again, thank god for google and internet serches! Here's the latest ad he has on craig's list:

    Hello,

You have to know that the 2005 Lexus IS 300 I am selling is 100% working and great looking, no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage. The title is clear. It has 21,885 miles.

As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay's Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and inspect it (for 5 days) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. I am located in Madrid,Spain and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between our country and Spain. One month ago, my wife moved here with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the United States because In order to be able to register this car here, I would have to pay very high import/custom taxes. My final price on it is $ 2920. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. You will receive the car in about 4 days. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.

Thank you and have a nice day,

    Hey,

I will make the deal only to eBay. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 7 days testing period after delivery. During that 7 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (name, address and #) so we can get things started.

Here are the pictures with my car:

Hello, thanks so much for posting this, because it also confirmed to me that it is a scam, I was almost going to send my money to this person.
But I do have a question, although I didn't send any money I did gave them my personal Information. does anybody know if this can be use to scam someone else or some how hurt me?

Below is the e-mail that I got from the person selling the vehicle that I was going to buy.

    Thank God that I didn't.
    scam below.

    Hello,
First of all I would like to thank you for your interest in my truck. This 2001 Toyota Tacoma Crew Doublecab 4x4 SR5 with 128811 miles runs and drives excellent. This truck has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all. I am the first owner of this truck with a clear title free of encumbrances and liens.
I have dropped my price to $2,730 (purchase price), since this is an Urgent Sale! At the moment I'm stationed at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska making final preparations before deploying to Afghanistan. If you're interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your Full Name and Shipping Address to open a case with eBay's Buyer Protection Program and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the truck.  In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

I answered this bum's ad on craigslist. My guy's name was Lt. Frank Lee from the Army and the car was a Honda Accord. He said it was in a warehouse in Salem Oregon. I told him that I lived in Salem and could drive up there to pick up the car. Left him a number to call...the Salem Police Department!

"hey.  the truck looks and sounds like a great deal.  How many miles are on it?  When could I come see it?  Thanks.

    and I got back...

    "From: Kevin Rowland <kvnrowland@gmail.com>

    fees). Have a nice day!"

    So I wrote back...

"Hey Kevin.  I'm still interested.  I would like to see the car before I give out any personal info like my address.  Doesn't make sense to open a case through eBay before I see the car, unless you know something I don't.  What would be the point of that?  I'm just curious.  If it makes sense, I wont have a problem doing it.  Do you have a phone number I could call you at?  Or could you call me?  Cell = XXX-XXX-XXXX or XXX-XXX-XXXX.  Thanks again."

By asking these questions instead of just doing what they ask, you are covering yourself by making the rules on your terms and not the other way around.

Make sure you ask yourself a few questions, and this before buying ANYTHING!!!

    1)  Why would you need to open an eBay Buyer Protection Casde before you bought anything.
    2)  Why would someone ask for your address or full name before you even saw the vehicle?
    3)  If you ask them "When can I come take a look at it?" and you get back anything other that a time and location or a "When is good for you?", what are they trying to hide?
    4)  Even if something is too good to be true, you should NEVER give someone money before meeting the person and inspecting the property.  If you don't agree, I have a bridge for sale.

Protect yourself people!!!  Scammers are everywhere!!!

As for the "If it sounds too good to be true, it is" part, I don't believe that.  Sometimes people want to (or have to) sell things fast to make money to pay for something else or they simply cant afford what they have (i.e. We paid 2/3 of what our house is worth because the people selling it were getting a divorce.  The husband left, and the wife couldn't afford it on her own.)  I went to check out a car today in my neighborhood.  I saw the car.  It looks great.  The price is great.  He is bringing it to his mechanic since it needs an inspection, and will get the car checked out then to make sure he is comfortable selling it to someone while having a clear conscience.  People like this are rare, and so are deals, so keep looking, but remember to protect yourself first!!!

