Always call the # on the back of the card- Caller: BofA (fraud #)
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- GS| 1 replyIn case it helps others: I got a text message saying that there were fraudulent charges on my credit card and to call this number. I didn't recognize the charges, which is normal for fraud.. but the surprise was that I ALSO didn't recognize the credit card number! After finding this page I was super suspicious and called the Bank of America main number instead.
I had to talk to 4 different people at Bank of America to straighten it out. Finally they figured out what had happened. A different Bank of America customer had mistakenly added MY phone number to THEIR account, so I was getting a text message about actual fraud on somebody else's account.
After this experience I am personally certain that this is a real BoA number. However, from the other reviews on this page it appears that it ALSO spoofed by spammers for fraud.
And to those who may ask, "why did you look up this phone number if you don't think it's fraud", I explained it above – it did look like fraud initially because they were texting me about another customer's credit card, and it took me an hour on the phone to straighten it out, so I'd like to help others in a similar situation.
The takehome for me is that a text or call from this number MAY be fraud so you have to be careful.. but unfortunately MAY ALSO BE BOA (!) so you can't ignore it, you need to call the number on your card and navigate the phone tree and figure out which.- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Valid
- Tygerkat replies to GSWhy didn't you just call the main BoA in the first place instead of coming here?
- 618 residentReceived a call from 844-585-0488 with a "Siri" type woman's voice stating they were from Bank of America and there had been suspicious activity on my account. The call proceeded to request to confirm my identity and then asked if I was (my first name). I proceeded to hang up at this point and called the number on the back of my credit card. I hit the zero key as soon as I was able, then had to answer a couple robo questions but said "fraud claim" and was shortly connected with a human. They confirmed my information and we confirmed together that no abnormal activity had taken place on my account. This phone number is a scam.

- Not Giving My NAmeReceived a call from this number on 10/1/2021 about possible fraudulent activity and they were cancelling my card and sending a new one. Called the number on back of the card and the fraud rep told me that the card was indeed cancelled and reissued. Rep mentioned he could not confirm the phone number since they had so many.

- SpinKixThis may or may not actually be a BofA fraud department call.
The number was spoofed (fake caller ID) in my case, and was NOT from BofA even though I've had genuine BofA calls from that number in the past.
Bottom line...DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.
Hang up, and call the BofA number on the back of your card to see if there is a security problem.
Alternatively, check your account online. It may show that your account is frozen if there actually is a security problem. - PatriotScam claiming to be Bank of America even has convincing automation and fake link forwarded to fake website

- Me replies to SteveThis is *NOT* a legit call!!! I got a call from this number at 08:34 Eastern. No bank is open that early. Message said something about suspicious charges on my BOA debit card. I don't even have a BOA debit card. Never have done business with BOA. Recommend everyone ignore these calls and block the number.
- Leon BlankJust got a call from this number for not only someone WHO DOES NOT live here, but I dont even have a card with them, nor an account. I highly suspect a scam here, and it looks like it has been making the rounds for a few years now.

- Tygerkat replies to Leon blankWhat this person failed to mention is that even if those numbers are legitimate phone numbers, scammers frequently spoof legitimate phone numbers so calls from them shouldn't be trusted. The best thing to do would be to call the number on the back of your card.
- disgustedThis is NOT a Bank of America number. I verified that. It is a scam.
