I got a call from the mentioned number, but i missed the call. They left no messages, and as previous posters said, i got the "not in service" message when i called back. The curios thing is i got the same thing with a different number (480-964-5512). I got called early in the morning so i also missed that call, and again there was no message and when i tried calling back the number was said to be NIS. I have caller id, so i was able to get both the numbers and the states. The 850 number is florida, and the 480 number is arizona. This is really odd since i cant see how these scammer-would-bes can profit off this. Maybe its some nationwide prank call??

Same thing here. Got the call, offering to reduce rates. I didn't hang up right away, insted I pressed "1" to talk to a rep. On hold for a few minutes. Line quality really, really poor, crackling and hissing. Rep picked up, asked me if I want to lower rates. I demanded to know company name. Reply: "Financial services". Me: "That's not a name. What's the full company name? Please put me through to a supervisor." Disconnected.

I answered my cell phone announcing my name and someone hung up immediately.  I called back and a recording said the number was no longer in service.

Got a call at 8.46am local time on my cell.  Attempting to call back results in the NIS message, then the call ends (maybe they got smarter?).  When I pressed 1 to speak to a "real live operator" it rung about four times then hung up.

I was curious if anyone who has had these mystery calls has posted anything for sale on craigslist?  I posted something for sale on there last week and got a response asking for my address so they could come by to see the item.  I sent a response for them to call me on my cell to set up a time to meet somewhere with only my first name and cell number.  No call and no response for over a week now, then I got a call from this number.  Just wanted to see if there is any correlation.  I'm wondering if this isn't a scam to get information on people to steal identities or some scam along those lines.  I reported the call immediately to the FCC.  I didn't answer the call but then tried calling back to get the NIS message, so I knew there was something fishy.  I typed the number in a google search and found this site.  Keep reporting this to the FCC, something has to be done.

I just got a call from 850-473-1276, SAME SCAM!  When they started talking about calling my credit card company on a conference call to "confirm an account in good standing", I got suspicious.  It was too vague.  Then I googled something about this phone scam and found "http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071211212604AA5VJlm" (Lower Credit Card Interest Rate Phone Scam! Be Aware!?).  This is BAD!

How can we catch these people?

Called my work line. The other person working here didn't pick up. Sounds like a spoofed number if you call back and it says "number is not in service." Caller I.D. showed the name as "MARKETING"

Unknown call on a just-activated I-Wireless phone. Phone was not activated for 3 hours when this call came in. Makes me quite suspicious that I-Wireless' pay-as-you-go phone system has been compromised to these scammers.

This number called my desk #.  DO NOT say the word "YES" in any part of the conversation with these people.  They have pre-recorded statements and will simply insert your "YES" word into the statement they provide In your own voice.  Who knows what damage they can do.

We use IP Telephony here, so I got the lady's name...  Tara C. Seay
Be very aware of these folks.

I've received calls from this company at home and when I ask for a company name or mention the "do not call" registry, they hang up.  Today, I got a call from them at work, and when I pointed this out to the operator (I always hold for the operator--I figure that the more of their time and money I can waste, the better) she got very annoyed with me for even letting her start her spiel.  Then she hung up.

Caller was a recording of a solicitor refinancing credit cards.  I hung up immediately after hearing the first part.  Researched number and found this site about the complaints against this number.
I put a block on this phone number and filed an FCC complaint against it.  Obviously they know they're breaking the law when supplying faulty caller ID information like this.

    Please file accordingly.

    This could explain these calls

    http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2007/02/sms.shtm

They're using "Caller ID Spoofing", where the caller is intentionally giving out false info.  It is a scam.

Robo call to my cell phone.  Like others have reported the caller did not identify a credit card or other item.  Assumed it a scam and disconnected call.

Called the Cell phone, I thought a Phone solicitors were not allowed to randomly call Cell Phones?

My system says the phone number caller is "marketing".  Why is a company allowed to make phone call while providing a fake phone number?

FCC regulations (47 CFR Sec. 64. 1200) prohibit anyone from using an automated dialer or prerecorded or artificial voice (telemarketers routinely use these technologies) to call any number assigned to cell phone service or any service for which the called party is charged for the incoming call (as is often the case with cell phone service). These restrictions do not apply to calls made for an emergency purpose or when the called party has given his prior express consent.
In addition, the regulations bar anyone from making a call to a residential line of any type using an artificial or prerecorded voice with the prior express consent of the called party. These restrictions do not apply to calls:
    1. made for emergency purposes,
    2. made for noncommercial purposes,
    3. made for commercial purposes that do not include an unsolicited advertisement or a telephone solicitation,
    4. made by or on behalf of nonprofit organization, and
    5. made by entity with whom the called party has already established a business relationship.
Finally, telemarketing calls cannot be made to residential lines before 8 a. m. or after 9 p. m.

This company is breaking the rules...
