Allied Publishers Service = hundreds of complaints over the years it has been operating this scam. It works this way: They cold-call into businesses on all sorts of pretexs). You are offered "6 magazine subscriptions FREE; just pay postage which is $26.00. They record you agreeing over the phone. Trouble is, it's $26 a month for, in my case, 36 months! That's $936 for 6 magazine subscriptions!!!! In my case, they DID NOT GET ME RECORDED AGREEING but signed me up anyway and won't cancel the order. I demanded a copy of the recording which they couldn't produce. I demanded they close my account. They have refused. That was four years ago. They will harass me forever now, except I'm filing for bankruptcy anyway and that will end that. But I feel sorry for anyone in their trap. As far as I know, you can't legally quit them. They claim they buy your subscriptions for you when you order and can't return them to the publishers, so you have to pay for them. The real question is however, how they can demand almost $1000 for magazines which should cost under $100. The victims havre to get together and shake-up the New York State Attorney General.

Paul and Suzette Oei say North Star representatives called their house incessantly, trying to collect a debt the Oeis allegedly owed on an Aspire credit card account, though the Oeis said they never owned an Aspire card. Suzette claimed one worker called her at work, accused her of being a liar, and when Suzette asked him to stop calling, called another 23 times. When North Star’s attorney, Paul Carruthers, sued them, they fired back with their own lawsuit, which North Star moved to dismiss for a slew of reasons. It claimed North Star was not an actual debt collector and couldn’t be held responsible for the actions of its attorney, whom it labeled an “independent contractor.” Judge Margaret Morrow rejected these arguments, as well as the Oeis’ assertion that their emotional distress claim was “akin” to a malicious prosecution claim.

Dirty Liers with DIRTY tactics and dont talk to them.

Jeremy Smith of General Revenue called from this 866 number several times in the past few months. It wasnt Northstar, but he didnt identify himself on any of the mean messages he left. He insisted that I call the number back "today", and he had some reference number about some guy Id never heard of. And I think he thought I was somebody else too. So I had my boyfriend call and tell them not to call ever again. Im on the do not call registry so they shouldnt be allowed to call me but they did anyway, and it was for something I dont have anything to do with. How is this kind of harassment legal?

Its not and they are also in violation of FDCPA laws. However, there is a lot of extortion and extortion scamming going on!

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing—
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and

this company has harassed us for over 5 years with varying phone numbers, now calling my husband's cell phone and asking him to call them back.  not saying what creditor but many of our "Old" debts are charge  off from over 10 years ago and they are trying to collect on them. have asked them about three years ago to stop harassing, they called at 8 am this morning leaving the message that it is from a old debt. this people are bottom feeders and our phone numbers and theirs is on the do no call registry. I have instructed my husband not to answer anything that Is not programmed into his phone.  he is on disability and I am a senior and this nonsense has to stop...I guess trying to collect on zombie third party debt.

Excuse me??????   I don't have any debt but yet this losers keep calling.. They are calling for 2 women who don't live here, who never lived her and most likely had our number years before we had it or are illegally using our number.  Both my husband and I have informed them that we are not the people they are looking for but yet they keep calling.. My VM clearly states our name and informs them that if they are no looking for us they are to remove our number from their database, yet they still call!  So please get your facts straight before you open  your mouth!!!!  Not everyone reporting this number owes these people money!

this woman called and harassed us again we had a repo three years ago and guess what the court dismissed this and she wanted documentation yet they already had it...and she knew it was dismissed and they still want to bled blood out of a turn up reporting them to the do not call registry and to the fcc again. this is north star location service, called on a sat am at 8:30 am attempting to extort a third party debt.  already been charge offed.

I keep getting calls from this number on a daily basis,  and then they call restricted one minute later and leave messages to call them.  They have been harrassing my family members on a debt that i do not owe,  this was settled over 13 years ago.  There has to be something to stop this from these accounts re-sold and re-sold to these people.  "they are in violation of section 804(acquisition of location information) and section 805"    we all need to report them to the FTC.gov  and they need to do something about this!!!

And when my bills got behind because I went on disability for my cancer treatments, I went through credit counseling to try to take care of things.  There is one bank that won't "play along".  They still get money each month, but don't think it's enough.  So in the last 2 1/2 weeks Tom Griffith has called my house and cell phone 77 times.  Just because you are lucky enough to work, doesn't mean all others are so well inclined.  And you can't "man up" and put your real name so I can report you to the company.

Northstar are a bunch of thieves...saying they have my name as a co-borrower on a mortgage loan that my husband and I know full well we never had my name on....they are trying to shake a money tree...we asked for proof and they have never sent any...

Report them to your States Attorney General (and theirs as well), the FTC, FCC and CFB..  Send them a cease & desist letter via certified or return receipt us mail.  Follow the steps in what you need to know..
