The best solution to permanently blocking these calls is a Panasonic KX-TGE233 (or similar) digital cordless phone system. The phone not only blocks 250 individual numbers (without ringing your phone), but will also block a range of numbers such as phone number prefixes or specific area codes. The best part is that blocked calls emit no sound to the caller and the call auto-disconnects. If you have AT&T U-verse or Comcast the rejected calls are logged in your caller log so you can monitor who tried to call and get satisfaction from knowing they know their obnoxious attempts at harrassment aren't working and you're not even being disturbed.

Actually a call blocking device can block up to 1500 numbers. Some models also block area codes, private name & number, and unknown name & number.  And they cost around 40.00. They are small and do not take up much room at all.

If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

Another debt collector who gets hold of your credit report WITHOUT your consent and searches through it for any old debts still outstanding even though the statute of limitations has long past and then tries to collect on them which means simply PURE PROFIT for them.  LV&V is the same way as these guys, Portfolio Recovery,.and you would think the law would get after them, but it doesn't matter to them as long as they can make money.

Just don't answer the phone, especially if you haven't gotten a letter from them about the debt, which LEGALLY they must do, and dig up all records of the debt if you have them.  If they call a lawyer into it, send the gumshoe COPIES of what you have to prove the debt is beyond the statute of limitations and tell him/her to take a long walk off a short pier!!!!!

Got the phone call today and had the answering machine pick up.  Caller ID said it was from Portfolio Recovery but these days you can't believe anything caller ID tells you as the scammers have ways around it.  Only solution is if the phone number isn't one you know, don't pick up!!!!

Thank God! I thought Portfoolio  had forgotten me -- this was the first I heard from them in twelve days!  Maybe after calling since April of 20o9, maybe thousands of calls, not a single one ever answered, they could be giving up? Ah, not Portfoolio. This is call # 607  !!!! since their lawyer was forced by the Attorney General office in my state to write me a letter, stating in black and white that they had "decided to cease collection efforts" on this "account."  This account is a totally unverified line off a print-out for some bank I never heard of, that was written off in 2001. I guess they got their butts out of joint when the scheme to stick us with a bogus 1099-C did not pan out and they heard about it from the IRS and the Attorney General and the Postal Service, to whom I had complained about their using the mails to defraud by sending a bogus document to the IRS. Poor dear bottom -feeding scum bags, Portfoolio, get a life.

    To whom it may concern,

I have been receiving calls from 'Portfoliorecovery' on a regular basis. But, on 12/14/2014 I did receive three (3) calls at the times presented here: @ 9:45pm, @ 1:41pm, and @ 5:35pm. I also looked up the times and dates based on these calls and transcribed this information over from my Caller ID. Just for some clarification.

It is also known that up to three (3) calls in one day from the same agency may constitute a level of harassment?

    Thanks.

If they keep calling repeatedly, even if not on the same day, I'd call it harassment. My only question is if you have told them to stop calling you

Omg. Talk to an attorney that deals with debt collectors. You can sue and receive $1000 per instance. Hopefully you still have that letter and proof they're still calling you. Read up on the fdcpa laws.

This one was at least polite and recognized that he had a wrong number.
Also, for once, the caller ID for this company did not show an incorrect value.

Actually, you can be sued for old debts, even if it's past the date when they can collect on them. The important thing to do is to show up in court and inform the Judge that the debts exceed the statute of limitations. The court will dismiss the lawsuit. If you don't defend yourself, the court will make a judgement against you. Make certain you show up if a junk debt collector actually takes the debt to court.

What did you say to convince them that they had a wrong number?.  Don't they ask for your socsec number and even bank information when they call?  I get calls every day,  after seeing reports all over the web about them I don't trust myself to try and talk to them.

They asked for a person.  When I notified them that the person doesn't work here (since he called the office) and that he had called a business, he apologized and hung up.

But that didn't fix the issue with them since I got a call from them just a few minutes ago.

They will just not stop - once they have a phone No. looks like will keep calling until what?  You give them all the money they want?  I have no debts known to me that a collection agency would be after.  Must be someone else but have my phone number - If they will not believe I am the person they look for and just keep on calling...How to stop it unless you involve a lawyer?

Has anyone used a Lawyer for help to stop them?  Is there Anyone out there been called for months and then got a summons or legal action?  What did you do then?  They just continue to call all hours & Sundays  -  no letters in the mail,  just daily phone calls - don't understand that, incredible..  I don't trust myself to engage them on the phone (they will not believe me anyway) and guess I need name of a Lawyer who knows about them to engage them and end this nightmare.
Anyone have ideas to help.  God bless you for any help.
