I would not rely on advice from someone who can't remember the name of the federal law being violated: Fair Debt Collection Practices Act  ("Reduction"?! Sheeee .... )

The law helps with repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from third party debt collectors by regulating collector behavior and providing you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue at low cost. You don't need a lawyer to hold your hand for most rights the law grants, either.

Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

Reynaldo, these forums are strictly for call recipients to share their findings. They are NOT direct open channels to the phone bank boiler rooms we comment upon. You might want to contact Admin about redacting that email address before you get bombed with a new load of spam.

In any case, you should not be using any electronic means of communicating with a debt collector. Real paper and Certified Mail are your best friends now to help preserve your rights.

Where are you getting these rules about "3 days" and "7 days" of respite? Maybe your past collection employers or your state law told you that, but federal law gives no such guidelines. The FDCPA only permits repeated skip tracing when information gathered in the first contact is thought by the agency to be faulty. Of course, trashy debt collectors always hide behind that assumption when badgering "near-bys".

Meanwhile, the alleged debtor can be called every rotten day until the agency is ordered into silence and/or receives a validation request, best done on Cert Mailed paper as you've said.

You don't need a valid debt or a derogatory trade line on your credit reports to be hassled by debt collectors. They call third parties to alleged debtors all the time for permitted skip tracing purposes, or often pretending it's a trace to annoy and shame an intended target whose location is already known.

To a ''not me'' case I always recommend putting the agency on notice, just as you would under FDCPA protection if you were the target and the debt claim was invalid. Send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with return card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. This will set a legal landmine, as such a notice is ignored at their peril. This can also help pull the agency under the shadow of TCPA, which carries treble damages for ''willful'' violation.

Collection calls to minors are a growing problem as more of them are carrying mobile phones. As a legal guardian you should have no trouble revoking call permission (or suing for noncompliance) on the girl's behalf. See my response to Joanne:

Skip, no one else reading this page can give ''prompt attention to this matter'' on your behalf. Your caller is not going to dutifully study random forum complaints and cannot magically determine which numbers should not be called based on anonymous comments.

You'll have to write to RPM yourself, and I do mean "write" and not "call", to make your demands stick. You'd best work out if the collector wants you or someone else, since your best response will vary.

RPM Collections - Simply have your service provider block these calls, or enhance your blocking abilities profile. It's easy and you can do this on line. I have received numerous calls from RPM out of Bothell, WA and the New England Area Pennsylvania, PA They have called using the following numbers. I don't answer unidentified calls, they go to Voice Mail and then I type the number in Google which brings me to this site. Afterwards I use an outside line to call them back. When I am sure it's RPM I go ahead and block the numbers. Thus far I have blocked RPM Collections from calling my number (6) times 866-212-7408  757-990-8972  757-990-8904  240-210-7111  240-210-7114 and 301-223-0056  RPM uses a robotic calling system. They are paid by their clients according to their completed calls. They are not paid when they can't complete their calls. It is useless trying to have this practice stopped. The only remedy I have found is by blocking their numbers. Perhaps a letter to the F.C.C. and one to the Attorney General in your state is in order?  God Bless and Protect Us One and from companies like Receivables Performance Management

So I've had the same problems with this company they called 5 times a day from several different numbers EVEN after my husband had told them they had the wrong number and I even called them back to tell them I wasnt who they were looking for to take my number off the list. Didn't happen so I finally got fed up with them and told them if they did NOT stop calling me i was reporting them for harassment and the police would get involved and that i kept track of all the times, numbers and dates they had called me so if i saw anyone of those numbers I wouldn't hesitate to turn them in because I unfortuntley have worked for a company in WA just like this one and i know how they work. But they did finally stop calling and its been almost 3 weeks :)
