It just happened to me. I can't get Global Telling to come to the phone, only a recording. My credit card was declined, but really charged. What did you do?

I've been receiving a lot of calls on my voicemail from this number.  The automated recording informs me that an inmate from Twin Towers Correctional Facility is trying to contact me and that I should call the above number.  I checked online first and I'm glad I did.  Thank you all for reporting this scam!

I just got a frudulent charge on my CC from GLOBAL TEL LINK 866-230-7761 AL for $50.
I never did business with them.

The number showed up as
866-478-8897 800 Service
but the message was for 866-230-7761 and said an inmate was calling me from Global Tell Link.  Glad I checked here...I will block both numbers

Received calls 2 days now/ one from Sedwich county detention center/ & one from Las Junos correction facility.. both said to get collect call I must pay by card, check etc. . I checked around with family & friend & every one I am in immediate contact with  is fine................. Did not accept any CHARGES......I FIGURE IT IS A SCAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

Hey I recieved a call from Globel Tell as well but i never recieved a call from the numbers that you guys have mentioned the number i recieved it from was 1866-770-4896 and when i called back to set up to my home bill i spoke to a person not any recordings my brother and my husband is in jail and thats the reason for us getting the Global tell i think the best option for everyone recieving these calls are to call the 1866 number and speak to someone there about the issue you are having i also have a second number and it is 1800-231-0193 i hope this helps anyone.

BUT WHAT I DID WAS GOOGLE THE 2ND NUMBER AND CAME HERE...I NEVER GIVE OUT CREDIT CARD/CHECKING ACCOUNT INFORMATION...ESPECIALLY OVER THE PHONE...I FIGURED IT WAS A SCAM BECAUSE MY HUSBAND USES HIS 10 FREE MINUTES TO CALL ME...HE USES THE HOUSE PHONE FOR COLLECT CALLS..WHEN THE COLLECT CALLS ARE USED UP..THEY ARE JUST THAT..USED UP!!! I HAVE TOO MANY BILLS AS IS, I CAN'T AFFORD TO PLAY WITH THESE  DAMN SCAM ARTISTS.. THANK GOD HE HAS 30 DAYS TO GO!! IF HE DID NOT, WE WOULD BE FINE WITH FREE 10 MINUTES HE GETS..THAT US TAX PAYERS ARE PAYING FOR ANYWAY!!

Rcvd call on answering machine indicating they were from the Shelby County jail, and that my brother "tim" was calling collect.  It was his voice on the answering machine.  They must have gotten his voice mail or his cell phone to get his name off of the phone.  They asked us to give a mastercard or visa # so that he could make a call as they wouldn't let him make any more calls on their dime.  I looked up the # and found the scam.

I got a call from this number.  It was from the Orange County (CA) Central Jail Complex.  I live in Texas, and don't know anyone in CA.  I think there is a scam angle to this.  I inherited a car from CA, and had to register it before transferring it to TX.  A scammer gets the DMV information, and now has my phone number and a local "connection", then has a prisoner from a local prison place a call. The initial GTL link is therefore legitimate, and if you gave them your info on the first call you are probably setting up a legitimate account with a real company providing prison communications.  However, most people will not set up an account with GTL on the first call, so the scammer calls you back from an unavailable number posing as GTL to remind you that prisoner is calling, and offers to set up the account at that time.  The follow-up calls are the scam, so do NOT give them your info.  It makes sense to me, and this is probably a multi-prison, multi-state scam which mines information from the DMV public records and uses GTL as a stalking horse.

they also are cutting off on the collect calls from the jail but charging for the FULL amount.  they are doing that now to me.  In addition to the smame BS with the cell phone..  I would not give my cell.  My son told me that he did not call me on the cell.. they did it own their own!

Calls from Montgomery County Jail 866-230-7761.  This number calls twice a day every day.  I do not answer but they always leave a voice mail from Global Link as an Unknown caller.

got a call this morning from Global Tek, stating an inmate was trying to call me.  i assumed my stalker had ended up in prison again and was haunting me from behind the bars.  i'm relieved to see that most likely i got hooked up with a scam-call list.  i don't need this added stress.

CHECK THE NUMBER ON PAGE ONE (800-231-0193).  this is the legit number for the company, and i ran my number through their system-they have no records of attempted calls being made to my phone from an inmate in the last six months.  its sad that some scam is taking advantage of those of us whose lives are affected by incarceration.

Got a call yesterday and another this morning. An automated recording said someone is trying to place a collect call from a Los Angeles County correctional facility. Googled the callback - 866-230-7761 - number and came up with this thread and more. Sounds like whichever of my friends is in jail will have to have their attorney contact me as I would rather not get scammed by this 'company'. Thanks to everyone who reported on this, you have likely saved other people (like me) some money.

I just got a call from husban and i have been reciving the collect calls but now it is telling me i need to set up a accout because the spending limet is over i dont understand this my telephone bill is paid in full so why do i need a account with them? if you can help me please contact me at chickyphoo106@verizon.net thank you so much
