This guy named Jason with a heavy east indian accent called me threatening legal action for a pay day loan that I did not receive.  He threatened to have people come to my door and serve me with papers and take me to court.  He also said I will be charged with bank fraud and check cashing fraud which is a felony and I will go to jail!  Funny thing is, the number that came up on the caller i.d. was a local number, not this 805 number that he left as the number of where to contact him.  When I tried the local number, it was in spanish.....can you say disposable/bought numbers or what!  Don't fall for this payday loan scam from these people who claim to be way more than what they are......

If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):
    1.    The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
    2.    Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.
    3.    File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
    4.    File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov
    5.    File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)

By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:

    Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors
    By Leslie McFadden • Bankrate.com
    Monday, Aug. 3
    Posted 2 p.m.
Bankrate reporter Leslie McFadden contributed this entry.
This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.
The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately.
What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references.
"The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.
Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology.
    The BBB offers these tips:
    •    Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
    •    Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
    •    File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    •    File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you.

received a call from this number, couldn't really understand what "law firm or legal services" he was calling from.  The VM he left claimed to be Ron King...yeah right!   said to call "THE VERY SECOND you receive the call."  He also said things like "DO NOT IGNORE" and "if I don't hear from you all I can do is wish you luck as the situation unfolds on you."  Of course I had to listen to the message about ten times to actually piece together what he was saying.  I called the number back and he said I obtained a PDL from instacash and didn't pay it back.  I have had PDL's but have paid them or am paying them.  But never from an instacash, but he said they are affiliated with over 500 sites.  He asked for my attorney of record and then asked questions like he was taking an affidavit.  He asked questions like are you involved or party to a suit, do you have judgements against you, etc.  He said by 11AM tomorow he would send an investigator to me.  I kept asking where, what address do you have.  I told him to provide me documentation of this loan.  he kept mumbling on about how I would be served and an "investigator" would come see me and my employer would be notified of my bank fraud.  I told him, they were scams and I just kept yelling back at him that I can't understand him and he needs to repeat everything he said.  Eventually, "Ron King" hung up.  Keep in mind, a lot of this I could barely understand because it was so loud and of course he had that THICK indian accent.  Anyway, the troubling part is he did have my work and cell number and last four of my SSN.  Doing a little research, looks like a site I visited was probably hacked and somebody sold names, numbers, etc.
After finding this forum, I just chose to ignore it and wait until 11AM tomorrow, and I'm guessing no "investigator"  will show.

Steve Morris, same thing - if I don't call back, I am wished good luck as the case unfolds against me.  I don't care if they call me, but now they are calling a friend.  I did submit a complaint to the FBI; however, I got a reply back to just register my phone number with the Do Not Call Registry.  Not much help there.

    BBCOACH
Been getting phone calls from this phone number threatening me with arrest. Does anyone know how to get them to stop? They say that it is regarding unpaid payday loan and has all my info but won't tell me a company, and when I call them back they refuse to tell me their company. They have even threatened to drag family members into this supposed loan. They have even refused to tell me who the loan is with.

I enjoy having lengthy conversations with them. At this point, they say they are "Forrest Legal", but can never produce an actual attorney. I've had them hang up on me 3 different times. I'm not sure if it's worked to stop them calling me. I actually keep calling them lol

    scammed in arizona
I received a call from this number today.  The number that came up on my phone was 0000 then they left me a message saying if I or my attorny didn't call back all they can say is good luck.  I did return the call and a lady that I could hardly understand answered and said her name was Christina?  I asked what company she worked for all she kept saying is this is a valid law office, but it had no name??  Then she told me I owed $8,400 for a payday loan I had never taken out.  She the told me that someone would come pick me up at either my house or my job to take me to court on this Tues.  I advised her that I had filed for bankruptcy and she didn't care.  As I was talking to her my phone kept beeping and it was that 0000 number over and over again.  Hopefully, no one falls for their ridiculous scams.

On Sept 2nd 2010 a Jack Anderson called me,from First State Attorney Services, he had a thick accent. I could hardly understand him. He said that he was calling about a payday loan I didn't pay pack from Insta Cash ( who this???). Well the Bill started out at $980.25 but I refused to pay he lowered it to $500.00 how big of him. I wanted a written statement in the mail and he wouldn't do that, I wanted his address and he wouldn't give me that, so I hung up. He called me 22 times threating me that I was to be arrested and he had all my info and did a chriminal back ground check and new all my info there. He wanted me to fax a letter and a copy of my drivers lic and a debit card or credit card number. I ask to talk to the attorny there he said no. He is now calling my son and threating him about me. Where do these people come from? I got no info on them except a phone number and a fax number. These people had all my info down to the last 4 of my social, but I don't think they have my address cause they wanted me to write it down with a copy of my drivers lic. Something has to be done with these people they can't keep doing this to us, he sounded so real at first except for his accent. IF YOU GET A CALL FROM THESE GUY'S HANG UP. As of today the 3rd he has been calling me sence 11am all day. I'm not answering.
