcnavy34This company is calling my phone at least 6 times a week, which IS illegal! Also, I have sent them a cease and desist letter via certified mail with return receipt, and it was signed for by them on the 31st of August! I have also noticed, just as my attorney has, that they have requested a copy of my credit report which is also AGAINST THE LAW!!!! This was not done once, but 6 TIMES!!!! We have forwarded the calls, times and other information to the FTC and the NY State Attorney General's office, as well as local authorities. We are also going to be filing suit in the County court soon. I am going to show them that not all consumers are ignorant about the laws!!!

- Michelle| 1 replyThese people are crazy and in no way are they professional. They will continue to call over and over again. They will not leave messages EVER, but they will call 15 times in an hour! Here's the best part they are calling asking for someone else and I have told them DO NOT CALL ME ANYMORE, I don't even know the person they are asking for and my number isn't new. They all must be extremely [***] and unable to comprehend the ENGLISH language, bc I continue to receive many calls from them every week. Gosh stop harassing people. Any business that would hire this company to collect their debts they are just wasting more money, bc this company is more like a three ring circus with a bunch of clowns working there not a professional collection agency, if that's even what they are.

- ASFDS Disclaimer replies to MichelleMichelle, do try to tell a live person your phone number instead of throwing a tandrum, that way somebody might actually try to help you.

- AnonymousMonths of robocalls from this company attempting to collect debts from a man I'd never heard of. Each call informed me that if I stayed on the line, I would be identifying myself as this man and accepting responsibility for his debt (how is this even legal?) so I never held on to the call even though I really wanted to learn more about the caller and end their harassment. Finally I called ACS back on their 800 number. I told their employee that they were mistakenly bothering me, he replied, "ok, I'll change it." and abruptly hung up. ACS is awful.

Worcester, Massachusetts (PRWEB) January 26, 2012
A complaint filed in the United States District Court in the Central District of Massachusetts (Case 4:12-cv-40005) by Richard Kent Berger of eLegal, PC, alleges that Associated Credit Services, Inc., UMass Medical Center’s collection agency, violated both Massachusetts and Federal consumer protection laws in connection with collecting a claimed debt owed by Ms. Nina Scott of North Grafton. At the time, Scott was pregnant and she alleges that the stress of the collection calls made by Associated Credit Services harassing telephone calls made her physically ill.
The complaint alleges that, despite Scott’s being on a regular monthly payment plan for medical services rendered, the Associated Credit Services agency ignored her regular monthly payments to the hospital and continued to make upsetting collection calls to Scott. The complaint further alleges that, two days after a particularly upsetting call, she was rushed to the hospital where she went into labor, prematurely.
The plaintiff is asking for an award of statutory damages, actual damages for personal humiliation, mental anguish, emotional distress, treble damages, attorney's fees, interest, and court costs.
Scott is represented by Richard Kent Berger of eLegal in Boston. A jury trial is requested.
The judge assigned to the case is Hon. F. Dennis Saylor IV.

Email - ACS is Pathetic replies to Woman sues ACSHarassing collector calls lead to premature birth
clock February 6, 2012 09:30 by author Mike Garretson
A debt collection agency is being charged with violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act for tactics against a woman that led to the premature birth of her baby, the Telegram & Gazette reports.
[Collector forces birth.]
Nina M. Scott of Grafton, Massachusetts, faced debts from the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center (MMC) and the UMass Memorial Center Group (MCG) for services received.
She had allegedly set up a payment plan with both entities. She promised to pay nearly $1,800 owed to MMC over 23 months at $75 per month, and also entered into a 30-month payment plan with MCG for $25 per month to pay off nearly $800 in debt.
Despite the plans, UMass Memorial still received help from collections from Associated Credit Services of Westboro. The firm allegedly called the pregnant woman 10 times between June 27 and the time her child was born on July 9 - three weeks premature - despite her repeated attempts to explain her payment plan status.
Scott alleges the calls caused her "undue stress" and seeks compensatory and statutory damages, as well as actual damages for personal humiliation, mental anguish, emotional distress and attorney's fees.
