- Erin replies to butterfly987456If you use your cell phone it is extremly expensive! If you use a landline it is only 2.60 a call. It's a lot cheaper. In my case it's not a scam either.

- blisspointOn Saturday, 4-20-13 at 5:54 PM (CT) I got a call from 713-981-0098 on my cell phone. The caller ID only said, "Houston, TX". I had my boyfriend answer the phone b/c I hate answering calls from numbers unknown to me. He immediately had a puzzled look on his face and explained that I had a call from an inmate at a female correctional institution. He said it was very difficult to understand the recorded message, but believes the inmate's last name was "Washington". I don't live in Texas and I know no one in that state. So I knew this was a mistake or a scam, and told him to hang up which he did. The next day, Sunday, 4-21-13 at 9:25 AM (CT), I got a phone call from "Unavailable". I answered it despite my better judgement. It was a recorded voice which stated, "You have a call from inmate, 'Global Tel Link', located at correctional institution, 'Global Tel Link'". That made no sense to me what so ever, but I continued to listen. The menu options included pressing "1" to stop calls from "this inmate", so I pressed "1". I wish I had done some research on this phone number and company first though. Some people on other sites have said that by pressing any number in their menu, they have continued to get phone calls from this company or correctional institution. It's nearly 2:00 PM, and I haven't gotten any other phone calls related to them. Hopefully I won't get anymore.

- Kat replies to nikkii| 1 replyNikkii that looks like a fake number. On Global Tel-link's website they have the number for setting up an account and contacting them. Things have changed since you guys wrote here, though...the calls are WAY more expensive now. Also, I had $25 on my account a couple years ago, but now I am seeing that they close your account and keep any remaining funds unless you close your account and request a refund within 90 days. TOTAL RIP OFF because you're dammed if you do and dammed if you don't close the account. They charge a fee for closing it it some states, too. The jails get a kickback from the company, too. But that's what our prison system as become...a money making venture, rather than what it used to be...for REFORM and REHABILITATION...now it's just PUNISHMENT and a very lucrative industrial complex. Private companies are guaranteed 95% beds filled when they contract with the government to administer some of the federal prisons in the nation here. Going through the court systems with both of my sons, has been a huge E
EYE opening experience...one that tells me how corrupt the system is and how those who have plenty of money do quite well in the system, while those who don't get screwed. And TAXPAYERS foot the bills and some!!