P.S.  Barring me finding an even better deal, I will be buying that truck this week.  :)

    Hello

I've received a letter from eBay that they have sent you the invoice for the car.
Just wanted to be sure, that you received it and if you understood how to make the payment, and how to confirm it.
I have one request for you when you are going to make the payment. Please
inform the Money Gram agent that you are sending the money to a relative or a friend of yours in Athens, Greece cause otherwise when i will receive my payment i have to pay 15% from the amount to the state here. I really appreciate if you can
do this for me. It will help me a lot.

Thank you and look forward to doing business with you.

This is the last email from the guy before he disappeared on me with my money.

    Hello

I have received a notification from eBay that the payment has been sent.

I will email you after the shipping is started.

    Hi!

I got the same email from the "LT" Matthew Horn also but in reference to a 2005 Lexus IS 300. I am a captain in the Army, so I started doing a little investigation into it and found him to be a FRAUD!!!! I also went to ebay to read up on the buyer protection program they offer and I read that if the purchase did not originate through ebay..then it can not be setup through ebay. Additionally, the military does not offer shipping for the reason that he states in his email..just because your wife brought a car overseas and you don't want to pay an import tax! SCAM, SCAM, SCAM! The email address that the scammer is using is ltusarmy42@gmail.com . He is also posing as a CPT Chris booth using the email address US.CAPT.MIL@hotmail.com.

Matthew Horn or whatever the hell his name is robbed me my money, now my son has no car and I have no money.  It was my first time on craigslist and never bought any thing over $125.00 on eBay before.  Did not know what I was doing.  I feel really OBTUSE for over a week now.  My guy was Smith Martin.  His other email address was smith.martin400@gmail.com and now that address changed to brent06ellison@live.com.  Please someone get this man or woman.

I called on a craigslist add and had the following exchange via email. Very similar to the above... I deleted my email address for security reasons.
    ===========================================================================

Right now I`m in a military base, getting ready for Afghanistan. Don't get me wrong but all military personnel are banned to use mobile phones during their services and since I am superior rank this will be unethical. Forget unethical. This is illegal. Since Soldiers and Officers of military units, which are subordinated to U.S. Department of Defense, are banned to use mobile phones during a military service. We`ll have to stick to e-mail for now, as this is the only way, I can communicate. Please understand I can't use a military phone line for my personal or private phone calls.

$100 + $3500 for the boat? Seems to good to be true. Do you have a phone#? I would need to speak with you before I made any transactions.

I'm temporarily stationed in a small U.S. Army Facility located approximately five miles of  NAF. Key West, FL. for the pre-deployment training program. The boat is here with me if you can come to pick it up and pay me in cash will be great. But, If you can't manage to come here I can transport the boat & trailer for you at reasonable cost using a military carrier. The estimated shipping cost to just about anywhere in the US is about $100 (all delivery cost included). To eliminate any concerns, you will have a 10 days inspection period before making any final financial commitment.

The acquisition process will be conducted by eBay's Buyer Protection Program they basically provide a secure platform designed to facilitate the payment transfer between buyer and seller. Please email me back with the following informations and eBay will contact you with simple, easy to follow step by step guidelines.
    - Full Name and Shipping Address (Home Address, City, State, zip/Postal Code)
    - Phone Number: (Home,Mobile,Office) - Info. required by the shipping company, they will call you with delivery/pickup instructions 1 day ahead so you can communicate what time schedule work best for your to receive the vehicle

Thanks, hope to do business with you soon!

    Hello,

This 2003 Bayliner 249 Bow Rider Mercruiser 5.7 EFI 260 HP has been very well maintained since it was new, trailer also in great condition. I am the second owner of the boat, good condition nothing wrong with it, Hull is in excellent condition with no dents or holes. Due to my upcoming deployment, I've reduced the price to $3500 to avoid wasting time with negotiations. The trailer will come along with the boat and is included in sale price.

If you want to conclude this purchase with me in a timely manner, the financial part will be managed by the eBay's Buyer Protection Program, they basically provide a secure and managed environment between buyer and seller. If you're really interested to move forward just e-mail me back with your; Full Name and Shipping Address and eBay will contact you to explain the purchasing procedure.
