Today I received to private calls I answered and it was a message that said an inmate @ Los Angeles County Jail is trying to reach me and to call (866)230-7761 to accept the calls. I only know one person in jail and I used to receive calls from him to my cell wen he was @ Avenal State Prison all of a sudden he stopped calling me and writting to me I wonder can that be him?? Wen u call the number do they tell you who is the person trying to reach you?? or do u have to accept it first??? plz help me wth more info Thanx

Ths nember has called my cell 3 times today, leaving a message on the last. The number came up as "private" so I didn't pick it up. All it said was that it was from a global tell link company which I've never heard of, so I came here trying to figure out what it was and its a scam company. But apparently my friend has this company (without reasearching it) and they probably call all of your contacts trying to scam more people into their service. They really should be investigated, this isn't your typical wrong number or junk mal call.

I received 3 automated phone calls at varying times of day from a scum bag company called "Global Tell Link",  and this companys incoming phone number on my caller ID is listed as "Unavailable".  The automated message states an unknown inmate from "Global Tell Link" wishes to speak to me and the message told me to call this number back ( 1-866-230-7761) to accept the phone charges. Use your head,  DO NOT CALL THEM BACK, I DIDN'T!  The voice message didn't state the inmates name or what Correctional Facility the call was coming from or even what state it was made from.  It's a SCAM, not surprising since it involves some convict or convicts who are most likely looking for some SAP to deposit money into their Commissary accounts and be their pen pals.  I guess 3 hots and a cot and all the cable tv they can watch are not enough for society's misfits/delinquents.  The owners of this company "Global Tell Link", should be locked up in prison with these cons they are placing calls out for.    Also, your phone company may provide you with a way to block "unlisted or unavailable" incoming phone numbers, possibly for a small monthly fee,  Verizon does.  You can also block incoming phone numbers that do show up on your caller ID as well, just in case they make their number visisble to you.  Don't forget to register your phone number with the following government web site, "www.donotcall.gov".  Once your number is registered, telemarketers cannot call you after 31 days after registering.

I've gotten voice mails for Cuyahoga county jail, but how did they get unlisted cell phone number, which is registered as do-not-call?? is this illegal, both obtaining number and cold-calling?

I've only got cell phone (not local) and am on do-not-call registry but that didn't stop them

My cell phone receives calls with a caller ID of 866-847-1251.  It is supposed to be from the Columbus Correctional Center.  For $9.99 I can talk for 20 minutes to an inmate who mumbles his name.  No one I know.  I have not pressed 1 to accept the call.  I called Columbus Correctional Center, and they gave me the phone number of the inmate's phone service 866-230-7761.  I tried to talk to a live operator but the recording said they would call me back.  People reading this website should be careful of 866-847-1251 and Columbus Correctional Center. Our local police department advised us to block these calls.

I have a son in the system I used this Global tel and at first it seemed okay no they charge 1 dollar a minute. Ofcourse I can not afford that so I will wait till he gets out to talk to him. I could my money to better use.

My husband has been locked up for months. I was doing well on Globe Telecom for a while, but recently when I put money on my account it states it's there. I even check my balance and it says it's there. When I hang up and received my husband's calls it says insufficient funds. This has been going on for days. I had 75 on there, got no calls. I checked today it says balance 2 dollars. Still no one is returning my calls and I get no answer. Growing impatient, did anyone else go through this problem? If so, tell me what you did to get help or this resolved...

just received a call this am. I don't know anyone incarcerated at all so I'm pretty sure no one is trying to reach me. It claims Central Time, and wants me to call the number to that the inmate can speak with me.

over three weeks of unknown numbers showing up on my cell phone, finally this morning they leave a message stating that someone is trying to reach me from al county jail. never called back the 866-230-7761. I never answer unknown numbers anyway so F*ck them trying to take my money.

Received a call that left 866 230 7761 as the call back number. Voicemail indicated the call was a collect call from Middletown Police Department. Not sure which middletown this would be as there are a few around the states. I hope it wasn't anyone important because i rejected it. Call came in on my cell phone as a "Forward" from 713-981-0098

I received a call from "unavailable" this morning at 8:11am so I didn't answer.  listened to voicemail and it said someone from Sacramento Main Jail is attemting to contact me and to call back this number. 1-866-230-7761.  I just got scam from the Teethwhitening stuff last week, so I got a litte smarter this time by googling the phone number first. Found so many people w/similar situations.  Definitely another SCAMs out there.  be careful people!

I had them cal me and  they wanted mt CC info up front I declined and the recording told me they would call me 5 times a day everyday until I opened an account. I reported them to the police who told me it was a scam and there was nothing that could be done sence they are most likly not in this country. So i reported it to Fox news and hopefuly they will do a story about it and then people will know it is a scam.

I so glad I looked up this number. On 3.25.10 we received 2 collect calls from our son in a TX  jail on my land line showing up as Global Tele Link. Today my cell phone rang and it was an unknown number but gave the same company name and a call back number Well you could say I was startled at the least. I called the number from my land line and got the same message as everyone else. I then called to make sure my son was okay and then did an internet search of  the number. I thought it was the company wanting billing information for payment.

I've been receiving calls from this "company" telling me an inmate from jail wants to talk to me. Nobody I know is in prison. This is a SCAM. Don't fall for it! Don't give out any information. I'm going to report this to my local news so they can inform the general public about this fraud.

My son is in county jail,He called me today and it prompted me to put in my cc info.I did for $25.00 the first time .it charges you a fee for using it,the fee,one call and what was left after the first call was only $11.25 for remaining calls,We used that up and the next time he tried to call I had to add more money ,that was around 1:00,I added another $50.00,I have not heard back from him yet it's now 5:30,In our case it's not a scam,It is my son tring to call,But they do charge so much for each call,It's crazy !!!

Just heard the recording on my answering service. I don't know anyone in jail.It must be a scam.
