Portfolio Recovery, now since this is the 4th call. I'll just label them as PRA to save my time from typing their full name every time. 192 numbers!? Wow. I have a question.

I read somewhere that if I ignore, and never answer the phone, it means they can sue me? Then I read somewhere else that if I answer, the date of the debt will become new again ( that's if I actually have a debt). Which is true?

Every time these bottom feeders "sell" one of these past-statute, written-off debts to another vermin in the zombie debt industry, it does NOT re-age the debt. The reason they are allowed to continue to harass you is because the Best Congress Money Can Buy wrote up the enabling legislation that way. If it is past statute in your state, what these vermin cannot legally do is take you to court over it. Please get in touch with your state's consumer protection office, usually located inside the office of the Attorney General. If you need help finding them, call your state representative's office. Complain to them. They cannot make the calls stop, but here in Pennsylvania they were able to 1) make the vermin identify themselves in the caller ID, 2) call no more than twice in any one day, and 3) I think they also gave them a limit for total number of calls within a month. In addition, they forced Portfoolio to reply to my letter to them asking for verification of the debt, which Portfoolio had been ignoring. A lawyer named Pearson replied in writing and admitted to me that they cannot verfify the debt. He also stated they had "decided to cease collection efforts", but I don't think Portfoolio knows what those big words mean, because that was 3 1/2 years ago, and this was call #496 since then. Sigh. Maybe one day, I will get tired of writing comment to tell others to ignore them, and send them a cease and desist letter.

Whether or not you answer their pest calls does not determine whether they can sue you. To bring  a suit against you, the vermin at Portfoolio have to 1) be able to verify the debt, which they probably cannot do, and 2) the debt in question must be within the statute of limitations in the state where you live. Maybe in some states, talking to them on the phone and agreeing that you owe this debt may be a trigger for re-aging it, and allowing them to sue you. But, do not pick up just because it only encourages them. Ignore them. Do not confirm any single piece of information, not even your name. These are bottom-feeding pond scum, trying to intimidate you.

Company has called many times a day, many times a week.  Never leaves a message.  I believe I have answered in the past and told them I did not know the person they were looking for (the truth) and requested to be permanently removed from their records.  Calls stop for a while, but then begin again!!!!   Also uses different calling numbers including 731-345-4195.

These are probably spoofed numbers. There are companies that provide that service. You call the company and they forward your call using a different caller ID. That would be a lot cheaper then having to have an exchange that size to handle all the numbers.

Here's the solution - DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE!  Every time you answer the phone from one of these a$$holes, they know they have reached a good working number.....and will continue to call you.  Do not answer or let your machine pick up! After a couple of tries, they will move on to someone else!

They are  a new one for me. Thank you all for posting the FYI's. So far even their robo-callers sound kind of lame. If I happen to get them on the phone one day, I do hope they play nice.  I'll leave them unblocked for a couple more days, just for kicks. If I'm awake and somewhat lucid I like to play them weird farm animal noises and listen to the reaction. Or call them immediately back on a different phone / line - each phone on speaker - and let them talk to each other. I'm terminal (with outrageous medical bills) so I'm just waiting 'em out.

Again, for the ninth time in 11 minutes, at work, when they have been forewarned that my employers don't care for these calls, Portfolio Recovery has tried reaching into my wallet that only has moths. PRA, Be forewarned that we have gone to the state attorney general's office in Austin for retribution.

Thanks to Cornholio for the following; I have reposted these for those who have missed them so that you can program, then block them in your phones:

Just an update-- Portfoolio called from this particular number on Monday morning  -- it was call #515  !!!! since their barrister Pearson wrote a letter more than 3 1/2 years ago, stating that they had "decided to cease collection efforts" on this (unverified) debt. (He admitted in writing that the so-called debt could not be verified.) If these bottom-feeding verminous pond scum were not such pests, they would be entertaining. They have called four more times Monday, Tuesday, and today. Nobody ever answers, nobody ever will, but to this day these cuddly little scum balls believe in their hearts that if they just keep trying, one day we will pick up the phone and agree to send them a generous check for their recovery facility.

Daily reminder: do not answer, do not converse with them, do not provide even one nugget of information, not even your name. If you want to limit the number of calls per day, and to see them identify themselves in the caller ID, then complain to your state's consumer protection division in the attorney general's office. They can't make the calls stop, but they can direct the vermin to follow the rules. This will keep them from being too intrusive, and will not cost you a cent, or much of your time. Works real well if you have caller ID.
