This is the Bank of America fraud department.  It is legit because I was dealing with an issue over the past 24 hours regarding my BoA card.

This is a scam number. Why are you trying to validate it?
A scam email came in while I was actually on the phone with B of A.
Agent said it's not a valid B of A phone number.

Scam! I called B of A directly, spoke with fraud Dept, they didn't recognize that number. Encouraged me to call the number on my card if you are concerned about fraud.

I spoke to my credit card company (Bank of America) earlier in the day about some travel expenses that they thought were suspicious (the charge wouldn't go through with my travel agent) and confirmed that the charges were legit.  Then around 3 hours later my husband got a call at our home phone from this number claiming to alert me about possible fraud on my card.  He didn't tell them anything but called me immediately.  I called the customer service number on my credit card and they would not verify if this 844 number is legit or not.  So beware anyway and call your credit card company directly if you get such a call, just to be safe.

Received a message from this number about one of my accounts. My Robo caller app said it was a scam call. The caller did not say they were from Bank of America. So I looked up my account online and found to fraudulent charges for large amounts and my card was on hold. I called the fraud department number on the back of my Bank of America card, and they said that there was a massive data compromised from an agency that affected Bank of America credit cards. He also verified that 844-585-0488 is a Bank of America fraud department number.

SCAM !!!!- BE CAREFUL. Received a call with the above phone number. 844-585-0488. Recorded message said "This is Bank of America credit card fraud department calling for (name) regarding unusual activity on your credit card. A temporary hold has been placed on your card." My husband called the number they left which was 1-844-585-0488. He said the person that answered sounded like a little kid. My husband then hung up and called the number on the back of his Bank of America credit card. The customer service representative he spoke with said they did not call and no one had tried to use his credit card.  The day before I received an email titled "Bank of America." Security Alert: Unusual Credit Card Activity Detected.

A message was left in the company's general mailbox.  Automated message.  They never identified themselves or for who the call is for.  Simply call back at (this number) or if you can call collect if you're calling from another country.  Shady.

Got a call from this number.  A message was left saying it was B of A fraud department and said we should call back at different number.  Message also left an "Incident" code / number.  Subsequently I got into my e-mail program and there was an e-mail from B of A showing the last three transactions on a specific credit card.  The e-mail asked if we recognized the transactions.  So based on the e-mail and the related timing of the voice mail message,  I would say this number is a legitimate B of A number.  That being said, I would still tell everyone to call B of A using the number on the back of the affected credit card.  Why take chances?

I got a call from this number hours after confirming that a declined charge on my BofA Visa card was valid. I had already confirmed the charge via text. I refused to give my card number to the representative, and he told me I'd need to go into a branch. I hung up and called back the number on the back of the card. i talked to a rep who confirmed that the text confirmation had already fixed the watch they had put on my card. I didn't ask him about the validity of the other call/number, but it seems like a TERRIBLE practice to call people and ask for their card number (after the robocall had already confirmed my identity by asking for the last 4 of my ssn). If the bank is calling me, they should transfer my account information to the CSR when they transfer the call to him. If this is a valid call, they are basically conditioning their customers to be victims of fraud (which they will be on the hook for). As a customer, better safe than sorry. When you call the number on the back of the card, interrupt the computer voice and say "representative" and then when they ask what its about, say "fraud" and then explain the details to the live person in the fraud department.

Nope. I just called after receiving a call purporting to be from B of A. It is NOT one of their numbers. There was no issue with any of my accounts.

This is NOT one of of B of A's numbers. There was no record that anyone from the bank had called me and there was no problem with my account. I'd suggest blocking that number

At the time I looked it up I did not know if it was a scam or legit.  I posted to say I think it is a legit number but to suggest one err with caution by using the phone number on the back of the affected credit card.  Please re-read some of the prior posting that say the opposite.

Got this voicemail on my cell saying there was fraudulent activity on my card and to call the 844 number. I called the number on my card, instead, and was told there WAS suspicious in my account. I still have my card in my possession. The charges were from St. Louis and I don’t live anywhere near there. They had put a block on my account and will reissue a new card. They told me it was smart NOT to call the 844 number.
