    Johnathan Stewart with caller id 000-000-0000 from legal caring services called me just about 10 minutes ago, saying he is coming to my house 24 to 48 hours, to be available with two forms of identification or they were going to my job and summons me there. He gave me a 855-393-3793 number to call & left the message on my cell phone.
    This is obviously a scripted message, as it appears with the same details in an earlier post. Is there any agency to report this scam, this has to be stopped! These bottom feeders are feeding on the fact that everybody is so concerned about thier credit nowadays, and will use that to scare people who don't know any better... Give me a break! WHO CALLS YOU TO ALERT YOU THAT THEY ARE COMING TO SUMMON YOU???

    a Jonathan Stewart called me as well to send a summons and it wasn't me they were looking for. They had the wrong number.  They were looking for someone who lived in my last apartment before me and never even had this phone number.  I have never even met her.  They said they will remove my phone number.  Hopefully they will.

    anyone who has received a call in which they were told a process server was coming, or a summons was being issued, or received any threat of arrest or lawsuit should report this to the NYS Attorney General's office by calling 716-853-8404. record all calls/messages where legal.  (NYS does not require consent of 2nd party to do this).  This is NOT a lawfirm, they cannot sue you, arrest you, or send a
    process server to you. (for the record, process servers DO NOT CALL YOU before they come out).

    "I received a threatening voicemail from a male named Jonathan Stewart (never stated my name) stating he was calling from Legal Caring Services and that he has a summons in hand and that he was coming to my work today or tomorrow (within 24-48hrs) and that I must have two forms of identification ready and that my boss/supervisor must be present to sign/witness the summons.  If I wanted to avoid this from happening to call the filing party at  1-855-393-3793 immediately."

    I have no idea who this is or what it is about, No other information was left on my voicemail- just this threatening message.  I decided to not call since they never even mentioned my name.  After a week no one had come to my house or place of employment.  I believe it is a scam and they threaten to disrupt your work in from of your supervisor in an attempt to scare you into calling that number.

    My advice is NOT to call that number.  Basically an illegal tatic which I believe is illegal to visit your work for this type of collection

    Same as everyone else. I agree with someone who posted here that NO ONE EVER GIVES YOU A HEADS UP THAT THEY ARE SERVING A SUMMONS.

    That actually makes it easier for you to avoid them!

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Its a total scare tactic, as an attorney, i laught at the language the use to try and scare people who don't know the law. If you are concerned, check your local clerk of court website as any action has to be filed where in the county you live.

    You are correct...they DO NOT call ahead. The element of surprise is what servers bank on. If you have not received any info concerning this "alleged" debt nor a letter of intent to bring suit against you from the collector, then there is definitely something fishy going on.

    This idiot that calls himself John Stewart just called me right now from a 000-000-0000 phone number.  He left the same message that everyone here is talking about.  One thing that caught my attention though is that he never said my name during the entire message... just kept rambling on about serving me paperwork over the next 24-48 hours.  I can't wait til they call back... I'm gonna have some fun reaming their @$$&$ for trying to harass me.
