- Greg K.| 2 repliesI was suspicious, so I didn't pick up when they called my cell. Then they called my work, so I figured that it was someone that I had an issue with. I think it was legitimate. They called about a fraud alert, and my credit card had just automatically blocked a purchase that I was trying to make. They also confirmed a purchase that I made 2 days ago. They didn't ask for any info, and they did know my credit card usage history, and they did straighten out my credit card issue. I vote for 'not a scam'.

- B-Edwards replies to Greg K.Remember: Scammers will spoof the numbers - and even the names - you see in your caller ID. You might have been called by your bank, but that does not mean everyone else go a "good" call.
So giving this number a blanket "It's Legit" is dangerous advice.
The safest route is to take the info you are given, be careful about confirming or giving your personal info (SS#, DOB, etc) thank the caller and then contact your bank or CC company using a the number on the back of your card. This step can save you from a bad case of ID theft. - KyleThis is a legitimate call from Bank of America's fraud department. They knew where I had been making out of state purchases, and were calling to confirm the legitimacy of said purchases.

- karen| 1 replyThis is a legit phone number from Bank of America- confirmed with fraud department from BOA, they even had a record of who was speaking with me and the time. Glad it was legit. You can always call BOA 800-421-2110 to the fraud dept confirm if you spoke with their agent.

- No that gullableThis is a total scam. Anyone on this website saying it is legit is one of the scammers. Only call the number on the back of your card and no other.

- FYIKaren, Kyle, and Greg are all scammers. That 1-800 number listed by akaren is probably fake too. When was the last time you called and a 1-800 and then went on the internet and posted that was legit??? This is a nasty scam! The scammers have your phone number and likely the last 4 digits of your card. Now they are trying to get the rest of the info.

- SamanthaI called BoA myself on Dec.31,2018, because I could not find most recent statement and was afraid it was stolen in mail. BoA told me (before I could ask my question) that I had fraudulent charges on my account (for electronic games), which charges they did take care of. However, a few hours later, same day, I had a call from this number. I did not return call, as I do not know the number. But my Tracfone says I called the number or answered it, which I did not. Am not sure what is going on.

- JordanI did not receive a call from this number, but rather an email asking me to place a call TO it, in regard to BoA having flagged an apparently-suspicious transaction. The Subject: line was "Security Alert: Unusual Credit Card Activity Detected"; From: address onlinebanking@ealerts.bankofamerica.com.
My first thought was of a phishing attempt or other scam, but as it happens I did have a declined transaction on my Bank of America card when I'd tried to use it, for the first time in weeks, at a gas station in the middle of the night (when it was rejected at the pump, I had the attendant inside try to run it, which also failed, so I just used a different card). It was then refused at a store the next day. I know gas stations are popular with crooks testing stolen cards, so this being flagged makes some sense.
Also, the email's headers showed it coming to my server directly from a legitimate BoA IP address (one with matching reverse- and forward-DNS in the bankofamerica.com domain - 68.232.194.3, actually run by an email server provider they subcontract to, but a scammer couldn't create the valid forward (name-to-IP) record without having compromised BoA's DNS servers.)
Although the request appeared legitimate, meaning the enclosed number should have been as well, rather than calling it as instructed I instead signed in to my bankofamerica.com account, where they had a notice displayed about the card being blocked for suspected fraud, and asked me to verify the the suspect transactions. The block was removed after I indicated they were legitimate, without having to do anything over the phone. It's odd, though, that BoA's email didn't mention this as an option.
I'd suggest anyone receiving a similar email try signing in online before calling the number. Go to BoA's site directly by typing its URL or using an existing bookmark - DON'T click on any link in the email, if one's provided!
It's possible scammers are also spoofing calls from this number, though, even if it is a legitimate Bank of America one. This may explain some of the mixed responses here. Many business-type telephone trunk lines meant for use with an office phone system, whether VoIP or ISDN PRI, allow outgoing caller-ID to be set arbitrarily. I can do this myself since I work for a (small) phone company, so I made a spoofed call to myself using this number, to see if its Caller-ID Name would come up as "Bank of America", lending perceived legitimacy to any scammers - but it didn't not, showing only TOLL-FREE CALL. Note that the name display, unlike the number, can't be directly set by a caller. It's instead filled in my looking up the (provided, untrusted) number in centralized databases maintained by the phone companies.- Caller: Bank of America

- DebIt is legitimate for the Bank of America Fraud Dept. I get so many scam calls and text that I called the number on the back of my credit card instead. They are great and caught fraudulent activity.

- BillThey left two messages (at night on my work phone) regarding alleged suspicious activity on my credit card. I do not have a credit card. Furthermore, neither message identified the business. If, as previous posts have commented, this is supposed to be Bank of America, then it is all the more strange as I have never done business with them. You would also think that a legitimate business would at least identify themselves.

- JRShowed up in a text message about fraud on my B of A card. I used the link to call back and open a claim. Despite it sounding a bit sketchy, to the point where I came here to check the number, a second call to the number on the back of my card confirmed that a case had been opened and a claim was underway. So maybe this number goes to a spanish language call center or something?

- Tygerkat replies to WaNot necessarily. Scammers frequently spoof legitimate phone numbers so just because it was B of A for you doesn't mean it is for others.
By the way, why are you even here? You apparently already know who called you. - John C.I received a fraudulent text from supposedly Bank of America about my card may be on hold because of a suspicious charge. The next day I received a call and they left a voice mail will the same information as the text message. I immediately contacted the B. America directly with the number on my card and was told that it was a fraud scam!! DON'T call 844-585-0488 back!!!
